"We chose Wesley Village Retirement Center for my mom. Everyone is very caring, and the place is very nice. She has a nice bedroom. The staff is very nice and very helpful. The memory care side is very clean and it doesn't smell. My mother is eating better than before. She participates in the activities, and they have an activity person that does things with them."

"The Knox County Nursing Home staff interacts well with residents and their families. There are activities and outings for the residents to enjoy. Many visitors frequent the nursing home to provide entertainment for the residents. The facility itself is nicely decorated and the rooms are nicely sized. It also has a large dining area. Knox County Nursing Home is a rather large facility compared to other facilities in the area. It has an incredibly large yard and sits at the edge of town away from traffic in a very peaceful spot.The bad news about this facility is that the staff to resident ratio does not allow much individual time with the residents. This hinders the ability of available staff to provide attentive and proper care to the residents. This may direclty relate to Knox County Nursing home having had multiple deficiencies in 2011. A total of 16 deficiencies ranging from "potential for minimal harm" to "actual harm" were cited. There is one other rather disturbing fact about this nursing home. It happens to sit directly across the street from a cemetary. This may not be the best inspiration to the residents of the facility. "

"My Mom and Dad moved here this year after they both had double pneumonia. They left a home where they had lived for 30 years. My Dad said he felt like he was finally living in his golden years. My mom loves it because she doesn't have to cook, clean and do laundry. The staff from the cleaning ladies to the administrator are the best in the world. They take excellent care of my parents. They have their very own 2 bedroom apt. everything is handicap accessible. I have even been able to stay the night with them. I would highly recommend the Kensington to any and all. "

"I would recommend Heartland of Galesburg to anyone need skilled nursing. I was in real bad shape when I arrived but with the help of the nurses and therapy I am up walking independently, eating, and enjoying life. The care is wonderful here and the staff is very attentive. Of course like most people I have favorites but the staff are truly caring. The therapy was the best I have ever seen. I received therapy services every day and they knew what I needed to be able to do to get back home. They created a plan that was specific to my needs and my capabilities and continued to raise the bar for me to get me to the point I needed for home. "

"The staff is pleasant. The P.T dept. is very good and the meals are good. The problem lies with the fact that they have few workers to take proper care of patients, The administration makes sure they have a very nice and comfy office as all administration's do. The facility is not the same, clean and nice facility that it once was. It seems a bit dirty, that nursing home smell is there. Another issue is that some of the CNA's have no social graces and lack any intelligence. I realize it is a very difficult job but if a person can't handle it don't go into it. Some staff talk down to residents as if they were beneath them or were 2 yr. olds in need of discipline. I want to remind them they are not the resident's mother's and to try to use resect. Surely, someone has taught them. The residents may wait some time to go to the bathroom and they may ask for a simple aspirin and never get it. The rivalry between shifts goes on like immature idiots.Patients in this home and many like it are more likely to experience serious blood-borne infections. and airborne infection since they seem to lack good hygiene skills.Not all but many. They do a lot of covering up for errors as most nursing homes and many hospitals do. I don't actually see too many people getting better. It certainly hasn't happened in the case of my wife. Actually, she was worse. The phrase “respect your elders” is ingrained in most minds at a young age. This phrase, however, has been lost somewhere. A lack of respect for the elderly is especially present in the quality of health care they receive. Despite this issue, the current law mandating a number of necessary workers in nursing homes does little to improve the situation. It states, “The facility must have sufficient nursing staff to provide nursing and related services to attain or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental, and psychological well-being of each resident as determined by resident assessments and individual plans of care” (Miranda, 2005). This statement is very ambiguous and leaves much to the interpretation of the administration of each nursing home, resulting in many situations of insufficient staffing. A severe problem with this task falling in the hands of the administration lies in the fact that “among administrators, very few are certified, and without qualified leadership quality initiatives are harder to sustain” (Clemmit, 2006, p. 849). Also, many nursing homes do not want to pay and ensure additional employees. Instead, they choose to run their staff on the bare minimum. It is clear that some sort of policy change is extremely necessary."

"The building was very clean, from the front visitors area to the cafeteria and room I visited. It was pleasantly quiet at the time. I happened to show up around lunchtime, so I sat with the resident during her meal. There was slight confusion during the serving of the meal, but it appeared to be well-prepared food and the resident said she enjoyed it. She was given her medication with her lunch and the nurse was very polite and made sure that all of the pills were taken. The resident's clothing appeared to be in good, clean shape. This nursing home had a hospital odor but not a foul smell that sometimes is in a nursing home. There were posters up for some civic choir that was going to be performing soon at the facility. I heard a couple of alarms go off while I was there, but they were tended to fairly quickly. When I left, I noticed that the grounds were well kept and the parking lot seemed to be in good shape. I thought that this nursing home was much nicer than others that I have visited in my life. I would consider this facility if I needed to shop for a place such as this for a loved one. "

"Seminary Village was a very nice facility. All amenities were included (including the meals), and it's very clean and very affordable. They have a studio, a one-bedroom, and two-bedroom homes. Maintenance was excellent, too. It's very clean. The lady who toured us was very nice and very informative. The food was delicious. They gave us lunch in their nice-looking dining room and there's always drinks and fruits available. You go through a line, tell them what you want, and they bring it to your table. It's very nice. They clean your apartment, change your linens for you and wash them, but there's a free laundry area as well. There's also an exercise room, a beauty salon on the premises (haircuts were only $14), a chapel, and a library. They have get-togethers, parties/celebrations, and they go out twice a week to take you shopping or to eat. Everything for a flat fee. You can have a dog and a cat under 10 pounds and covered parking for extra."

"My father has been in the Alzheimer's unit for about 3 years. We rotate daily visits so we can stay on top of his care. My mother was in an Alzheimer's unit elsewhere, and we have visited others, so I am familiar with local units. I am pleased with his care. The older, longtime staff members are attentive and caring to patients. The unit and his room is always clean, something I'm a stickler about. My only complaint is that some young healthcare workers who are just starting out don't seem to really care about patients. I see that at most nursing homes I have visited. I wish they would learn more about empathy from longtime healthcare workers."

"MY experience is I've visited attended many different activities here for the residents employees and community I was free to view the facility its clean warm friendly and caring.the employees are like family if you dont have any they welcome you. I'm a personal assistant I've had client's here temporarily due to stairs in the homes. In MY opinion this is a good healthy environment. If I had to stay or put a friend or relatives here I'd do it if I had to stay this is where I'd choose to stay. I love the staff night and day.the food that's offered is good also. Nothing like the past when food had to be blan or no taste. Housekeeping staff is friendly also. Rooms are clean quiet and personalized. This is the place to be when you are in need."

"Mom required PT, OT and speech therapy after an extended hospital stay. Farmington Village was perfect. The hospital liason came to hospital to assess mom same day we called to inquire availability. Though the facility is older, it is spotless and well maintained. The staff was very attentive, treating mom with kindness and patience. The food was good, not at all bland hospital fare. The PT, OT and speech therapy was outstanding. I had peace of mind with mom staying there. The Christmas decorations were warm and cozy. The common area had tables and ample seating for us to work puzzles and play board games When she was ready to transfer to her Assisted living facility, the director, Phyllis, had paperwork promptly completed and transfer was seamless. If rehab or long term care is needed in the future we will go back to Farmington Village"
