"We toured CedarStone Senior Living's independent living community. I liked their food arrangement. They also had a craft room, and I liked to paint, so I liked that. When we toured the apartment, I was not impressed with the size of the living room, as it was really small. Other than that, for the most part, it was okay. The staff members were very friendly. They had a library and a theater, and they had a lot more to offer. They were just a little more expensive than what we were looking at and what we wanted to do, so that was another downer for us."

"Bickford of Cedar Falls' rooms are adequate and seemed nice. They had a rec room and a TV area. The dining area seemed alright, and the staff seemed pretty decent, friendly, and caring. "

"My dad is in Maple Manor Village for rehab. They are taking good care of him for the amount of staff that they have. Everybody's shorttaffed these days. All in all, I would say he's getting good care. I'm a little disappointed that they only do physical therapy once a day for about 30 minutes. It's up to him to push this button and have them come in and get him up to walk. It's a typical nursing home; it's sad. They were trying to do remodeling, and then the pandemic hit. At one point a few weeks ago, there were only like 24 residents, and there were three CNAs with one nurse on each shift. It stretches them a little thin too. He doesn't have any complaints about the food. The cook's takes pretty good care of dad. The reason why we want to get him out of there is because as of today, the rates went up. For moderate care, it's over $1000 a month. His rehab is covered by Medicare and his insurance, which is a wonderful thing. If he would be to become a full time resident, it would be 8000 a month. I think the staff try as hard as they can."

"My mother has moved into Parker Place. It is great. The staff members are tremendous. I have no complaints with them at all. I can email them, I can text them, and I can call them anytime and ask any questions. My mom's room is very spacious. They provided most of the furniture; they provided the bed and the dresser. Because of COVID, I was only allowed in my mother's room once, the day we moved in. It was very clean. The staff member helped me put all of her things away. They helped me unload my car into her room. From what I have seen, I have no complaints. They went above and beyond for the family to help with the transition."

"My mom is in assisted living at Leahy Grove. It is a small town and a small place. It's pretty much for older people at least 80 years or older, so it's not a place I am looking to go. I just want a retirement living. It's very, very nice, but not right now, with COVID. They do a lot with residents. It's a small town, so a lot of people that work there know them all, and the meals are very good. They do a lot with the residents, and they keep them busy. They get them out of their apartment. They don't let them just sit in there. My mom was in the college football and college basketball, and they have a community TV where they've got a whole sports thing and they always turn the TV on for her to that channel whenever she wants to watch. They have some cable in their rooms, but not the sports channel, so they had to get out at least into the community living room with the one big TV. They do a lot for them."

"The place is nice and clean, but their office girl, Jessica is rude and says she is helpful, but really isn't. She likes gossip and talking about others. It was hard to be a family member there. If they would screen their employees better, it would be a better place. But the food is good, the people there are nice, the residents are good, clean people. "

"Cedar Falls Health Care Center's staff is very caring, and they're taking good care of my father-in-law. The residents play bingo and do exercises by moving their arms. The staff treats the residents well, and they have three meals. The staff is taking care of his needs. The staff is very helpful, attentive, and caring. We were there one night, and they brought his supper to his room. "

"The staff is always visible and friendly. At every visit, I see at least 4 different staff members in the halls or reception area. They seem to enjoy their job with the elderly and most residents seem to enjoy their surroundings. This home has many daily activites and they try to get all residents involved as much as possible. Weather permitting, the staff will take groups of residents outside for a stroll in the gardens or simply to sit in the gazebo. The rooms are very clean as well as the residents! Every quarter, family members are invited to a care meeting which provides updates and any concerns. If there are any concerns, they are addressed and followup meetings are scheduled every other week until the concern is taken care of. They also take care of scheduling quarterly Dr's appointments for a general checkup. They notify the family when the appointment is and provide transportation to and from the appointment. They have a wonderful Christmas program and dinner every year. During the festivites, family pictures are offered at no charge. It is a very comforting feeling to know that my Aunt Mary is being taken care of in the way that she deserves! "

"I toured Willow Winds Assisted Living for myself. I was shown the bedroom, the large open dining area, a small library, and then a small room for sitting. I really didn't see much of the facility, and I was really disappointed with it. I did not feel comfortable with this place. The staff who gave me the tour was not very personable. I was just given a very brief explanation on things. Overall, the staff was not open and friendly. They also have no transportation for their residents."

"Windermere offers just about everything a person needs. Right now, it's difficult for them to keep up as far as hiring people for different reasons, but mainly it's because of COVID. Other than that, it is a comfortable place. There are activities here and meals are included in a monthly payment or you can opt to buy if you would like. They have very nice homes to purchase if you would like. They also have a fitness center, a swimming pool, a restaurant, a sports bar, and a lot of activities going on. They have outside pickleball courts that they just built and just a number of items that are beneficial primarily for the independent people."

"My father is currently at Windhaven Assisted Living. He has been there for a year now. It's very clean, and they are watching the residents very closely, with COVID still going on. However, the food leaves something to be desired sometimes, and that would be my only complaint. He has a one-bedroom apartment with a kitchenette. They have a variety of rooms. The staff members are very friendly and very nice. I've had no problems with them at all. They play games, they have musicians come in, and when it's nice (and without COVID), they go for bus rides. We can also visit with him in the building once a week for half an hour."

"We visited Arlington Place of Grundy Center for our mom. It was a nice, clean place that seemed to have people doing their jobs and people were happy. We saw people visiting, putting puzzles together, and talking with each other. They had a little common area for table activities. They also have an enclosed outdoors area, but I didn't see an exercise room. The couple of male staff members were really friendly and seemed to know what they were doing. I would say it's a well-run community."

"The staff at Birdee Cottage Assisted Living & Memory Care was friendly. The place was really home-like, the rooms and the facility itself were very clean, organized, and very welcoming. The rooms were sufficient for what they needed. They told me what the menu was gonna be, which was more home-cooked food, and the cook was very friendly. They specialize in Alzheimer's patients, more so than I think nursing homes do."

"My father has moved into The Rose of Waterloo last week. There is a monthly charge for that and then you get five emergency calls included with that monthly charge. They always wear the emergency pendant and there is a charge for that per month, too. If you need help with things, they have it all listed and what it would cost per hour to have that assistance. They have lunch and dinner seven days a week. There's always a nurse on site, 24/7. They have a calendar of activities like bingo, dominoes, and even some religious types of activities. They have a salon on site, and then they have a community room where a lot of the activities are held. They have a whirlpool bath, but you have to pay extra for that. All the rooms come with a microwave, a stove, a dishwasher, and a refrigerator. They are all 1-bedroom apartments, they don't have studios. They have outdoor parking all around the building and a good number of residents have cars. Some of the residents don't even use the lunches and dinners, so they'd have to do groceries or eat out for breakfast."
