"The atmosphere in Juniper Village at Monroeville was very home-like. The director was extremely knowledgeable and the services they provided would be everything that my parents would need. My father liked it a lot. The biggest problem we're finding is availability. The facility was very clean. It was recently renovated, so it looks new. The rooms were nice. They were a nice size. There was lots of light through windows and things like that."

"I went for a tour at Mount Vernon, and the staff was very informative. The place looked nice. Unfortunately, they were a lot older, and my brother-in-law was only 56. Most of these places had elderly people in there, and I was hoping to find something that might have a various age levels. The apartment was fine. We went on the day they had an Easter breakfast with the bunny. It was nice that the head nurse or whatever brought her dogs in every day. They had activities planned, and she showed me the calendar. "

"We toured Arden Courts of Jefferson Hills. It was very nice. Everybody brought in a wreath, and all the rooms were decorated. They had a little box where you could put stuff in it. The staff was very, very nice. When you came in, they offered you cookies. I liked the porches outside where they would take the patients, and there was nice scenery."

"I like how clean it was, how everything was open and available to all the people who live there, and the staff was great. I looked at both assisted living and independent living. The staff who gave me the tour was very knowledgeable. She gave me a tour of the whole place, and it seemed like she didn't hide anything. It's a great place. They got in-house physical therapy; it looked great. They have a gym, a salon, and an in-house doctor. It was close to where she's living now. It's near all the hospitals, too."

"We toured The Residence at Whitehall. They were very nice, but they were above what we could afford. They showed us the studio apartment, which would have been too small for us. We saw the common areas like the lobby, the dining areas, and the craft rooms. They were well-maintained."

"Brookdale Murrysville was very clean. It didn't have any odors or anything like that. We were shown a few of the rooms, and they were all decent size. The patients and their families had already decorated them, so they all looked very nice. They had the kitchens, the dining area, and everything else that you would normally expect. If they had a larger outdoor area, we might have considered them. The staff did an excellent job of pointing everything out, showing us where everything was, and walking us around the whole area. I was very pleased with his job. Everything seemed to be very clean and orderly."

"We moved my parents into an assisted living facility a couple of months ago called Paramount Senior. It is both independent and assisted living. It was a nice fit for them; they are in one unit together, but one is independent and one needs assistance. I think it’s a pretty long run operation; my only concern is the turnover with the staff. "

"My mom moved into Whitetail Springs Assisted Living and Memory Care. We chose it because their care level was higher than the other places we went to. She's got dementia, and the thing that made our decision for us was that they checked on her more in the evening. They have motion sensors in the room. So if she moves or starts to wander, it triggers, and they scoop her up before anything happens. This place had a higher level of security at night. Her apartment was the biggest one that they had available. It's very large and it's like a nicer hotel room. It's a very nice place. She likes the food. They feed her quite well and are very attentive. They'll make something else for her if she doesn't like something. So they have some flexibility there. They keep them busy and have a lot of activities that are suited to their needs of the people who are there. The cost was very similar to what we would be paying elsewhere, maybe a bit higher, but given the extra layer of care they put on in the evening, it's worth it."

"Overlook Green seemed very nice, and the people who work there was very nice. I think the rooms are OK. They're fine. They're kind of like a hotel room, but I guess that's to be expected. I like the location. It's close to South Hills. "

"The rooms that they showed us at Graceful Care Living just had a bed in them, and that's it. We knew immediately when we got there that that wasn't what we were looking for. The staff mentioned that they have another section for people who are more independent. However, it was still somewhat the same concept. Instead of being in a room, like a small, single room, there were two beds. There was no television in those independent rooms. You have to go out of the room to watch television. It was that type of atmosphere, and my mother doesn't want that. She wants something that's like a small apartment, where she can live in that small space and be able to care for herself. I liked the atmosphere. I liked the staff. They're very nice and very accommodating as we went through the tour. My mom asked questions, although she didn't ask very many because she knew, and I could tell just from how she was withdrawn that she was like, "No, this is not going to work for me." I said it to the guy. I said, she's a lot more independent. She can get around fairly well, but this is not for her. She still needs to be in her own place where she can take care of herself. The only thing that she needed was somebody to help her, like to come in and help her to make sure that she's taking her meds. I didn't smell anything. It was very clean."

"I liked Mount Vernon. I liked the attitude, I liked the personality, they were very friendly, and I think they need that for Alzheimer's patients. I liked the facility and the activities they do for them. They don't force them to do anything, they work with them, they wait and see how they were going to go, and then they go from there. They were very concerned about their patients. "

"I ride by Paramount everyday. They have assisted living and dementia care. The facility was only three years old. It's new and very clean. Everything was newer in it. It was also very well run. I like the staff. They seemed to be very organized. They did have a nice courtyard. However, I just didn't like the atmosphere. Everything was white. They were like bland and they didn't have any character to it. For activities, at that time, they were just playing some kind of a game in a room. "
