I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

Some of Perry Green Valley Nursing Center facilities are older but the care is really good, and it's satisfying for what we need. The staff has been really great. His room there is newer and it's a good room. The residents would gather at an area there to do exercise at 10 in the morning, and they also do bingo. Their food is really good.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

My mother was a resident of Green valley from Dec. 2002 until Sept.8th, 2011 when she passed away. For the 1st 2 years, I both visited my mom and she had a phone available for free for low income/Medicaid residents so she could call me. She was moved from her original room to another that was closer to the nursing station for 2 reasons: #1 She had fell a couple of times, resulting in bruising and a broken finger. #2. She was not getting along well with her roommate. When I visited her, she was usually in a wheelchair in front of the TV in the common room. There was very little interaction between the nursing staff and the residents in these cases; the routine was the same day after day unless someone had a birthday and the residents could enjoy cake and ice cream on that occasion. It seemed to me that my mother was over-medicated in that before she went to the nursing home, I had taken her to a new Doctor who had adjusted her meds to the least ammt. the Dr. felt would help her and yet allow her to live a normal life. She was diagnosed as severely depressed. Against my advice she went back to the Dr. she had before and the meds were changed to much more, causing her to be confused and ultimately overdosing and having to go the nursing home. The next 2 years my visits declined and she longer had a phone in her room but my sister visited on a regular basis and kept me informed since I was out of state. She fell 3 more times during that time, once out of bed, another from her wheelchair and the 3rd was unknown and it resulted in a break in her lower left leg. I had called the Omsbudsman and had him visit the home and his report was that all was perfectly normal in mom's care yada, yada. I had the feeling I was being blown off and considered his service useless. The next 5 years was a rapid decline for mom, she was diagnosed with alzseimers (sp.?) and schizophrenia. I found the latter far reaching. For the last 3 years to her death, she no longer recognized us, she did not communicate, she had no teeth (nursing home couldn't find them), she could not hear (again, the nursing home couldn't find them) and I found letters and cards in her bed table from me and others unopened. I don't know what else to say other than I hope I never have to go to such a place and I certainly would not reccomend this nursing home.
