"This is the best place to live when you cant be at home on your own anymore. The staff are always wanting to make your stay here feels like home as best as they can, giving lots of things to do and choices for food. The therapy staff is making sure that everyone stays active. I was in the rehab area first and then moved to long term care. I think they have a very good program and would recommend coming here for short term rehab and if you cant go home, staying is the next best option. "

"We chose Wesley Village Retirement Center for my mom. Everyone is very caring, and the place is very nice. She has a nice bedroom. The staff is very nice and very helpful. The memory care side is very clean and it doesn't smell. My mother is eating better than before. She participates in the activities, and they have an activity person that does things with them."

"My mother is a resident at Grand Prairie. At the time we were looking around they were very helpful and understanding of the step we were having to take. The day we went for a visit they had 3 of the residents meet us at the door and welcome us. They then gave us a tour of the facility and the rooms. The also gave us a free meal. They also have 2 beautifuI porches for them to set on in the summer time, a big dining area. I would recommend Grand Prairie where they are all like A big family."

"My grandparents are in Heritage House. It is near the hospital. They have activities, cook, and go out. The staff seems to be helpful. They have a bus and an area where they can watch television."

"Hancock Village is really a beautiful place to go. The people there are very caring and understanding of the elderly. The apartments were very nice, they were put together well, and they seemed to be a perfect size for a senior person. For activities they play bingo and they have church activities. When the COVID was not there, they took bus trips, and they had activities every day. They take them to doctors appointments and they also schedule doctor appointments. They were actually very good with helping about financial matters."

"The staff is pleasant. The P.T dept. is very good and the meals are good. The problem lies with the fact that they have few workers to take proper care of patients, The administration makes sure they have a very nice and comfy office as all administration's do. The facility is not the same, clean and nice facility that it once was. It seems a bit dirty, that nursing home smell is there. Another issue is that some of the CNA's have no social graces and lack any intelligence. I realize it is a very difficult job but if a person can't handle it don't go into it. Some staff talk down to residents as if they were beneath them or were 2 yr. olds in need of discipline. I want to remind them they are not the resident's mother's and to try to use resect. Surely, someone has taught them. The residents may wait some time to go to the bathroom and they may ask for a simple aspirin and never get it. The rivalry between shifts goes on like immature idiots.Patients in this home and many like it are more likely to experience serious blood-borne infections. and airborne infection since they seem to lack good hygiene skills.Not all but many. They do a lot of covering up for errors as most nursing homes and many hospitals do. I don't actually see too many people getting better. It certainly hasn't happened in the case of my wife. Actually, she was worse. The phrase “respect your elders” is ingrained in most minds at a young age. This phrase, however, has been lost somewhere. A lack of respect for the elderly is especially present in the quality of health care they receive. Despite this issue, the current law mandating a number of necessary workers in nursing homes does little to improve the situation. It states, “The facility must have sufficient nursing staff to provide nursing and related services to attain or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental, and psychological well-being of each resident as determined by resident assessments and individual plans of care” (Miranda, 2005). This statement is very ambiguous and leaves much to the interpretation of the administration of each nursing home, resulting in many situations of insufficient staffing. A severe problem with this task falling in the hands of the administration lies in the fact that “among administrators, very few are certified, and without qualified leadership quality initiatives are harder to sustain” (Clemmit, 2006, p. 849). Also, many nursing homes do not want to pay and ensure additional employees. Instead, they choose to run their staff on the bare minimum. It is clear that some sort of policy change is extremely necessary."

"I liked Kensington a lot, and I liked the people. I liked the setting -- it was downtown. It was very nice, the food looked good, they had activities, the rooms were nice, the staff was nice, and it was in a good location. They had activities and services on-site. It would have been a good choice for my mother. They just didn't have any room. "

"I would recommend Heartland of Galesburg to anyone need skilled nursing. I was in real bad shape when I arrived but with the help of the nurses and therapy I am up walking independently, eating, and enjoying life. The care is wonderful here and the staff is very attentive. Of course like most people I have favorites but the staff are truly caring. The therapy was the best I have ever seen. I received therapy services every day and they knew what I needed to be able to do to get back home. They created a plan that was specific to my needs and my capabilities and continued to raise the bar for me to get me to the point I needed for home. "
