Elant at Wappingers Falls is a wonderful facility that has been nothing but hospitable to my grandmother. It is spacious, cozy, and offers the elderly a dignified life despite sacrificing their independence. The staff is exemplary. My experience with them has been brief, but even in my short stays at Elant they have tried to accommodate me to the best of their ability. My grandmother tells me this is nothing out of the ordinary. She claims that they are almost excessively attentive and she is never left wanting something for very long. It doesn't hurt that the premises is gorgeous, either. It is located in the heart of the village of Wappingers and features beautiful landscaping and an immaculate building. Everything inside is very clean and orderly, and the rooms are quite comfortable. Again, my experience with Elant has been fleeting yet positive, but I know my grandmother would not hesitate to recommend Elant at Wappingers to anyone in the area who is considering an assisted-living facility.

Yesterday we were told my grandmother needed to be transferred to Hospice and had less than a month to live. We were asked at the hospital to chose 5 of our top choices for Hospice. Unsure and unresearched we chose Elant, Wappingers Falls as our #1 choice, as I live and work within walking distance of their facility. I had run past their location numerous times and was always unimpressed by the staff outside smoking cigarettes and the patients in wheelchairs placed in the front unsupervised, but at this point, in our final decision for her life, we were looking for somewhere close we could spend as much time as possible with her. Upon leaving the hospital, we stopped at the Elant as a family, on Sunday, taking a chance on seeing the facility. We were stopped immediately at the door by the "supervisor" who said we were unable to enter and look at the facility. It wasn't until we mentioned we were private pay, that she asked for a moment and could consider giving us a tour. She left us in the "waiting room" (dusty, un-vacuumed, unattended) for 20 minutes to return saying she asked if she could give us a tour and they said no. I then proceeded to ask to speak to the supervisor as we were making my grandmothers transfer TOMORROW and without seeing the facility, it was a decision we were uncomfortable making ( especially given our experience up to this point). She disappeared again, and we glimpsed in the window into the hall way to see 5 people in wheelchairs, lined up against the wall, unattended, one of which was pulling on a dirty garbage can with her hand halfway in in to pull herself around the corner of the hallway. She returned, and by that point, we had very clearly made up our minds, but said to us " I'm sorry, I am the supervisor and I cannot give you a tour on Sunday, I got in trouble once before. But we can accommodate your grandma, since she is private pay, and the hospital can send over her paperwork". Needless to say. My impression of Elant from the outside, passing by on my morning and afternoon runs, down to the final decision of where my grandmother will spend the last few weeks of her life. This is certainly not the place. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE.
