I would avoid this company like the plague. It is shameful that a hospital like HUP is affiliated with this organization. We were lied to about their care and responsiveness. The nurses come to the cancer wing daily to get you to go into hospice and then when you do, they do not give you what you need for your loved one to be comfortable. They did not send out staff to help us and they would not take our complaint calls. I am so angry that we signed with them. My mother would have been so much better cared for in the hospital. This place is awful. There is no transparency, they did not honor their assurance about returning calls or sending out personal care attendants, and making sure my mom was comfortable during her last days. She died in pain and we had to provide the services that the hospice agency was supposed to provide. When she passed it took them two hours to call back. We ended up calling the police for her pronouncement. All they want is new patients so that they can bill Medicare. They should be shut down.

When my mom came out at Penn Care, it was very good. They just didn’t offer nursing aide care on the basis that we needed this. They provided everything, and they took care of everything she needed as far as occupational, physical, and speech therapies.

We did use the services of Wissahickon Hospice when my dad was still alive, and they were wonderful. They have a health aide who comes out three days a week and also an RN twice a week. They give him baths and also provide medications for him. They also have a spiritual advisor who comes out and meets with him. They also made contact with the doctor when his blood pressure was very low. They were very, very thorough as far as working with my dad.
