I was a volunteer at this nursing home, as well as a sister and daughter of an employee. The activities that were provided were good, for the budget of the nursing home. They provided a piano, many books, numerous televisions, and women were able to paint their nails. It was a shame that it smelled horrible, and the meals were less than good, but the staff was for the most part very friendly. The residents seemed happy with the living conditions, given the circumstances, and they were very happy that SP NH provided many different activities and many new volunteer faces were happy to be a part of their environment. The rooms were okay in size, and from what I overheard the cost was adequate (but I do feel all nursing homes are overpriced). In the area, there are many nursing homes and assisted living homes, although I did like South Portland Nursing Home, I believe the two assisted living homes in Cape Elizabeth (a 10 min drive) are much nicer with a much nicer outdoor space, although from what I have heard, it is MUCH more expensive.
