My mother was transferred to Wellmont Hospice House after a devastating brain injury. I was very impressed with the staff and how accommodating that they were. Their whole purpose was to make mom comfortable in the last days of her life. The staff was very helpful in educating us on the signs of decline and provided moral and spiritual support. I was overly impressed with how they made this facility feel like home. It was the next best thing to being at home.

I cannot begin to express my utter disappointment in Wellmont Hospice. The in-home level of care was minimal at best with the family having to inform the care provider of the obvious level of additional assistance that was needed instead of the care providers seeing that for themselves. Additionally, comments made by one of the care providers made it sound as if patients were treated as "files" instead of human beings in the last phase of their life. Due to the above and a few other factors, we ended up making the decision to change Hospice care providers. The new provider was tremendously more responsive to our needs while delivering to those with a very high level of empathy and caring. Due to the care provider change, the former Wellmont equipment needed to be replaced with the new provider's but instead of waiting for a requested three days, which will likely take my mother through through the end of her life, Wellmont refused the request. Instead of being by my mother's bedside to comfort her, we were instead moving her to a new bed which caused her a lot of distress. Shortly thereafter, it was also very disconcerting to have to help Wellmont noisily break down her former bed that was now lying three feet away. This speaks further to the lack of empathy that we experienced. I am very hopeful that others haven't experienced the above and that ours was simply an anomaly. I am further hopeful that this feedback can be used constructively to provide a better experience for future patients and their families..

I would like to publicly thank you for the compassionate care that was given to my friend, during his final days before departing to spend eternity with the Lord. Although he was suffering from terminal cancer , you did what you could to give him any and all comfort and freedom from pain possible. For example , on his last full night, I walked into his room , finding him freshly bathed , with fresh bedding and clothing , tucked in bed in his favorite most comfortable position, and propped up so carefully with pillows, that he was able to sleep for so long and peacefully, barely moving the rest of the night. It was a blessing for him to be treated so lovingly, respectfully, and with such dignity , and not only on that particular night, but also during his whole stay , including the night of his departure to a better life. You have my eternal gratitude. The Board of Directors @ Wellmont should be very proud to know that the whole staff , including volunteers , do perform @ an exceptionally high level. You are a very kindhearted and loving group of people , and although you are "doing your job", you do it very well, and you set the bar very high for hospice care. You do all of this while maintaining a calm and tranquil atmosphere , and during such difficult times. I thank the Lord Jesus for you all. May He bless you and all of your loved ones forever, in the Way that only He can. James Tinsley, Bluff City , TN

This is the most wonderful place. My husband was there for several days before he passed. The staff is outstanding. I felt such peace when he was there. The beautiful angles that watching over us. The serine garden. Made my stay so comfortable. Thank you hospice house for you loving care that you gave me and my husband. God bless.

This facility is outstanding. The nurses, volunteers, etc. We could have not asked for better and thoughtful care of our mother. She was treated in such a respectful way and with dignity until she passed away. Our family was treated like Hospice family. We could not have had a better place for our Mom than Wellmont Hospice.

Wellmont Hospice House, in my opinion, would not be the ideal place to stay for an elderly resident. I compare it to the Hospice facility in Johnson City that is owned by Mountain States Health Alliance. The facility is kept clean, but interaction with the client is on a strict "professional" level, where conversation is limited to what the client is requesting for lunch that day and how the medication is doing. In my opinion, staff should interact with the client by engaging in conversation. People in this stage of life do not need indifference / "professionalism" to create further emotional pain.
