"We live in The Jefferson. It's fine, the activities, the living arrangements, the food. The food is good. The location is very nice. They have a library, gym, and pool. The rooms are just fine. They've got exercise, entertainment, arts and crafts, and games. They can improve the food and food preparation."

"I toured Vitality Living Arlington. The rooms were the right space. The diet accommodations were good. It's clean. People were friendly. The staff who assisted me, Vicki was her name, she was very knowledgeable and understanding. She talked me through many different aspects of it, so that was helpful. People were eating, and there were people in the open foyer visiting. We went through the arts and crafts room, but nobody was doing anything. The dining area was clean and friendly."

"It is all about the people! In August 2024, we moved from the Farrcroft subdivision (Fairfax) to The Trillium Tysons. At the time, we could not have anticipated how much we needed to be at The Trillium or how much The Trillium family would change our lives for the better. In our Fairfax community, we knew 6 people but were genuine friends with only 2. Within the last 6 months at the Trillium, we have acquired 100+ new friends among residents and 60+ among staff. We enjoy friendships and opportunities for socialization with residents in Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care apartments. The residents and staff represent a diverse population from around the world with richly inspiring experiences to share. Personally, we have had a few unexpected health issues in the last six months, but we have felt the support, loving embrace of the Trillium community that would ordinarily find only in a close-knit family. The facility is gorgeous throughout the 15 floors. The restaurants accommodate individual needs/requests and consistently offer 5-star meals daily. There are so many exemplary daily activity opportunities that one has to choose among them. These include guided physical activity, arts and crafts, education, games, and entertainment both within The Trillium building but also excursions into the larger metropolitan community. Apartment maintenance, housekeeping, and transportation services are provided expeditiously at the highest level of quality. Have there been a few glitches in a newly constructed building? Of course. Could some processes be more efficient? Yes. However, the overall collective experience is extraordinary. Moving to The Trillium is one of the best decisions we have made in our long lives. We have rediscovered joy in our senior years. We consider ourselves blessed and fortunate to be living at The Trillium surrounded by such wonderful people."

"My husband moved to Sunrise of McLean. He needs additional help with so many things. He is actually on their third floor, which is primarily memory care. He has Parkinson's, so he has a little bit of dementia, and he gets excellent care up there. They watch him all the time. They make sure that he doesn't try to get up unassisted, and they make sure that he gets assistance getting up and going into the bathroom and helping with his showers. There are plenty of attendants, so there is always somebody around watching what everyone is doing. That's one of the reasons I like it, that there are enough attendants. Some of the other facilities, I felt, were lacking in that department. He could probably be in just assisted living, should he not need all the assistance and extra care. It bugs him sometimes because he said he has to switch dinner partners frequently. He was at one table, and he said nobody there knew their names. He has to be rotated around a little bit so that he can have a conversation at the meal. Today in their activity area, they had someone come in who plays the piano and sings, so there was entertainment for an hour and a half. That's done at least once a week. They have live entertainment that comes in the afternoon. They have excellent food, much better than the rehab facilities, and he's very pleased with it. They vary their menus so they're not having the same thing every single week. I was there today for lunch, and there was corn soup, a green salad, a piece of pizza, and southwestern beans with a square of chocolate cake with whipped cream on the top for dessert. The facility is very well laid out. There are plenty of places where the family can gather outside of the room and visit. They also have a private dining room if you would like to reserve it for a family birthday or something. For activities, they have quite a few things. Some of them, my husband just isn't interested in, but that's his problem and not the facility's. Twice a week, they have what they call a scenic ride, and you can put your name down for the bus, and you go out for a ride for about half an hour to 40 minutes. It's a nice little break, and they vary the route. It's just a nice scenic ride, especially this time of the year when all the flowers are out in the greenery. I usually go with him on those, so I know for a fact. There are plenty of things to do. There's painting and bingo. They even have travelogues where you can go and visit a country on TV. They have a lot of different things like that, even though my husband doesn't choose to go and do them. Everyone seems very happy there, and all of the staff seem to know everyone by name. I've seen them when people are coming down from the main dining room to the other floors. The memory care and assisted living's dining room and patio are actually on their floor, but everyone else goes down to a big central dining room to eat. When they come in, they're greeted by the staff by their names. They seem to know everybody's name. They even know my name, my daughter's name, and my son-in-law's name when we come to visit. That's a big thing there. They try to learn everybody's names very quickly."

"We toured the Sunshine Assisted Living in Alexandria. They gave us a tour of the whole assisted living community. I liked the layout of it and the distance from where we lived. The staff there were very kind and polite. The coordinator was very nice and explained everything that my wife and I talked to her about. The dining area was nice and clean. The staff showed me where they dine, the playing area, and the salon where they do their hair, which was nice. You have to go underground and off the street to park. Other than that, I think it appears nice. It's also right on the corner, so you can't miss it."

"We toured here. I chose that because it has quite a few assisted living amenities and is all included in the overall price, which is very good. The staff was excellent. They answered all the questions and even a few more that we asked. They took us to all sorts of studios and one-room apartments. They answered any questions we had about adjusting any elements of the room, like moving a refrigerator around to another location. They were very personable and very helpful. All in all, it was a very good tour, and they included Sunday brunch and it was very nice."

"Everything about Benchmark at Alexandria was very well kept up and had an elegant design, nice big high ceilings, and big windows. We had a lovely lunch. The woman who helped us there was marvelous, so it was a very positive experience. I have two parents. One needs to go to memory care, and one will go to independent living, and there wasn't a place where they could be together, but they could be close to each other on different floors. For my mother, we were looking at studios. For my father, we're looking at a one-bedroom. All of them, on every floor, had very high ceilings and big, high windows, which added to the space. The rooms were a bit on the big side compared to the other places we've been. The food was delicious. Everything was very nicely kept. It was still sort of snowy out, so we didn't go into the courtyard. My father commented afterwards that there was just really nothing to complain about. The people seemed content. It's in beautiful shape. It's quite a new building, just a couple of years old."

"Sunrise of Fairfax was a big facility, but it seems like they had it planned out for residents who get tired of walking a long way, so they had sitting spaces at regular intervals along the hallways so that elderly residents with mobility issues could pause along the way. It wasn't especially updated. They still had carpeted floorings and the hallways weren't especially spacious. All the people that I met were friendly. The residents that we ran into seemed happy. The dining area was nice and spacious and they had a little separate seating area from the main dining area and there were residents there sitting and just socializing. They also had a library with lots of different types of books and a computer for the residents to use. They were completely full and did not have a room they could show us."

"I liked the apartments at Grand Oaks in Washington. My father-in-law needs to be monitored all the time so we thought that this facility would be really good for him because the facility is connected to a hospital with nurses on-duty 24/7, and his laboratory tests can be easily done there. The facility is new, so the apartments are nice. The bathrooms are completely accessible with grab bars in place. As for the activities, there are chair aerobics and church services. The menu looked good, but I did not try the food. The medical services are what stood out for me at this facility. "

"I believe that the experience was a positive one as they never bothered me when I would visit my father. The staff was kind of ho-hum and appeared to be going through the motions, not necessarily personable but their to their do jobs effectively. It may just be a sign of Northern Virginia as that tends to be most of our attitudes. I felt the facilities were adequate and well kept. There were a number of paths you could take to stroll around and the landscaping was nicely done. There were a number of activities set up for the seniors to enjoy and it seemed like more of a place for someone to go while they needed help living rather than a hospice situation where you expected the patient to die. All in all, I think they are more equipped to help the healthy that need assistance rather than people in dire straits. "
