"Our experience with Synergy was truly wonderful. We employed them to provide an aide for our 89-year-old mother who was staying with us for the summer. Our mom needed an aide that was more of a companion...someone who was mentally stimulating and engaging as well as helpful with daily living activities. Synergy found two such women who were absolutely fabulous. I plan on using them again when our mom returns next summer! "

"We are doing seven days a week with Amada Senior Care Roxbury, NJ. The owner was here this morning to check everything out. They also came out to the hospital to meet us before we made a decision. They've been efficient all the way through. I have two caregivers, one person on the weekend and one person during the week, and they're both excellent. They're very caring. They pitch in where they're needed, and I don't even have to ask, so it has been a very good experience. When someone is very, very ill, you need that kind of support. Because my spouse is incontinent, they make sure he is clean. They shave him, and they make sure his hair is cut. They make sure he is comfortable with the bed settings, and they make sure his skin is good. He has a very severe foot problem, so they make sure the pillows are right. They provide general care for him all around."

In-Home Care Overview: Seniors Helping Seniors Eastern Union and Essex Counties of New Jersey At Seniors Helping Seniors®, we believe care is most meaningful when it’s built on connection. As a husband-and-wife team, we launched our agency to bring compassionate, in-home support to older adults in Union and Essex Counties—delivered by mature adults who truly understand the journey. Our story begins with our parents. For years, they’ve quietly served others—driving neighbors to appointments, preparing meals, offering companionship. Watching them, we saw the power of kindness in action. That’s what inspired us to turn our personal values into professional purpose. After decades in corporate leadership and caregiving roles, we (Matt and Erin Eckard) felt called to build something lasting in the community we now call home. Seniors Helping Seniors® stood out to us for its heart-centered approach: matching active senior caregivers with those who could use a helping hand and a friendly face. We know that choosing care for a loved one can feel overwhelming. That’s why we’re here—to offer not just services, but genuine support. Our caregivers are carefully matched for personality, interests, and experience, creating relationships that go far beyond a checklist. Whether it’s help with daily tasks, companionship, or specialized support, our team is committed to helping seniors live with dignity, independence, and joy—from the comfort of home. We’re proud to serve families across Eastern Union and Essex Counties, and we’d be honored to support yours.

"We're using Generations for my mom. The girl who came to do the preliminaries was a nurse and she's very nice. She told me that they have classes for the home health aides that they must take. It's all run by nurses, so they're very good. They also give home health aides a book on what to talk about so that the people that they're servicing don't get bored during downtime."

Given the high cost of in-home care, many people use one or more forms of financial assistance to cover the expenses. Below, we explain some of the most common sources of financial help for paying for in-home care. If none of these options are available to you, you can reach out to your Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about local resources.
Home care services are only one of the pieces needed for seniors to gracefully age in place. There are many services and programs that are low-cost or free, that enable seniors to enjoy an independent lifestyle in the comfort of their own home, such as help with home modifications, meal delivery services, and more. Below, we’ve compiled a few of the most helpful resources in Morristown:
| Resource | Contact | Address | Service |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program | 1 (800) 510-3102 | 45 Clyde Potts Ct., Morristown, NJ 07960 | The federally funded LIHEAP helps low-income people pay their cooling and heating bills. Credit received via LIHEAP can be applied directly to the applicant’s electric company account or issued as a check. Applying for LIHEAP also allows Morristown residents to automatically apply for the related Universal Service Fund, which lowers gas and electric bills for those eligible. Income and usage requirements apply. |
| Weatherization Assistance Program | (609) 984-1947 | 95-97 Bassett Hwy, Dover, NJ 07801 | Funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and staffed by local community-based organizations, New Jersey’s Weatherization Assistance Program helps low-income citizens update their homes to increase energy efficiency. Services include caulking and installing new windows and insulation. Available at no cost to those who qualify, the program can help low-income families reduce their energy costs by approximately $400 a year. Senior and disabled residents receive priority when determining eligibility. |
| Morristown Meals on Wheels | (973) 532-2706 | PO Box 1706, Morristown, NJ 07962 | The nonprofit Meals on Wheels organization is staffed by volunteers who bring hot meals directly to homebound people. Any Morristown resident who is not able to cook for herself, has a physical disability or is actively in recovery from illness is eligible to participate in the program. Payments are on a sliding scale and can be waived if necessary. |
| Morris Habitat for Humanity | (973) 891-1934 | 274 S Salem St #100, Randolph, NJ 07869 | The local Habitat for Humanity chapter provides aging-in-place support for seniors 62 years of age or older. Organization volunteers, directed by official Habitat for Humanity staff, perform home upgrades that make it easier for seniors to navigate their surroundings. Such upgrades can include widening doorways, installing safety bars in bathrooms and adding accessibility ramps to porches. |
| Morris County Adult Protective Services | (973) 326-7282 | 340 West Hanover Avenue, Morris Township, PO Box 900, Morristown, NJ 07963-0900 | Morris County’s APS agency works to ensure the safety of vulnerable adults in the area by looking into reports of exploitation, neglect or abuse. Reports should contain a specific allegation and be provided by a person with direct knowledge of the suspected mistreatment. All communications involved in the process are fully confidential. |
Aging can be a difficult process, and loved ones may not always ask for help – oftentimes it’s up to their family to evaluate their need for help around the house. While no two situations are exactly alike, this checklist can help you and your loved ones determine when it’s time to start the search for a home care provider.

If you’ve determined that your loved one needs the assistance of a care provider in their home, it may be time for a difficult conversation. Handled correctly, however, this process can bring a family together and ensure that everyone’s concerns are addressed. Use this PDF as a starting point to help the conversation stay as positive and productive as possible.
