"My mother picked this facility becuase she felt the most comfortable there when she went in, and so far it’s been a good experience. They have a van that takes them out to shops in the area, doctors, and dentists when they need it. They have wheelchair exercises, tos the ball around, word play, and talks and seminars. She said the food is excellent. The room is very nice and spacious."

"The Westmont of Cypress is well divided for different seniors and what their needs are. The food is five-star, and the help is very friendly and very professional. The ones that run it have done a great job to get us signed in and, at a time when we were tight on schedules, they made it happen with the medical field and all the paperwork they needed, and they got my mom in when I needed it. I was very pleased with the whole management of Westmont. The rooms, depending on if you're getting a suite or a single, are beautiful. They're new, they're spotless, kept up weekly, with cleaning services and so forth. It's all very nice. The memory care side has two large buildings split into different needs. My mom is in the memory care building, which has a different number but is still a part of Westmont, right in the same center. For activities, they have walking, games, movies, birthday parties, and different holidays they celebrate with the people there. I'm new at it, so I couldn't say much more right now, but it's got a lot of different classes. They give them DIY projects and little games to play like cards and so forth. Mom is not too active in her memory to do some of the activities but walking, and I think puzzles. They work with her a little bit for memory and recognition with cards and pictures. I think she's limited, as some are. The food is of very good quality, we're very pleased with it, and she's getting 3 meals a day there. They have amenities, but in my mom's memory site, I'm sure some are limited. The other side has a pool and weight rooms. I think the memory one is more on games and walking exercises. The games are to keep their mind sharper. It is a memory care building, so they're not doing other things that could be dangerous to them. The staff is very kind, very professional, gives good information, they're right on top of everything for me, and gives me lots of calls. The price is average for everyone. There are newer facilities which, when you start comparing them with this one, the prices here are within the comfortable rate. All 10 that I interviewed with are within a couple thousand of each other, and this being the newest and more updated, I thought it was very fair."

"Mom has been in this facility for one week and I am very impressed. Staff is consistently cheerful and very helpful. Administration has been supportive with both knowledge and follow-through as we weave our way through new terrain. The food is outstanding! Mom is picky about her food, but cleans her plate at every meal here. Other residents have expressed their enjoyment at living her for long periods of time. We are very glad we found this place! "

"I found the right place for me. Emeritus at Valley View is a place where they feed me and take care of me. It's very good, and I’m pleased. They have a lot of activities, and the staff coordinates them very well. They’re very friendly. If you need the food brought to your room, the kitchen staff will do that for you. The meals were just OK; they weren’t as good as some of the other stuff. They have several bingo games. They have some board games, and they have some trivia. They have a bus that'll take you to shopping and things like that. Their maintenance and up-keep is very good. My room is comfortable. It's just right, and it fits me very well. "

"I really like it here. The staff is great, especially Monica. They really take good care of my mom, Lily. I can sleep good at night knowing she's safe. Also, the food is very good!"

"Home R Us was very nice and clean. The lady there was, I supposed, the one who owns the place. It had pictures of her family all on the wall. The room they showed us could be for two people or one and it was very clean. It was just hot in the room (but those were very hot days, too). The living room had a nice sitting area. It's homey. They only have one big bathroom. The owner was kind of a young woman. She was very sweet and kind. She said they have activities. She didn't specify what they all do, but I saw books lying around and they have a big TV there. They don't have something like taking them out on excursions or anything."

"My sister found Emerald Court, and I just think the people are very nice. It came highly recommended by another person whose parent lives there. It's clean, it's close to home, and the price is good. My mom is very happy there. They have good food, good service. It's a very, very lovely place. I wish they had a little more activity. Mom wanted to play bridge, but there aren't enough people to have another group, so she's out of luck. Her one love is bridge, and she's unable to play, so that's kind of disappointing because one of the major things we wanted is for her to be able to play bridge twice a week, and they're full. She has her own apartment. Her bed looks small in the room. There's so much room. I stayed one day, and it was lovely, and they were very accommodating. The first week, they let me stay free, but if you go, it's $10 a meal. The food is excellent. What's really neat about them is their kitchen is always open. You can go anytime you want 24 hours a day, but there are certain things you cannot have at all times. They always have sandwiches, or if they want ice cream, or if they want a grilled cheese sandwich or a turkey sandwich, but not like when they do their prime rib or their special lasagnas. You can't get those in the middle of the night, but they always have coffee, tea, and juices there for them. They are always free to go and sit there anytime. We chose Emerald Court because they call us. They let us know if Mom is out roaming the halls. They take pictures to show us that she really is at the party. She'll say she didn't go to any party. Then we'll see pictures on their website. She is right there, having fun, and you can see she's laughing. You always have access, and they have a website you can always go on, and it's neat. They're open 24 hours. I can go in anytime I want, and everyone is saying hi to each other. It's beautiful. They know their people by name, and I'm very, very impressed. My mom's place is much nicer and bigger. a 1-bedroom apartment with huge closet space. She has her own patio for her dog. Her front door opens out to this big, green, garden-like court. It's about a quarter of a football field. They have umbrella chairs and lots of trees. Her front window with her kitchen looks right out into this beautiful water fountain. It's gorgeous. I wouldn’t mind living there. I wish it had a pool. I would use a pool, however they are elderly and they may not use a pool. They're having an Internet café-type computer spot, and they're changing the front lobby where they can go, read, and use the Internet. "

"I toured Beach Terrace Assisted Living & Memory Care. It was bright with lots of natural sunlight. The interior, the way it was decorated was beautiful. The common space was huge. It just feels so welcoming. I saw the menu and it looked like a menu at a restaurant. What was on the menu was pretty interesting, like salmon, asparagus, squash, and stuff like that. I saw a shared room. It was nice. I like the semi-private room, and the room on each side was huge. You can really put a six-seating dining room table and a full-size bed. The shared bathroom was in between and they had doors from each side of the room for the bathroom. They had a big picture window. The staff was so gracious. He was so informative. The tour was guided by the guy who worked there, but the guy that I already had was the one who took me. He was the one who was already familiar with the place, and between what I heard and what I saw, I was more impressed with Beach Terrace."

"We looked at Rowntree Gardens. The staff was nice. We liked the apartment a lot better than other places we visited. It had a lot more space. However, it was a little too old for me. Nevertheless, the activities were OK, and the apartments were nice. "

"Ivy Park at Seal Beach thought Mom might do okay in assisted living, so I viewed an assisted living space because they indicated that they had some memory care patients who were kind of still pretty high functioning, but I visited the memory care also. It was a beautiful facility, but it was very large and Mom would have had her own room there with a shower in it. She needs assistance with showering and I didn't feel like they could keep a proper eye on her, and I felt like she might get lost in that facility. When I went up to memory care on the third floor, there was no outdoor space whatsoever, and all of the residents there seemed to be way lower functioning than my mom. The staff was great. They were wonderful and very engaging. It looked like a resort in there. It was beautiful. It was clean. Everything about it was great, just the concern about the memory care. The dining area for the assisted living was gorgeous. It looked like a restaurant. They were served almost like at a restaurant, where they would have a few choices. I feel like the memory care was kind of lacking in activities and things. It could have been the time of day that I was there, but they weren't engaging the residents at all. I just felt like my mom needed to have stimulation. That wouldn't have been a good fit because at some point she would end up in memory care."

"As a resident of two years,and a highly educated person, I am fully disappointed in how this administration is as phoney as I have ever experienced. I also find them wholly unqualified to deal with residents, problems, outcomes. There is no follow through or any explanations as to why not. The lack of conscious thinking or acting is appalling. This is no place I would ever send a loved one. "

"I toured Ivy Park at Fullerton, and there is nothing I didn't like about it. It was beautiful in every way. It seemed like a wonderful place and beautifully furnished. Everything was attractive, and there was lots of bright light. Many people gathered in one of the rooms, interacting with someone doing an activity with them. The dining room was gorgeous. Everybody seemed friendly and happy to be there, and a good number of people working around."

"Emeritus at Garden Manor was kind of dated. It probably could have been redecorated. My impression of it was that there were really a lot of older people. The rooms were small. However, the staff was amazing. It was kind of a tough time for us at that time, but they were so supportive, and they really tried to be objective in finding the best place for my sister. What stands out to me was that you can have your own car, but they also had good transportation, and they were willing to take you anywhere you want to go. The facility was near shopping, and it was in a nice area. The surroundings seemed safe and accessible. "
