I visited this facility

We visited Fox Hill Village. We liked the people we met there, we liked the apartment that was available and we liked the food. The staff is very professional and friendly. It's a two-bedroom apartment, living room and kitchen. We just had lunch there about six weeks ago. I can't remember exactly what I ate, but it tasted good. And we think that's very important because we're going to be eating a lot of meals there. The dining area was very nice, with linen tablecloths, nice and bright with big windows and it was quiet. The acoustics were good. They have a gym and a barbershop.

I went to Fox Hill Village. I have friends there who are members of my church. It's quite large, maybe 400 residents. It is very elegant and has fine dining, lots of activities from gardening to singing, art, and woodworking. You name it, they got it. They're adding assisted living there. It's very expensive.

Provider Response

Hello Max: We appreciate your feedback and 5-star rating of Fox Hill Village. As you experienced, we offer residents an array of activities and amenities to support opportunities for growth, learning and fulfillment. And, we will continue to evolve to meet the needs of independent-minded, self-determined older adults. We hope you will visit again soon. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I was very impressed with Fox Hill Village. I think they're wonderful, but I think their apartments are too much money. The apartments were lovely. The staff was wonderful. The place was immaculate. The people were nice. It's anything anybody would want. I only dealt with one person, and she was wonderful. The facility is beautiful, it is clean, and it is immaculate. I was very impressed.

Provider Response

I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

The rooms are really very nice, roomy apartments that residents furnish with their own possessions. Many interesting and entertaining activities and trips for both shopping and entertainment, many common spaces to have visitors or entertain family, a couple of hotel-like rooms for out of town guests to rent for very reasonable charge. Library, outside walking path, benches, very nice dining room and cafe, options for taking out dinner too, medical office on site with MD visits and nurse practitioner, very professional and kind. The biggest negative that we experienced was the casual attitude of the social work & assisted living staff to recommend/require a resident have “24-hour care” or leave Fox Hill Village. Not only is this a huge financial burden that may force a resident to leave their home, but takes away whatever independence they may be perfectly able to maintain. A single fall, not uncommon for the elderly, will trigger over-the-top interference in that resident’s life. If you can avoid assisted living, do so by hiring part time help, or keep a low profile. Many of the aides are wonderful, but a few have expectations that aren’t reasonable for the elderly who need some help. This is a great place to live as long as you are pretty independent. Financial benefit is that you get any price appreciation when your unit is sold, not typical for most facilities.

Fox Hill was very expensive; you need to pay $17,000 for a parking garage and $15 a month for maintenance of the garage. That's ridiculous. The grounds were very nice. It didn't look like they had a lot of activities, and the staff looked very serious. I wouldn't feel comfortable there at all.

Our visit at Fox Hill Village was very good. We liked its location. The setting was very nice. The staff was very good and very helpful. They spoke about a fitness club, a pool, and some of the activities with the residents. It looked interesting, but it was too expensive and too fancy. Also we didn't like the size or the layout. We found it too fancy.

Fox Hill Village is an upscale community. It's closer to one of my children. This is a relatively new facility. They have independent living, assisted living and a nursing home. There's also a pool, a gym, a library and so forth.

I visited this facility

I went and visited Fox Hill Village. Its location was absolutely perfect for me because it was in the town where my son lives. I like that whole place very much except I found out that the one-bedroom apartment was a little bit confining and it didn't have enough space. Also the facility didn't have a swimming pool which was important to me.

ln total we had a long term relationship with Fox Hill. My mom was in a waiting list for a year. She lived there for 9 years. From the beginning, they were very particular about details and asking good questions. It was clear that they were professional. The facility always looked great and secure. The thing that I like best about Fox Hill is the individual attention and care that they gave my mom. They go out of their way to help her. They would call me if there was an issue. They're very impressive.

The location of this facility is good"”in Westwood, right off a main highway, and close to a hospital. It's in a suburb, but with easy access from most places, and offers plentiful parking in a big lot. Fox Hill offers a number of kinds of care and housing under one roof"”from independent living to skilled nursing care and rehab, although there is no specific memory care program. The building is pretty and although older, is maintained well. The common areas seem comfortable and welcoming for residents to use. In fact, it's an active social place"”and many day trips are offered for shopping and cultural events in the community. The individual rooms, which residents can furnish on their own, are a good size. Some residents say not so great things about the food, but options are offered daily. Most of the staff is good with good communication, and the social worker seems to know personal things about residents and to engage with them easily. The one problem I've seen is that some residents who have been put in skilled nursing are frustrated because they want to go back to assisted living, but are not allowed to do so. It's tough to know the truth about whether their conditions truly require more skilled"”and more expensive"”care. But there should be more clear communication on this issue. The assisted living unit seems best for higher functioning residents, because there is an emphasis on social activities and also a wellness clinic. If more care is required, families often end up private paying for it, causing an uptick in the cost of care. Overall, residents must have a good amount of cash to live here, but the administration also seems willing to work with residents and negotiate with families for payment.

About Fox Hill Village in Westwood, Massachusetts

We’re proud of the fact that Fox Hill Village is New England’s premier adult retirement community. We offer our residents the best in independent living situated in a beautiful setting that is enhanced by an array of services and amenities. Our unique cooperative structure also offers residents many of the benefits of home ownership with none of the hassle and worry.

Founded in 1990 in partnership with Massachusetts General Hospital, our “Village” was carefully planned to offer homeowners a comprehensive approach to retirement living. Our distinctive building features 340 resident-owned apartments that surround a village commons. Our village commons was designed to mirror the accommodations of a traditional main street, with a variety of services and recreation options, such as a bank, hair salon, variety store, library, greenhouse, fitness center, card and hobby rooms, and a 200-seat auditorium for movies, performances, and cultural events. Every home is only steps away from the “center of town” and you never need to step outside to enjoy all the comforts of village life. Our community also offers onsite health services through Massachusetts General Hospital.

Our village is made complete with our very active, involved, and friendly residents. You’ll meet neighbors from all professions and with all points of view. Fox Hill Village links neighbors together, encourages independent living, and lets you control your own life in a private and secure environment.

With a strong capital reserve fund, a forward-thinking management team, and the active voices and participation of our residents, Fox Hill Village is well-positioned to evolve and meet the needs and tastes of our residents and future generations, including Baby Boomers. Fox Hill Village residents not only enjoy all the comforts of maintenance-free living, but also reap the rewards of an innovative cooperative organization. Cooperative ownership combines the advantages and pride of home ownership with the convenience of community living—offering residents both a secure lifestyle and a unique financial investment.

As a resident of Fox Hill Village, you are purchasing a share of ownership in the entire community and making an investment in living well. As a shareholder, you have equal voting status in electing the board of directors, which is comprised mostly of residents, and in approving the annual operating budget.

There’s also a substantial difference to cooperative ownership as compared to the entrance-fee models of other adult communities. While other communities offer residents only a 90 percent return on their original contribution, Fox Hill Village offers you the opportunity for potential asset appreciation by providing you with 90 percent of the sale price.

Further, living at Fox Hill Village is typically more affordable than at other communities. Our monthly fees are traditionally lower because our cost of services comes without markup to residents. Fox Hill also pays no management fees or dividends to outside stockholders. As shareholders, residents also are eligible for tax advantages associated with mortgage interest and real estate tax payments.

Fox Hill Village lets you control you own life in a private and secure setting at a lower cost than other adult communities while offering significant financial and tax advantages.
