My mom was a past resident of Artis Senior Living of West Shore. For the most part, our experience was very good. I only had one negative experience with them, and that was the communication among their nursing staff. There always seemed to be a problem with the new staff, particularly from the nighttime med techs. They would send my mother out to the hospital for something that was for routine, that everybody else knew about not to send her to the hospital for. That happened twice when we were there, and that cost me money, and they just sent her right back, because there was nothing wrong with her, and that was all a matter of communication. The staff who took care of her were great though. The activities they had were also great, and the facility was clean, although they kept losing a lot of her things, but I guess that happens in that kind of facility. I didn't get a lot of her stuff back, and they gave me other people's things that I had to return. My mother always thought that the food was good, and I used to go there for lunch when I could go. I would visit with her up until lunchtime, walk her to lunch, and sit her down. The dining area was very nice. What I liked about the facility was they were set up in what they called neighborhoods, and there were four different kinds of it. It was only during pre-COVID when they were allowed to wander between the neighborhoods and had a lot of freedom. I also liked that everything in Artis Senior Living of West Shore is locked down, and that they could not get out without a staff person being with them to let them out. However, they cost twice as much as almost any facility out there, so there's no value in what they charged, and they raised it three times on me in four months.

Artis Senior Living of West Shore was excellent. It was a facility built specifically for memory care and it was very bright. It was sort of funny because the person who was doing the tour had decided to put us in the one room, which is usually the bingo room, so there was bingo supposed to be happening. The whole-time residents kept coming and being like, "When are we supposed to start?". But it was really good to see how many residents were interested in playing bingo. They're out and about and the staff there was everywhere and very friendly. One of them had worked 13 years for the Alzheimer's Foundation, so was very knowledgeable. It was just excellent to see.

My father was in Artis Senior Living of West Shore. We were happy at first. They said they could handle our father, but after 4 weeks, they increased the price by $500 a month. We don't think they did a really good job at keeping an eye on him. He fell out of bed a lot at night. They should not have accepted him because he was too far along for their capabilities to handle. I wasn't real happy. The facility looked very nice and very clean. They should improve on their management. His room was very nice, spacious and well lit.

Artis of West Shore is very inviting and very friendly. It is all dementia and it's all on one floor. There's a large fence around the whole perimeter of the building, so they're free to go outside. The staff is very knowledgeable about dementia, and there is not a turnover from what I can tell. They're really caring, and they know all the patients by their names. The dining area is very close to the living quarters, but the food is just average. They have bowling, play bingo, there's a corn toss outside, and exercise classes.
