While working full time, raising a family and still not having gotten time to deal with my dad passing in 2009, my 89 year old mom became seriously ill in 2010 and needed abdominal surgery. My family became extremely worn out and it was at that time, I got to the point of knowing, that it was time to hire professionals to assist me with making clear decisions regarding my mom and her care. Halcyon became the missing pieces to the puzzle. The Director, Meg M., had a calming effect which allowed me to feel at ease with the future decisions I needed to make for my mom. She always treats you professionally, yet had a genuine sense of compassion that causes everyone to feel great comfort in such a chaotic time. I soon realized that all the staff at Halcyon felt as if they were family and it became of great value knowing I had them by my mom's side. My mom had someone else now that gave her the compassion & comfort that I was giving her, yet the knowledge, experience, reliability and advocacy my family needed for security. I bonded with the nurses, social workers and office staff quite quickly and what a difference it made and gave me such a sigh of relief knowing my mom was being watched by another set of eyes-whom are all passionate about what they do. All the Halcyon staff care about all their clients and how that truly matters in an elder crisis situation. It made my mom's end of life situation that much more bearable. My mom passed away in 2011 and I still continue to be a client with Halcyon, where I receive bereavement counseling. It has helped me immensely, to be able to continue on with the journey after my mom's passing, knowing I still have support, guidance and compassionate understanding to help me through the grieving process.
