I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

I would not recommend this facility to my worst enemy. About one month before my mom passed away, she fell and hit her head in the hallway of the assisted living unit. She was left lying on the floor, sobbing in pain, for over 20 minutes with a giant goose egg on the back of her head while I frantically tried to reach a nurse for help. As usual, the nurses’ phone line went directly to voicemail. Even the aide (who had an ‘inside’ line to the nurses’ station) could not find anyone who knew the whereabouts of the nurse. Several months earlier, when my mom was projectile vomiting every 2-3 minutes, the nurses’ line was also busy. I had to call an ambulance, but the paramedics were unable to enter the ‘secure’ facility for over five minutes because the phone extension posted for entry was (and remains) the terminally busy nurses’ station. My mom passed away at approximately 11:15 pm on October 1, 2024, but a nurse did not arrive for more than a half hour and did not officially pronounce my mother dead until 12:01 am on October 2nd. For well over a year, my family has consistently expressed concern about the inability to reach the nursing staff, the disconnect between the nursing staff and the aides, and the precarious practice of posting a phone number that is not manned for entry by emergency responders. Not a single thing has been corrected. In fact, I received no reply whatsoever in response to my letter to Redstone’s corporate offices regarding these issues, sent one month before my mom’s death. There are several kind, caring, and attentive nurses and aides at this facility, but they are truly the exception. I thank them immensely for their help, but the problems are systemic. I am comforted knowing that my mom is now at peace in heaven, but saddened that she had to endure her final years in virtual hell at Redstone Highlands before her death. In any event, I can never “unsee” the many disturbing things that I witnessed at the Murrysville facility. If you truly love your family member, avoid Redstone Highlands for their well-being and your own peace of mind. (If you are wondering why we allowed my mother to remain at Redstone Highlands … it is because they were contractually obligated to provide “benevolent care” to my mom if she outlived their own algorithm predicting her age of death, and calculating the substantial amount she was required to pay when she entered as an independent living resident approximately 17 years ago. She outlived their prediction and survived to the age of 101.)

I visited this facility

I visited Redstone Highlands at Murrysville. I liked everything about what I saw there, I thought the apartments were nice, and the amenities were very nice. And I liked it overall. I looked at the two bedrooms. The layout was very nice, and the size was very good. I liked it. The few staffers that I met were very nice and everyone was very friendly. The girl that took me around was very nice, and to all of the staff in the dining room. I saw the beauty shop and the gift shop and all that stuff. Everybody I came in contact with was wonderful. The food looked good. I saw some people eating, and what they had on their plates looked nice. The gift shop was nice because they have nice little things to buy, so you didn't have to run out. If you need toothpaste or something like that, they have a nicely stocked gift shop. The outdoor space was probably the least accommodating. They do have balconies on each of the higher levels, and the lower level, which I looked at, had a little porch off the living room, the sliding doors. But as far as the other stuff outside, they didn't have a whole lot.

I visited this facility

Redstone Highlands Personal Care has a very good reputation. I have friends who has their parents staying at that facility. They were very friendly and open. I was a walk-in and without an appointment, but they showed me around and spent more than adequate time with me. But there were no vacancies for the type of care that my mother needed at that time. I did not sample of their food, but I did see the menu and there were numerous options. I was surprised of how they operate. It's quite commendable.

I visited this facility

All of the rooms were nice. Upscale dining room, huge library, large chapel, etc. it appeared to be well kept and clean. Staff was friendly for the most part and residents seemed to be happy with their living conditions at redstone highlands. Lots of families were there to visit residents which lead me to believe that the redstone was very welcoming to visitors and encouraged it. The servers in the dining room were polite and appeared well groomed. Kitchen was large, but could have been a little cleaner. I did notice a few staff members who seemed to not want to be there to work or did not seem to care about the residents or visitors at redstone. This was a bit upsetting. After speaking with a few of the residents, I learned that there were many fun activities for them to do provided by redstone, so they were never bored there.
