We offer regular monthly care and dementia training for our staff as required by the Department of Social Services. Also, we provide our staff various hands-on work skills training when working with residents with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia.

Our residents average age is 75-80. Our residents enjoy all the options with the activities we have to offer and the great meal choices that are Chef offers. The availability of 24 hour Caregivers and an on-site nurse gives residents and families peace of mind.

We provide a full range of activities that change daily. We include exercise, games, art, entertainment, Church services , weekly outings and much more.

We are in the heart of Hayes Valley. The streets are lined with boutiques, restaurants, bars, home made ice cream shops. Also have a park at the end of the street where you can have lunch and just watch all the people.

We have a bus that transports within San Francisco for outings and scheduled doctor visits
What makes the chef or dining program at The Village at Hayes Valley exceptional? What kind of menu can assisted living residents expect?
Our chef, David Cocum, we call him "Coco," is unique in that he provides a great variety of fresh foods daily. He takes pride in his cooking and it shows. We can accommodate different diets as needed from soft, to low sugar for diabetics and low salt. Just ask!

Safety is number one at The Village. Our caregivers have many years experience to make sure that each and everyone is personally attended to as needed. It is our caregivers that really separate us from our competition with many years experience and caring.
How does The Village at Hayes Valley keep residents' families informed about their loved ones?
We like to know the entire family personally and will respond as they like. Many like email, some phone calls, and we send letters out too. Our activities director always posts her activity calendar for the families to pick up when they visit and learn what is happening at The Village.

Resident to Staff ratio is dependent on acuity. On an average in AL 1:10, MC m 1:6
If The Village at Hayes Valley accepts dogs or cats, what indoor/outdoor areas can they enjoy?
We accept small dogs. They need to have all their shots and be able to be cared for by the resident. We have outdoor patio areas but residents are responsible for all clean up.

How many staffers are on duty in the daytime and overnight?
For AM & PM shifts, we have two Caregivers, plus the Med Tech, plus the Wellness Nurse who floats between AL & MC, plus the Memory Care Director, all who are able to assist with hands-on care of the residents. Overnight, we have a Caregiver, plus the Med Tech, both of whom will be readily available to assist with care.
What safety features or security measures does The Village at Hayes Valley provide to protect residents who wander?
We have a separate beautiful new memory care building that we are just completing. It has locks on the door with a code to get in and out. It is safe, secure and we believe our memory care community to be the best in San Francisco.
What programs or activities does The Village at Hayes Valley offer to keep residents engaged? How does the staff engage residents' long-term memories?
In our Memory Care, we really enjoy keeping our residents engaged through music; we have entertainers that come weekly to perform various genres of music for our residents, we enjoy doing sing-alongs and dancing with the residents, and we also play music all throughout the community, especially during our dining times. Music has been shown to be very therapeutic for residents with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. We also like to take our residents out for lunch outings and scenic drives to various locales in San Francisco to enjoy the fresh air and outdoors outside of the community. Also daily, we like to do trivia with our residents, to engage their minds on news and facts about items from their past to trigger positive memories.
Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?
Our Resident Services Director, as well as our Memory Care Director, both do semi-annual assessments of our residents, or upon change of condition. As part of the reassessments, we also conduct mini-mental tests to be able to gauge a residents cognitive function.
What techniques does The Village at Hayes Valley use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?
We like to ensure our residents are accorded dignity, and given the options for specials to choose from so they can fully be engaged and involved with the dining experience, rather than just putting plates of food in front of the residents.

We keep in constant contact with our families through calling the best contact numbers to reach them for more urgent matters. We exchange e-mails for less urgent matters as well.

The Village at Hayes Valley is located in the heart of Hayes Valley, San Francisco. We have the pleasure of being within a residential neighborhood, but just barely blocks away is the bustling Hayes St, with many new restaurants and stores for shopping that are constantly popping up.
Is The Village at Hayes Valley affiliated with a hospital if more care is needed?
Not particularly affiliated with a hospital, but we have close connections and relationships with social workers and discharge planners at hospitals should we need more care and support for our residents.
