My husband was at The Timbers of Cass County for six weeks for physical therapy. The reception area was very nice. It was well decorated, and they have a person on duty there at the front all the time. The doors are locked all the time, but the person on duty opens and closes it. My husband and I didn't like it. It was the only thing available at the time, and we didn't know any different. It's close to our home. There's not enough attention to the patients. I don't think they're very well- staffed. The patients waited a long time for a response. I was not happy with that. The room was small, and there were two patients in there. There wasn't room to move around, and he was in a wheelchair. They lost quite a few of his clothing items, even though they all had their name on it. He came home with much less than what he went over there with. The food was not good at all. There was no choice. You got what you got, and if you didn't like it, you went hungry. They did not even have a protein drink like Ensure. I had to take things in for him. There were very few nurses and aides who were excellent. The majority of the nurses seemed overworked and stressed. Any nurse who was in there, about the only thing it appeared they were doing was dispensing the meds. I never saw a nurse doing bedside care, pushing a wheelchair, or doing anything with the patient. It's all left up to the aides to do all the patient care. My husband had cellulitis in his legs, and his legs had to be cleaned and dressed, not with clothes, but with a dressing and medication every day. He had yeast infections, and that was not addressed daily. I brought it to their attention. That was not a pleasant place to be. The food was very industrial. No variety, no condiments available, no variety in beverages. It was milk, coffee, or water. Cleanliness and maintenance seemed in order. I didn't see anything that would concern me. It's an old place, and they did as much as they could with it. I never did see anything like activities or anything mentally stimulating, other than a television. There was a little room that had books in it, like a shelf of books that you could borrow, and it wasn't good. It was more than what the other place would have cost for assisted living. It was a medical wing, but it wasn't giving any medical attention to speak of, other than the physical therapy. My husband said they didn't have any equipment to speak of. They just had hand weights and stretchy bands and the simple things, but there were no stationary bicycles or a treadmill or anything like that, no equipment at all.

My sister is at The Timbers of Cass County. I've never tasted the food. I bring stuff in because they never have a problem with me bringing stuff. The facility is very clean. I think the price is too high based on the income of everybody in the world, which has nothing to do with the business. It's just how it is overall with nursing homes.
