I visited someone at the Murray Hill Commons senior apartments in Jacksonville. One of the members of my church stays there, and I've been in her unit. It's nice and spacious. They seem to be making sure the elderly are taken care of and making sure everything is good for them. The area is clean. They keep it up. She also did not complain about any of the people there. She gets along really well with her neighbors. They have a barber shop and a little shopping store that they can go in and shop right there on the premises. They have their own little church, too. They also have a little place where they can get their hair done. The tour was great. They have very good people. It wasn't negative or anything like that. They just let you know how the place was run and how to qualify. The person who gave the tour was maybe a little hostile, though. People have their own emotions about how to deal with something, but it's more of a personal perspective for that individual. The people living there seemed to be cool and weren't complaining. They were just walking around doing what they do on their day. They have great activities. They were having a sale where they were selling clothes and items that the residents wanted to get rid of. It's like a garage sale or something like that.

I lived at Florida Christian Apartments. Everything was perfect except for the person who was in charge of the place. She was doing some really underhanded stuff, and I called her on it. She was really a dirty person. I had quit smoking about six months before she and I had a conversation. She said, "We should have a mutual agreement to call the lease off," and that she wouldn't put me down as smoking inside the building. I said, "I don't even smoke. How can you even say that?" She said, "That's my word against yours, and they will believe me." That would put me on a list for seven years that I wouldn't be able to live in a Section 8 building, so I took the easy way out and had a mutual agreement to just move away from there. She really messed me up because that was the only place that I had found where everything was perfect except for her. I would highly recommend the community, but if she's still there, I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. I would say 90% of the people I met were just phenomenal. They have an activities director. She's the best in the world. She is a super, super sweet person. She is just a lot of fun to be around, and she is encouraging. They have so many activities at your disposal. Weekly, they would take you to the stores. It's the perfect place, and it was perfect for me, but I couldn't live with someone who had a grudge against me because I called them out on some stuff that shouldn't be done. Everybody but that lady was so friendly and so willing to help in any way they could. They also had an advocate there with limited authority, and she was fantastic at her job. They don't have a dining area or anything. It's individual apartments. They have food trucks and vegetable trucks that come around weekly. As far as the activities and the availability of stuff, it's a great place. I would recommend it to anybody who could tolerate her. If something happens or something goes wrong, you let them know, and they will get somebody there immediately. The condition of the place is really in top condition. Most of the activities are geared toward all church activities and stuff like that. However, they also have other activities like the 'silver sneakers' thing, and they do aerobics for the older folks. They have their own little workout rooms. It is really top-notch because it has exercise bikes, and light weights, and stuff like that. So if you want to stay in shape, you can definitely do that there. For what I paid there, it was well worth the money.

I will move into the Florida Christian Apartments. It's for seniors and the disabled. The rent goes according to my income, and that worked out well, and I didn't have to pay much. They have a lot of things for us to do here. We have little stores downstairs, we have a game room, we have chess, and we have gardening. They have shows and bingo. They have a lot of activities within the building. Once you go outside, they have a lot of nice restaurants, and there are little stores right across the street. The staff member who gave the tour was very polite. She gave me every detail, and she guided me until it was time to move with all the paperwork. When I came to pick up the keys, she showed me everything, explained everything, and gave me a lot of documents so that I could look at them in case I forgot any details. She was very, very nice and very helpful. They don't provide meals here. This is more for the independent. However, they have a salon, a mini market downstairs, and a thrift store.
