I was a resident of Shelby Health & Rehabilitation Center. The rehab people were very nice, and the food was decent. I've been to many rehab centers, and the food wasn't as good as it was over there. They were nice or clean. They were modern, and they all seem to have little refrigerators. I never had to transport myself and I had to go back and forth to dialysis; they took care of the transportation for that. They had a recreation center. I didn't participate much because my foot was amputated, but I read the calendar that they put out every month, and it seemed like they had a well-rounded schedule.

There are 2 nurses here that should be fired immediately! State has been notified. They do not care about your loved ones. 3 weeks and endless examples. Clogged catheter for 12 hours(they were asked multiple times). Ignoring of the nurse button. Did not assist my father at eating after they were told multiple times he can't do it himself. RUDE, unprofessional and downright degrading.

Beautiful facility with horrible care. My father was recuperating from COVID and he got worse in this facility instead of better. My questions were unanswered and he laid in bed for a week before I had him discharged. There are some staff members that were very nice, but they were ineffective at addressing my dad's health. I attempted to work with administration and they didn't do anything to help. I don't see how they can bill Medicare for services he did not receive.

My mom was a patient at Shelby Rehabilitation Center, 46100 Schoenherr Rd., Shelby Twp., MI. **If you are only interested in the O.T. & P.T. this is the place to go, wonderful workers in this department, HOWEVER, if you or a family member aren't willing to stay at the center 12 hours a day, in order to manage your loved ones care then this is NOT the place to be. Most of the nursing care, aids, etc. provide horrible service. There were a few wonderful nurses/aids and you could tell they loved their patients. As most Rehab facilities go they are unacceptably under staffed, by design, therefore the patients suffer immensely due to management, owners, VP, CEO, CFO, etc. caring more about saving money than treating patients in a humane, dignified way. Now I'll explain why I made the above comments. A. My mom wears dentures, has sporadic chocking issues and was not given her dentures before attempting to eat her meals. B. I cant tell you how many times my sister walked into my moms room to find her completely naked or partially naked and laying or sitting in her own fecal matter. C. The rudeness of many aids and Nurses what totally uncalled for. D. We could ask 3 or 4 workers the same question and get 3 or 4 different answers, no one seem to be on the same page. E. We told one of the nurses that my mom and horrible diarrhea all day long, the nurses reply was "your mom hasn't had any diarrhea today!" We were worried she might have had C-Diff due to very strong I.V. antibiotics for a staff infection. Finally, after waiting for 2 days to get a vile and toilet catch we (the family) were able to get a sample, which was not easy due to my mom not being able to stand up on her own. The staff should have been the ones getting a stool sample! F. And finally, after O.T. and P.T. did a remarkable job with my mom we told the facility we wanted mom discharged in no more than two days. The day of discharge the facility wanted to do one more blood draw, which they did. Said it would be a few days before getting the results. After 10 days of not hearing from them we called for results and were told there was NO bloodwork tests on file. I could go on but I think, by now, you have made up your mind of where you DON'T want your loved one. Best of luck to all of you in finding a Rehab Facility.

Your loved one is basically medicated and left in bed for 80% of the day. My family member would call and was so dilerious she fell out of bed also this was just for three weeks all this happened we took her out before anymore damage could be done. This was during the pandemic so I could just look through the window but every time I went she was laying in her bed curled up and sleeping

My dad went to Shelby Nursing Center and it was horrible. I would not send anybody there. His stay there made him so much worse. It's just terrible care. My brother took him out there because it was just so bad. They're not knowledgeable. I don't know if they have formal training or schooling or whatever. My dad went in there because he had congestive heart failure, and he had a lot of swelling. When he went there, the staff took him off his medication for the swelling and then they let him sit with his legs dangling, so his legs were so swollen. They placed him as a fall risk so they wouldn't let him walk by himself, but they would not come and walk with him either. His aide didn't even know he had congestive heart failure. He came out to the point where we had to wheelchair him out of there.

Was impressed when my husband first went there for rehab from hospital. Nice rooms and spacious therapy room. He fell 2 or 3 times while there and last time hit his head and needed stitches. He got Covid there and they lost his clothes. They are very understaffed and should have more protection for dementia patients. Am no longer impressed.

My mother was staying at this facility. Unfortunately, her time was cut short due to insurance not approving her stay. I called the social workers, Melissa, and the other lady, and in total, I left three messages for them to call me back to discuss options; they never called me back. I called and spoke with admissions three times. Diana was one of them, and I asked them to call me back with a dollar amount for a five-day out-of-pocket cost. They never called me back. I also am in customer service; these people are “looking over our loved ones,” and they should NOT be in the pistons that they are in their lack of empathy and follow up are stunning on all levels. By all means, keep your loved ones away from this place. The nurses were great social workers, and admissions could not care less about you, or you loved ones.

My dad is now in Shelby Health & Rehabilitation Center. They could have more staffing, but everyone there is wonderful. The place is neat, clean. The physician is amazing. It's just a really nice place. They have wonderful spaces for people to sit, not that they were encouraged during COVID, but they have wonderful, comfortable spaces. They have very caring people. The place is neat as a pin, and well maintained all the way around.

My mother was neglected here, she had a stroke the second day she was here and they did nothing. She was in here for a week and did not see the doctor until a week later, that is when he sent her to the ER and we found out she had a stroke days earlier. They did nothing, we complained about her symptoms daily. We never had call backs from the nurses about her condition after repeated attempts. They left her in the bathroom for 45 minutes at a time and lost her personal items. I would give negative stars if I could. Elderly sick people should not have to cry and suffer everyday for a week, feeling abandoned and that no one is listening to their symptoms and doing something about it. Abusive, neglectful, and unacceptable.

My mother was at your facility 4 times and she had very good care from the staff, especially the nurses. The issue I have is with nursing. The nurses do a wonderful and professional job but I feel they are overworked and have too many patients per one nurse on the wing they are working on. The nursing staff do not have enough time to spend with the patient and or family as they have to contend to the overload of patients that they have for their shift. I can see why there’s always a turn over of nurses as the 4 times my mother was a patient there , I seen different nurses and have asked about it. I was told there was a new owner and things will change. I hope this will happen for the sake of the patients and the working staff, like the wonderful nurses that you do have. It’s a shame that you have to work these nurses so hard that they have to leave because they’re overwhelmed and can’t give the loving care that the patients deserve. So I hope with the new management in place they will have more nurses that will attend to the patients needs at your facility at a ratio that will not burn out your nurses that you currently have. Thanks, Lee Emery

Shelby Nursing Center was fabulous. My mother was there for three weeks in a beautiful private room and very well taken care of. The physical therapy staff was wonderful. I met them and I went to one of her therapy sessions and they were always willing to answer questions. They had a lot of activities that they could do. They had ice cream at 3:00 every afternoon. People could sit and have an ice cream social. They also had a web room and with really good wi-fi service. The staff was nice and attentive. They had a hairdresser, a cafe and movies. It's in a really nice place. The food was pretty good. It had everything you could want. It was clean and pretty, and pricey, but it was nice. They allow you to bring pets in.

I want to take a minute and thank Shelby for all the wonderful care I received while recouperating from surgery. Everyone was so kind to me and my husband. Knowing I was in such good care, gave my husband much relief when he went home in the evening. May God bless each and every one of you.

Shelby was the best place for my dad after a car accident. He was in the hospital for 18 days. We were so pleased that the nursing home was able to ensure that every basic need was completed and his extensive bandages were always completed, and never an infection. And he left walking. Thank goodness for Shelby staff!

My mom recently stayed at Shelby to get therapy before going home. Her therapist was wonderful and very patient in helping my mom get stronger. Mom liked having multiple choices for her meals and enjoyed the ice cream social every afternoon. If mom needs therapy again after a hospital stay we’ll definitely be going back to Shelby.

This place is the best nursing facility in the community. I have had both my father and mother in 2 other nursing facilities for rehab and end of life care. And Shelby Nursing Center is by far the best. Very caring, compassionate staff who are very supportive to families facing tough decisions, like we did. And both my parents loved the food!

Sorry to say, Father has been there for only 24 hr and considering moving him already. Twice already he's been sitting in his own feces for up to 1 hr. Seems to be understaffed.. Who whom I me so far, most of the "nursing staff" seem pleasant. He can not walk and the staff moved his urine container to the other side of the room, so he also pee'd the bed... So far Not so good

wouldn't even give them a one star. My mom had a traumatic brain injury. I was told they could handle it. They had no idea how to treat her. They treated her as if she had dementia. We ended up taking her out after a couple of falls. We took her to the hospital where she was totally dehydrated. Took 2 days to get her rehydrated. Social worker had not idea about TBI centers. Nurses would swear and no one care, but the receptionist.

My mother recently was here and the facility was beautiful! She loved the new section! My mother was very weak from being in the hospital and the therapy staff worked hard to get mom stronger and healthier before coming home. The medical staff was very caring and seemed genuinely concerned with my mothers medical issues. Great place! I would highly recommend to friends and family for short term rehab!

Years ago this facility was very good but has since really gone down hill. Very, very understaffed and very slow response to patients. They've left my mom waiting after pushing her button for an acceptable period of time. Hopefully we will not have to us this facility again anytime soon.

My dad was in this facility recently, it was his 3rd time for rehabilitation over the past couple years. The staff has all been very friendly and want I g to be helpful, starting with the receptionist as you walk in. The therapists were able to explain goals and what was needed to obtain them. The nursing staff was always professional, friendly and courteous. My o lying complaint was on the ability of the staff to be prompt when needed to help with bathroom facilities. At least once every day the help for my father would arrive many minutes after called.. If the one issue could be fixed I would have no qualms in rating a 5.

I was recently involved in an automobile accident and my doctor recommended short term rehab after my hospital stay. My family toured Shelby Nursing Center and found the facility clean and inviting, with a helpful admissions staff. The facility has set their standards very high. My nursing staff and therapists were exceptional! I will definitely recommend this rehab facility to my family and friends.

I have a relative in the facility who is a resident, although it was unexpected the facility is just what she needed. The nursing and support staff is very friendly and helpful. I'm not sure she would have made the progress that she's made at another facility. During one of my visits I was surprised to find that the facility had a café, the café has a host of items they even have Starbucks! I have visited the café almost every time I visited and the young ladies that have helped me a just as nice and helpful as the rest of the staff. What I noticed on a few recent visits is what I assume is the upper level management, they speak to the employees as if they were animals the lack of respect is unbelievable one time I could even hear one of them yelling through the phone while there was a line of guest waiting to be served by the young lady. I'm unsure of who it is that run that part of the facility but the young ladies do not deserve to be treated in that matter especially from the experiences I have. I did over hear one of the young ladies on the phone repeatedly say "yes Ms. Mack" when I could hear the yelling through the phone. Outside of the upper management in this café I would definitely recommend this facility to anyone in need of one.

I have so many great things to say about this facility. After my unexpected trip to the hospital, the therapy I received at Shelby helped me feel more than prepared to return home. The staff was very attentive and I always felt comfortable asking for help when I needed it. Meals were served quickly and there was always a variety to choose from. I would not hesitate to recommend this facility to others. Overall a great rehabilitation experience.

My husband was here for Rehab. Rehab staff and nurses were good. Cannot say that of the aids. Some were not trained properly. Would not help him slide from wheelchair to commode. Today we received a past due bill from them for my husbands deductible. Part was applied to a different physicians bill but they want the full amount. I will be reporting to the fraud department of our blue cross. We started getting bills before they even billed our insurance. I have spoken to them 3 times, now I am going to get legal council as this is fraud. I was not going to write review, but now I feel others need to know. One day an aid came and told my husband he had an appt in the beauty parlor for a haircut. He said no I don't,she told him I made the appointment, which I did not. How many patients get suckered into that racket! Lucky my husband knew what was going on.we witnessed people just sitting with food trays in front of them and then the food being taken away even when they couldn't feed themselves. Sad sad place to have your loved one . Glad my husband got to come home! Aids come in turn call light off and leave without addressing the call I could go on and on

I recently spent two weeks in the Shelby Nursing Center after back surgery. I was very pleased with the staff and services that were provided. I almost felt like I was in a resort because the room was like a hotel room with all the amenities that I needed. The nurses aides were pleasant and helpful. The nurses were sympathetic to my pain and other needs. The wait staff in the dining room were cheerful and remembered my name and my favorite choices. The doctors spent enough time with me to answer my questions. The P.T. and O.T. staff were supportive and encouraging, never pushing too hard for the exercises when I felt tired.. I would highly recommend this facility to my family and friends if they needed rehab services.

My father was in the hospital 1 month after a heart attack, I insisted he was moved to Shelby Rehab because they gave us such an amazing tour and told us about all of the rehab and care he would be getting. 1) Staff moved at there own pace sadly and 80 year old's bladder may not work at that pace and they would not let him go on his own because he was to weak. 2) We were told he would see other needed Dr's while he was there a podiatrist, hearing Dr. ect. we constantly asked when they were coming (they never did) 3) After 3 weeks Shelby deemed him ready to come home. My husband and I went for "Training" to see how and what he needs to be home. We got there that morning my dad did not look right and there was a medical question that I asked to a nurse and rehab specialist (regarding a change in his care, that I was not notified about) I was told he was getting what he needed and I asked who and when it was changed "I don't know but they wouldn't have changed it if he didn't need it" I stayed with my dad that whole day he could not do the rehab or training he was too week. I am very sad to say that my dad died later that day (he was a DNR patient). Around 10 pm after we left and made final arrangement Shelby Nursing called and left a message stated that they were calling about my dad but not to worry he is doing OK and I should call them in the morning. Please when making a care decision, look deeper than the sales pitch on the tour, I made that mistake.

Don't go here. Horrible place. My mom fell 3 times. I asked after the second fall why this happened because nurses know she is a fall risk. Her nurse actually said to me " they have the right to fall". My mom is 85 pounds and dementia. She fell a 3rd time this morning and is in ICU as I write this. Broken bones and a brain bleed. Also, her cashmere scarf that she loved to touch went missing a couple days ago. Please, don't leave your loved ones here if they can't fend for themselves.

My mother has been there currently for over a week and the care has been horrible! You truly have to fight for everything! My mom was having a coughing fit and the lpn came and said she could have a breathing treatment. My mother asked if the albuterol in it was a steroid and the lpn said "yes". I'm a nurse! IT IS NOT A STEROID!! she then said she would be right back to start it AND NEVER CAME BACK!! I found her sitting at her desk a half hour later asking if I needed anything? Really?? Mom is there for PT and OT and apparently they don't have schedules. They just show up. And usually at the same time, so she ends up not getting one. After finally begging for a schedule, they aren't doing EITHER on a day they have her "on their schedule". Food? Let's just say Fastfood puts them to shame. I stayed for dinner one night and got chicken. It was all pink inside. I asked for the porkchop that was so so over cooked, that when you put your fork in it, the whole thing fell apart. I call and get transferred to a phone that just rings on and on. My mom is tired and has to ask several times for everything. She's so upset and depressed that she looks like she's getting worse. When they saw her in the hospital they said they would do "anything" to get her to stay there. Not so far.....

Horrendous place. Zero communication with the family. My Mom's femur was shattered while there - we still don't know why. Sent her home with a handful of narcotics for pain. No medication management. Told us Medicare was forcing her to leave after 3 weeks -- Medicare said request never even filed with them. THE WORST experience possible. Tried calling head administrator - NEVER returned calls. Contacted Beaumont Hospital - they say they are affiliated wit h -- Beaumont says they have nothing to do with. Avoid.

I was a resident at Shelby for som 6 good, weeks and was more than satisfied with the care. the nursing staff, Nursing Aides were very professional and yet very personable and kind. Food was pretty good with some of the best mashed potatoes ever!! The therapy group was by far the stars at Shelby. I couldnt stand or walk and through thier fine work six weeks later I was able to walk out to the car, maybe not thee best. However, I could walk which was a small miracle in itself. All in alll a great facility

My aunt was at Shelby Nursing Center for awhile. The staff was very caring and took very good care of her. It was very clean and nice and offered a lot of activities for her. Their dining room was good, but she chose to eat in her room most of the time. I saw their food, and it seemed pretty good.

I was a patient at Shelby in 2013 for 6 weeks. As I was transferred by ambulance from a hospital in Detroit, I was not in the best of health. The nursing staff is stretched too thin, as were the aides. Forget seeing a doctor, they do rounds maybe once a week at about 5am. But overall, they are all good people. Physical therapy is twice a day, and they come get you, and bring you back. Food was pretty good, you choose your own menu for the whole next week. They have ice cream socials every afternoon in the dining room. They are free to visitors as well as patients. The aides take orders for those who are unable to get their own. The snack cart comes around in the evening, and if you need, they will deliver a meal from the kitchen, after hours. Previously, I was in a nursing home in Detroit, and if you want to compare a ghetto nursing home to Shelby Nursing Center, well.. there is no comparison. The staff is cheerful, and accommodating, but too many staff cutbacks gave this review only 4 stars.

My husband transplant physician referred him to this facility evidently he has no idea that this place is HORRIBLE! My husband has been here two weeks and it has not gotten any better. I was on the phone with him one day and he told me that he had rung for an assistant to get him some water it had been over an hour. I had to hang up and call the nurse's desk to get him some water. This is just one of the problems that he has had there. Pain meds is not given on schedule. Test not done in a timely manner. I would never refer anyone to this place and if he needed to use this type of center again he would never come here.

The rooms at Shelby Nursing Center were clean and spacious, and everybody has their own TV. They have live entertainment coming in. They also do assisted-living there. They have what they call the ice cream social. You go down to the dining room, and there we eat ice cream in cones, or just plain ice cream in a dish. The staff is knowledgeable and personable. They know what they are doing. You can have your own food. They have a fridge. Their food is not bad, but it's institutional. The physical therapy is very good there that's what the place is for.

My relative has been there awhile now. He is a hospice patient who is confined to bed due to cancer. I have seen personally how long it takes to get pain meds, to get a call light answered, stolen items, and a general lack of caring for the most part. I have seen him half off the bed. How long does it take to check on a patient? The nurse/manager has been contacted numerous times as well as the director of nursing and hospice. How long does he have to wait for a bedpan and them to return to finish cleaning him up? How long is a hospice patient supposed to wait for pain meds? How is eat supposed to eat if his food is not cutup since he is paralyzed on one side. Doesn't he have the right to be clean and well cared for?

My father has just recently passed. I had him in the Shelby Nursing Center. The occupational therapy people there were very good. The facility was clean and well maintained. I just felt that the nursing staff was understaffed because when we would hit the button if he needed to use the bathroom, it just took a long time because there were so many patients and not enough nurses' assistants for help. I was not thrilled with the attitude of the staff but it wasn't all of them. It's hard to judge on the whole facility when some of them were bad and some were good and not as cooperative or compassionate. When he needed help eating, there weren't enough people to help in eating than when he needed to go to the bathroom or get dressed. My dad had mental issues and they weren't really good dealing with someone with the later stages of Alzheimer's. I was in the process of trying to find another place for him before he got really sick and back in the hospital.

My mother was in this center & what a huge disappointment. The facilitiy itself was great, food was pretty good & thereapy was excellent. But the aids were rude, lazy & dishonest. The doctors were incompetent. My mother received incorrect meds for a week before I could get them to update her chart. After nearly 2 mos in there, she was in worse shape than ever. We moved her out as soon as possible. Terrible medical attention !

I am a RN. My mother came here from another facility and we had high hopes she would receive the care she needed. The place looks great but don't let that fool you. The physical therapy was very good but limited as to the times she went down. The nursing care is horrible. They immediately put diapers on her when she has never been incontinent. She has tremors and was unable to feed herself or lift and drink from a glass. Even though I spoke with the staff about offering her liquids on a scheduled basis they did not and she became so dehydrated they had to start an IV. One nurse told me she had to crush her pills and put them in pudding because "she took too long to take them and she didn't have time to wait" and also stated she had to drink a lot of water to get them down--which is what she needed. Another told her she couldn't get up due to the IV and she told them she couldn't go on a bedpan so the aide told her she would have to go in her diaper! When I called to see how she was doing that day the nurse didn't know one thing about her even though she had cared for her for 3 hours, using the excuse that she was a float. She still had to know her patient. When she said she would have to check the computer (not the patient) and then call me back in 4 hours I demanded to speak with the manager. In fact, over 2 days I spoke with two different managers and nothing ever improved. Nursing lacked critical thinking skills and didn't really care. Later her blood count dropped and they didn't get the repeated test result until 3AM which required a transfer to the hospital to receive blood. I would not recommend this place at all. They are very poor for patient care. Since our experience I have heard from several other families who had horrible experiences here.

While our experience was not as negative as another posted here, it wasn't particularly positive either. As far as the physical condition of the place, it was wonderful: flat screens in patient rooms; clean smell; large bathrooms; soothing colors and textures; bright, well-lit common areas, but the care given there left much to be desired. Mom was roomed with a woman with echolalia (sp?) (an inability to stop repeating words and phrases) and it kept her from resting well. After a five minute visit, I was ready to pull my hair out! When she developed signs of unresponsiveness, they were very slow in recommending a trip back to the hospital. Mom was in bad shape by the time she left for the ER. Some of the aides were terrific. Some of them seemed almost hostile. The facility is very large and mostly occupied, so personal care might be difficult, but for what they receive in payment, it should be expected. I wouldn't recommend Shelby and would be sure that Mom was sent elsewhere if we find ourselves in the same situation again.

My father was a resident of this facility. The staff did not follow his doctor's recommendations for his diet. Dad said they were not giving him his medication. The staff gave him breakfast which had a banana as part of the meal. They then told him that his potassium was high. If they had not given him the banana it would not have been high. They forgot to give my dad dinner one day. They also ignored his food request. They gave him a sheet to fill out as to what he wanted to eat. Every time he filled it out, they ignored what he put on there. The staff was rude and not willing to help. Dad had and accident and they made him wait in his dirty clothes, I cleaned him up myself. There was a resident in the facility that went into other peoples rooms and stole their dentures. My dad had his stolen while he was sleeping. If family was visiting, the staff got upset. I was fed up with the facility and I had a hard time getting my dad out of there. I will never take a family member to a nursing home again.
