I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

We sent my Dad here from the hospital for rehabilitation. As you read this be aware my family has a background in medicine. From the time we walked in the door we found the staff to be uninformed, preoccupied, unhelpful and unfriendly. Just cold and detached. When we felt Dad was having a problem and needed blood work done and maybe some iv fluids we were put off because it was the weekend and no one would contact the doctor to get these things done. Dad had to wait a whole weekend for labs to ordered and done and then another 12 hours before he was given fluids AND an antibiotic for a UTI. He suffered needlessly for the whole weekend. The APRN, who was the go to for the doctor, was cold, indifferent, unhelpful and didn't make much of an effort to help my Dad. It is our opinion her lack of action and indifference in this and other problems lead to our fathers death. When ever he needed help there was never a response until we went to find someone. The whole experience was terrible and frustrating. We spent most of the day with him trying to get him help and being sure he would eat their terrible food. When he wouldn't we brought our own food for him. Even though he was drinking very little and not given fluids for long he was still doing well with his therapies. He arrived as a patient eating, drinking, surprisingly strong, doing his therapies, fairly sound mentally, some confusion at the end of the day and before a month was out he died there. The details to all of this are too long to write here but when it was evident he was going to die staff still brought him his meals on trays, he was left in the room with a roommate who had countless visitors and loud TV. There was a lack of awareness and compassion. We had to ask he be moved to a private room for his last days. In choosing a nursing home be certain a doctor can be reached at all times and staff is responsive.

I am a friend or relative of resident

My father-in-law was a patient at Beechwood twice. I cannot thank this dedicated team of professionals enough for their kind, loving care. The nurses and CNAs cared for him as if he were a member of their family. The therapists worked diligently to enable him to return home. The Social Worker was very helpful to both my father-in-law and his family. The admission and discharge process was surprisingly painless. Thank You to this wonderful, caring Staff. Carol

I am a friend or relative of resident

On several visits to Beechwood I was impressed with the friendliness and caring approach of the staff, and the cleanliness of the facility. For patients and family, convalescence may often be slower than expected. The PT and nursing staff really do their very best to offer hope and reassurance along the way.Thank you for your caring support.

I visited this facility

They didn't hesitate to call family at 8:30am and to ask if we (family) would like to reserve my father in laws bed and pay privately or get rid of bed. Which they called me yesterday about 1:10 pm to say they (nurse) found my Dad(father in law) on the fall short of breathe and panting. They called an ambulance to transport him to the er at Lawrence!!! Day before they call and said they have stats ordered for him, labs and an exray!! Said it would take 4 hours for these, now at four when we showed up the lab company just signed off on his labs at 3:15. Exray company (what a joke!) stat order for his exray! Company is coming from Mass.!!! ( which Beechwood is in New London,Ct.. So when this guy comes finally at 5 pm!! And my Dads supper just arrived!!! Grrr!!! Nursing staff is bad!! Plus staff is something else. Monday night we came to visit when we left my son that is six years old had to go to the bathroom!! Well there was a staff member in there for 15 minutes! Yes 15minutes!!! Which don't know what he was doing in there! Cuz he didn't flush so you can use your own imagination what he was doing in there for 15 minutes !! Very rude staff , no way would I refer family or friends this place, is not a five star!!!!
