"Vintage Gardens was really clean and nice. The staff members that we met were nice. We met some of the people that lived there and they love it. They had no complaints. It's well kept up. The staff during the tour was very knowledgeable and knew everybody in there. The menu was on the bulletin board and it looked OK. There were some residents by their dining area doing a puzzle or two. The facility was in very good condition."

"I toured Two Timbers. They only have 8 to 10 residents at a time, so it's a real homey feeling place. It's just very small and very clean. It has a big old fireplace and everybody's surrounding the fireplace, which has a TV on one side and the dining room on the other. It was very nice, and the staff was very friendly."

"This retirement community was mediocre. I have seen many facilities that are much nicer when it comes to aesthetics and design, but it was very old and in need of a cosmetic face-lift. The facility itself is not for active seniors, it is more equipped for sedentary or minimally active seniors. (In other words, there isn't anything to do for the seniors who are still alive and kicking.) They have the usual television set with movies, board games, cards, and bingo nights. The seniors capable of walking are allowed to visit other residents as long as it is before "Lights out". The staff were courteous and kind for the most part, but being I was only there for a day, I only saw the nurses on that particular shift. Overall this nursing home is a dreary place with the nurses being the factor that makes or breaks the environment overall. The bottom line: This home gets a 3/5.The good: Nurses, support system, easy access for pick up and drop off, secure location. The bad: Not for very active seniors due to lack of entertainment, on older facility with a dismal appearance, and a curfew. "I did a tour of Jonesbrook Estates. It was clean, bright, and very welcoming. The staff were friendly and gracious. It was a visit without an appointment, which was even more impressive. The food smells good. All the people there seemed to be enjoying themselves. They were friendly, they had smiles. They seemed happy. The room layouts were convenient, and the rooms were very clean. They had a courtyard, and that was lovely. They have activity rooms that were well appointed, as far as things to do and activities. The dining area was very homey. The facility looked very well kept. I thought it was the best I have seen."

"My father was a resident of Maple Heights from the time Oak Ridge Acres closed until his passing in 2010. My mother is currently a resident in the skilled nursing wing, having transferred from the assisted living wing. The staff have been wonderful and very caring with all aspects of her care, keeping in constant touch with me as to her care. I would highly recommend Maple Heights to anyone needing nursing home care by a staff that considers the residents to be family."

"I have neighbor and friends at Shady Lawn, in the past 8 months. They love it, their rooms are decorated the way the want. The staff is quick on the call light, they are pleasant, they do screen visitors, and they seem to really care about their residents. The food is good per my 3 friends. My biggest concern is their parking is horrible. But it was clean, doesn't have any smell like some homes do. The residents enjoy bingo and games with play money to buy items. They have a wonderful enclosed courtyard. Residents have transportation when they need it. This is all I am aware of at this time."

"My name is Margaret and my father John, was a resident at the Falls City Care Center. He suffered from parkinson's and was in a wheelchair during his time there. He also was bed ridden quite a few times. I visited him almost daily during his 2 year stay there. I admired the nurses and CNA's that worked there especially the ones that worked on a one on one basis with my dad. The employees were always friendly and very willing to help in any way possible. They made my father feel like he was very important. They all took great care in making him feel comfortable and loved while he was there. His room was kept very clean and very warm. There were many times when my fahter was bed ridden with illnesses and the staff kept a close eye on him and his condition as well as his physical well being. When my father passed away, many of the staff came to his funeral and shed tears for their loss. It was a great testiment to the staff of this nursing home. They really do care for the residents there "

"Parkdale Manor did a lot of remodeling. So, it has improved in the last couple of years. The dining area and a lot of the rooms have had new paint, new tile, and been fixed up. So, it looks fairly nice now. Just like the people you meet on the street, the staff I met there varies. Some were unbelievably helpful and kind to me, over the top supporting, and went out of their way to help me and my mother, then there were others that were having a bad day and were grumpy. So, it was kind of a range of both, but there are multiple things they did that I greatly appreciated now that COVID hit. I don't really blame them for any bad things that happened during that time, just because it was hard on all healthcare at that time. I have eaten there and my mom really likes the food, and she always compliments it. She loves to play bingo, but they also play other games like flyswatter volleyball with balloons, and some kind of Pictionary or Wheel of Fortune. My only complaint with them is they don't do these activities every day, maybe only four days a week. So, my mom gets bored on the weekends. Also, even if they have done some remodelling, it is kind of hard to disguise the building's age."

"I am currently staying in Autumn House. I am happy that they have elevators, as I cannot use the stairs too well. I like that the bathroom in my unit has a walk-in shower with grab bar and I do not need to step into a tub. I have a girl who comes in to clean every couple of weeks or so. They have what they call an oats bus, which we can use as transportation. However, they are pretty much based out of the Autumn House parking lot. So you have to call twenty four hours in advance and it is a dollar each way. "

"My grandmother stayed at this Golden Living. She was able to have and enjoy social interactions with her peers, that she had not had for years because of being confined to the house with her illness. The staff were always patient and understanding with her even though she can be demanding. She has always been very picky about how food is prepared and what it tastes like but never had a problem with the food that is served. Upon her death the staff was very respectful of the family and some even came to the funeral. The staff are so considerate and caring of not only the patients but the families that it makes it far easier to be away from them even if you do not want to. The nurses and CNA's treat family much like their own family and are very open and talkative with them. You never feel like you are in the way while visiting here. "

"My father has moved into Field Pointe Senior Living. The location is good. The size of the unit suits his needs. The kitchen is a full-size kitchen with granite countertops. It's well-appointed and he's comfortable there. The staff members have been very, very good. They're very attentive to him. They got a new cook at the facility. They get two meals a day, so they'll bring it to him. The staff came down and met him personally and just introduced herself. It's just things like that, they get to know their people there. I have the manager's phone number, and she said, "Text me if you have any problems and questions," so they've just been very, very good to him. He told me the other day when the new cook came down, he said she made fried chicken and that it's real fried chicken, and he said it was very good, so he was pretty excited about that. The facility is just really super nice. It's got a screened-in back porch for him. The kitchen is a full kitchen, there's washer and dryer, and high ceilings. It just feels very spacious. It's not a big unit, it's a little under a thousand square feet, but it feels bigger than it is. Everything's very nice and kept very nice. They have housekeeping come in once a week. They have a clubhouse up there, and they have an activity planner. My father hasn't participated in any of those because he's been kind of sick since we moved him in. He had RSV and he hadn't really participated in a whole lot and it's really cold, so he hasn't gone up there and done anything. But I know they have weekly activities, kind of what the residents want to do. Since this is the independent side and people can come and go as they please, it's really up to the residents to decide what they want to do. The staff have been great. The value for money is a five, especially since it will stay at the same price if he has to move into assisted. We can try to keep him in the same place without moving them all around."

"The resident rooms just have a bed no chairs for the residents to sit. So they have to sit on the side of their bed or in a wheelchair even if they do not need a wheelchair. The smell when you walk in the front door is awful. The smell of urine is very overwhelming. When I asked which direction to my grandma's room the lady at the front desk was very rude and said you have to have a mask on. I was happy to wear a mask but needed to know where to find one. These was a puddle on the floor which was urine and I had to clean that up and there were no gloves in the residents room."
