My mother had Alzheimer's, and when I was no longer able to take care of her at home, I knew that Family Health West had a great reputation in the community and would provide the care that she and I both needed. The facility is clean and bright, sanitary without smelling like a nursing home, the residents are kept safe and secure, and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable -- it's obvious that they genuinely care about both the residents and the loved ones. I don't remember what all support they offer for the friends and family of their patients, just that it's available, and that they encourage accepting it without pressure. I do recall being able to meet with a "team" of caregivers, members of the staff who oversaw my mother's every need. They didn't just slam me with procedures and documentation, they engaged me in conversation, informed me of the care they were providing, and asked what they could do to personalize my mother's needs. After she passed away, a few of the caregivers even attended her memorial, which surprised me. I highly recommend Family Health West when assisted living becomes an option, they don't just stick their patients in a bed and tend to basic needs, they help their patients remain comfortable and truly alive.
