The Best Independent Living Communities in Mobile County, AL

"We like Asher Point Independent Living of Mobile the best out of all of them. It was well maintained. Even though it was independent living, they had plenty of activities for seniors to be involved in and plenty of services that were all part of the all-inclusive pricing. So that was very nice and easy. They had plenty of recreational activities, a van that ran all week long to take them to appointments, as well as just recreational stuff to go out and go shopping, and on-site laundry available everywhere the facility. Seven days a week, they provide three meals a day, all included, so it was very nice. They had a choice of what was being prepared. They could choose, so it wasn't just like a cafeteria-style meal; it was more restaurant-like. The staff who assisted us was good, too."

"The Seagrass Village of Daphne was beautiful. They have three sections. They have the villas, which are completely independent. They have apartments, which are independent, but they can get meals. In the villas, you have to cook your own food, but you're welcome to go to the dining room. I'm sure it's for a small price, though. The third section is for assisted living. I only looked at the villas for independent living, and they were very impressive and pretty big. They are in the back of the facility, and they have 2-bedroom and 3-bedroom ones. I looked at the 3-bedroom villas first, and I didn't think they were that much bigger than the 2-bedroom ones. Also, because they have 3 bedrooms, the rooms aren't as spacious. They took me to see the 2-bedroom villas, and I was impressed. They have full kitchens with appliances and everything. Their bathroom is also a good size. They're very nice. I got to meet a number of people from the staff. For anybody who's looking for independent living, I highly recommend the villas. Most of the stuff is located in the apartment area because that's the first thing you see. They have a pool and all the amenities there that you're welcome to use as a resident. The community looks very nice, and they definitely have land to build more villages. The staff members were all very kind and considerate, and they answered all my questions. At the end of the open house, one of them took me to a two-bedroom, because the open house was in a three-bedroom villa. They were very helpful. The facility looks like it's brand new, or at least the villas do. The ones we went in were spotless and fresh. They were still putting together the 2-bedroom one. They hadn't put it in the microwave over the stove, so I'm thinking they are building as they go."

"Somerby of Mobile was nice, and everybody seemed to be very nice. They had assisted living, memory care, and retirement units with patio homes."

"Brookside Senior Living Community was very nice. The person during the tour was excellent, very friendly, and very knowledgeable. The dining area looked very nice. From what I've heard from the other guests, the food was good. I saw some of the results of the crafts that they've done. They have a beauty shop and a little library. The apartment looked very nice and very modern. It's all one-story and it's very small. There are only 16 people in the assisted living, so it's a little homier."

"The staff at Gordon Oaks Senior Living Community was very friendly. It's a large facility, but the halls were rather dim as compared to the other facilities I've been in that were well lit. The Christmas decorations were very nice, but they could've used a little bit more lighting."

"We were considering Westminster. They have independent living, and you can progress to assisted, and from there to whatever is necessary if your health deteriorates. For me, the location was very good. It's convenient to shopping in a small community. It's not like you're in downtown, and doctors are available in the hospital. It's very well kept. I thought the food was bland but necessary for some people's stomachs if they couldn't go out and eat heavy food like restaurants have. The staff was very nice. The rooms were very well maintained. They showed me some apartments they were redoing, and they said they were going to take the carpets out and replace them. I have been to other places that were using carpets that were worse than the ones Westminster was throwing away. "
