"I liked Brookdale Bakersfield because the residents could just walk around the park-like setting in the middle of a circular path. The place where they hold their activities was nice. They have a two-hour window where they could eat at their leisure in the dining area. "

"I toured Solstice Senior Living at Bakersfield. The rooms were smaller, and the staff in the cafeteria was not as pleasant as the staff in the kitchen at the other facility. The food was good, but the service was a little slow. The staff who gave the tour was nice. The upkeep was nice."

"Ivy Park at Seven Oaks was outstanding. It's beautifully clean and the staff was wonderful. The residents were very friendly. I was able to talk with them quite a bit. They were allowed to bring their dog, and I think that is fundamental when you're older. They were very attentive to everyone too."

"It was nice. They gave me a complete tour, and they even introduced me to the staff. They were all very kind and very nice. The rooms were set up very well. The facility was clean and laid out very well. The rooms come out into the main area, the dining area, and the recreation area. There are no hallways."

"My mom moved into the memory care of Brookdale Riverwalk. It was a good experience, from the administrator all the way down to the staff members. I have met several of them, and I have been in close contact with the administrator of the memory care, Martha. They have answered all of our questions, and they have offered safe visiting for family members during COVID. They have individual designated spaces where you can bring your family, and they have appointments for these times, so it's not overrun in the facility. They have so many activities, and the activity director sends out calendars that let you know exactly what they are eating. They had that online, and if they see that the patient is not tolerating the food, they immediately check with the doctor to see if they can change them to a different type of diet. It's really been a good experience. My mom is a picky eater, and she has a denture issue, so they switched her to puree, and she's eating it just as well as regular food. She enjoys her food. I have seen her with juice and some snacks, and then her dinner. It's worth every penny that my parents have put aside to take care of it."

"My brother is at Arvin Post Acute. The place is clean and has physical therapists and occupational therapists right there at the center. He also likes the food. However, we really had a rocky start with the staff. He was hospitalized twice in the first week he was there. They were not on top of his needs for his diabetes, and part of it, I believe, is the nursing staff, and part of it is probably the doctor's response. It just took a few weeks to get the nurses to understand what his needs were and to accommodate them. It kind of feels like there was a lack of experience with the nursing staff. My brother can at least advocate for himself, although sometimes he can't. I am not sure about how they navigate when a patient can't advocate for themselves and state what their needs are. It's just kind of concerning that we probably need more hands on deck there. I don't know the experience extent of the staff, but it kind of felt like it was more of a training ground. The nursing station is centrally located, so all of the hallways are right there. I like that they have physical therapy on-site. They also provide my brother with transportation for his dialysis, which is only just two minutes away from the facility. We've had some problems with that one time when he had to wait about two hours for his ride to get back to the nursing home. One time, one of the nurses also had to wheel him there in his wheelchair because there was no transportation, so that's kind of iffy. We can't really depend on it 100%."

"Cobble Stone Residential Home Care was very nice and clean. They got a friendly and competent staff. The room they had was nice, open, and furnished. Everything was well taken care of. What I liked the most about it was it was a home and not a facility. It had a small number of residents, so I liked it better."

"My mother is in Jasmin Terrace at Bakersfield. It's bigger than it looks from the street. From the street, it looks very small, but it goes back in a big triangle and has a kind of courtyard in the center of it. It's very simple. It's not a fancy place. It's very clean. They come in and sweep and mop and dust my mom's apartment every day. The staff is extremely friendly. She has a pull cord, and when she pulls it, they come right away and assist her to go to the restroom. They bring her meals to her room. She has a lot of difficulty walking. They would wheel her to the dining room if she wanted to go, but she didn't want to. I know they offer bingo. They offer certain movies in the dining hall. They offer wheelchair aerobic kind of things. They've been just extremely good to her. It's not perfect, but I feel really good about them. It's very good. She's very happy to be there."

"I just moved into Pinewood Glen Senior Retirement Community in Bakersfield. I chose the place because it was very affordable and they serve three meals a day. They have a dining room area for that or they serve you in your room. They have a very good weekly menu served at your door for the whole week. The food is tasty and very healthy. They allow pets, too. They're just friendly people and I could come and go as I please. The staff who assisted me during my move was very informative. She also filled out all the papers because I can't see in my left eye. She explained all the procedures and everything that I was signing. My apartment is a studio. It has a microwave and a refrigerator. It's unfurnished, so you have to bring your own furniture. It has a walk-in shower and a pretty nice bathroom with enough room for a wheelchair. As far as I know, they have bingo three days a week in the afternoon hours. They also have a puzzle group and a chapel, which is good."

"Summer Springs Board and Care is really good. It's managed by a family and the people that run it lives on site. It's owned by a couple, an RN and a physical therapist. The in-laws are the licensed caregivers. It's very family-oriented. When dad gets restless, they take him for a ride in a car or takes him to their house for a little while and gives him the change of scene. It's not as fanciest, but they really care about the people. They never know when I'm coming because I go different days and different hours. They have stationary bike and he rides that, he can go for a walk, and they play games with him. They bathe him and make sure he's clean. He's eating and he's happy. They bring him to church on Sunday. He gets two free rides to doctors during the month, and that's unusual. They do the laundry. I told them I'll take the laundry I'm going to do it, and they do it. So I can't believe how bless I was to find them. They kept their word on everything. So I'm very happy. "

"Hallmark of Bakersfield is excellent all the way around. Good environment, the people are friendly, and they are very excellent caretakers. They have very good food and a really excellent cook. They have a lot of activities -- like they do parties for different holidays, and they have Bingo and other games, and a bus that takes them out. They do something every day. My friend really likes it there. She likes how the workers take time in helping and assisting her as well as the friendly atmosphere of the place. "

"My grandmother was relocated to this facility after her long-term care proved to be too much of a burden on my mother and I, about a year ago. At first we were uneasy about the level of care given to each patient by the resident nurses, being minimal or at worst nonexistent. However this was soon put to ease by the level of professional care and personal service each nurse provided for our family member. The rooms in California Care are mostly spacious, equipped for hospital beds and with enough space to personalize for longer periods of stay. All of the staff is polite, paying attention to any specific requests the patients have. The main facility is kept clean and in good order and visiting hours are decent. The grounds are somewhat small but the main building is set back far from the road so traffic noise is decreased enough to give an atmosphere of comfort. My mother and I have no worries that my grandmother will not receive the utmost care and dignity at this facility. "
