"During this time of COVID concern the process for visitation is difficult but even at that I can visit my wife through her window, bring flowers that can be left on the window ledge, talk to her by phone, and best of all we can see each other regularly. I appreciate the staff thinking about how to make it work, rather than why it can't or won't. I think the rooms are excellent, and the staff work hard to make this a top rate facility. "

"I went to look at Carlin House. I like the open living space, where they can eat together, and it's not separate. It was like a big open concept, and that was good. There is a piano there for my dad as well. The staff was excellent. They had a gym and a salon. The upkeep was very good."

"The rooms are a little smaller then some of the other assisted living facilities that i have looked in to. The staff is super friendly and there for all of the people living there. They make sure that the residents get warm meals and will cook them anything when ever they are hungry no matter what time of the day or night it is. The work well with my grandmother to help her dementia. The facilities are very nice and clean they are just a little small. "

"My mom was in Legacy Chillicothe for several months. The people there are sweet, but sometimes the care she needs she doesn't get. They transport her to doctor's appointments. Some staff members just don't seem to care to do their job but overall, they talk to my mother and say they were very sad and concerned when she left. I have tried the food, and as much as my mother said it was horrible, but it's not too bad. They're very good. If she doesn't want that food, "what can I get you?" And so they will get a sandwich or soup or both, something easy that is off the menu. They have church. They have people come in and play music. They have game time. They have paintings. They give them a four-by-six canvas and they're allowed to paint. Legacy needs to update their building and they cost more."

"I highly recommend this facility. They did an excellent job with my Aunt last year when she became terminal. I recently had to admit my uncle to Darst, their care is beyond special. It seems more like a family, than like a Nursing home. It's very clean, everything is organized, it doesn't have a terrible smell. The staff is very friendly and they treat their patients as if they were their own family members. I have never been in such a well organized, well run home to assist people who can't take care of themselves. It's definitely worth the money and I do not worry about anything because I trust them 100%. "

"My aunt was at Bristol Village. She was in independent, then she moved to assisted living, and then hospice took over. They have all stages of living conditions for the seniors. They have lots of activities. They have a bus that takes them around the town like to groceries. Plus, they have private drivers that will take them to out-of-town appointments. I didn't try the food. If there were days when she didn't feel like cooking or she didn't feel well, she would just call over and they would bring a meal to her apartment. It was like $5 a day, and they would bring her a light lunch, and then they would bring her evening meal. They have a library, they have different types of craft rooms like a woodshop for the men and some women are interested in it, they have a glass type thing where they make figurines and leaded glass type stuff, and then they have a little shop where they can sell the things they make. They're beautiful things and really pretty things. They have a pool, they have a walking track, and they have a gym. It's a very small gym but all the stuff is pneumatic so they're not pulling on like heavy weights. It's pneumatic, so it's a constant flow, and it's not a jerky-type thing. The facility is very clean."

"My husband was at Signature HealthCARE. It was bad. He was in quarantine for the first two weeks and he was inside his room, so we couldn't even see him. We tried to talk to him on the phone, but since he was paralyzed on one side, he couldn't manage the phone very well. Then they moved him after two weeks into a room with a window, so I can go and look at him through the window, but he is still having trouble with the phone. They had no phone in the room so I had to take his cell phone, and it's also very hard to manage his cell phone with one hand. I wanted to take his clothes home and wash them because he didn't have any clothes when he asked for something to put on. He had clothes in the room because when he left, he took his clothes home with him. They got him out the bed, maybe three times, the whole time he was there. There's no communication. He fell the first night he was there, and they did not let anyone know. He was trying to get out of the bed but he didn't realize he couldn't, and after that they would not let him out of the bed. I gave him one of those grabber things so he could pull himself up whenever, and they took it away from him. One night, he managed to call in the middle of the night, and they took his phone away from him that night. They told him that I told them to take it away from him, which of course I did not because I wanted to hear from him anytime he wanted to call me, it doesn't matter what time at night. So we had no idea what medicines he was on. There was just nothing, no contact with his family either me or his son at all. He was miserable and felt like he was in prison. They had a fellow with him in a double room, who kept his TV on loud all the time. There was also a woman who wandered up down the hall and came into his room. He didn't want women coming into his room. He was very mad. It might have been different if we had been allowed to visit him and help him with things that he needed help, but we were not allowed to because of the COVID. There were a couple of good nurses. He got some therapy. They put him in his chair a couple of times, and the guy said he would be back, but he said he went home. He was stuck in his chair not being able to sit up very well, and finally, two nurses came and managed to wrestle him back in the bed. He was really thankful for that and wrote a nice letter thanking them, thanking God for good nurses. It was not a good experience for any of us. Some of the staff were good; some of them were not. Four people came in one day and surrounded my husband's bed. They got onto him and talked really mean to him because he said something to them, because they took the grabber thing away from him and put it out of his reach. Then a couple of days later, someone came in and apologized and said that should not have happened. He's lying there helpless, he can't do anything for himself, he has to depend on everybody. There's nothing wrong with his mind. His brain is fine; his mind is fine. His left side just doesn't work. The facility seemed alright, but you can't really tell when you're outside looking in. He said the food was bad. He could hardly eat anything when he was there."

"Years ago my aunt was a resident at Overbrook and I would visit every week with my grandmother. Many nursing homes I have been to have that distinct smell to it (not pleasant) but I didn't notice that with Overbrook, and that's a plus. The nurses were always very friendly when we would visit, and my aunt was well taken care of (clean and fresh clothes too). The room itself wasn't bad either, though they could have been a bit cozier. I think the most important thing for me was that she was well cared for, clean and the nurses were friendly! I can't remember exactly what activities they had, but I do remember my aunt looking forward to certain days because of different activities. Oh, and I almost forgot, I can remember her saying the food was pretty good, I think that is rare too. Compared to the nursing home my grandma was in, Overbrook gets pretty high regards from me. "

"We have chosen Westmoreland Place because of its location. I like their friendly staff, too. They have basic common areas. They're attentive. The residents are free to roam around. My parents' apartment is fine. It's adequate. They've got everything they need. The facility is very clean. The atmosphere is good. We are really happy with them."

"My mom has moved into Abbyshire Nursing Center (Formerly Scenic Hills Nrsg and Rehab Center). We chose it because it's close to home. She's actually in rehabilitation services. They're working with her in therapy and also with memory care. They're just excellent. They've taken very good care of mom so far. The nursing staff is excellent. Everything has been wonderful. The admission process was easy. They are very efficient. They talk to me whenever I call. They answer any questions that I have promptly. They are doing therapy with her, but as of right now, because of Covid, they're not letting outside ministers or any activities directors or anything like that come into the facility, so that kind of stinks. The facility is very clean and it doesn't smell. We are not paying anything right now because we're still under Medicare for 100 days, but we will be going to private pay, and we are going to keep her there. We're not going to move her because she is receiving the quality of care she needs ."

"Holzer Assisted Living Gallipolis is really good. It's clean, nice, and big. When my friend was there, it was fantastic. She loved it. It was wonderful. They had games and some things that they played. They had a nurse named Johanna and she was a fantastic lady, too. They got a nice dining room and if they're unable to assist themselves, they help them. They were really good. They just needed more workers."
