"I toured Pleasantview Home a few weeks ago, and then today I took my parents through; they toured one of the independent living units. I think it's excellent. It's got a long waiting list. My neighbors who live behind me have moved in over there, and they love it. They have a friendship center and it has exercises. They have group activities going on: quilting, cards, and all kinds of stuff. The staff were very helpful, friendly, and wonderful people."

"I love this nursing home. It makes you feel so at home. The rooms are light and airy. There is fun things to do for the clients. The staff is very pleasant and always there to visit with the clients. My grandmother was here for the last year of her life and I felt very comfortable going to visit her. On the day she died, our whole family around 20 members showed up to say goodbye to her. THe staff never asked us to be quiet while we stood around in the hallway and in the lobby. We felt so pleased, we donated her lift chair for the nursing home to use for someone else. I have probably visited 6 or 7 nursing homes in my life and this is the best one. "

"My father had a much better time in the hospital than in assisted living. In the assisted living center, they came and worked with him only a few hours each day, whereas in the hospital, they worked with him the majority of the day. Also, in the facility, there would be patients out walking the hallways in the middle of the night yelling at the top of their lungs, making it very hard to sleep. Overall, I would never use this assisted living facility in the future. "

"My sister stayed in the memory care side of Parkview Manor where she was taken good care of. My sister had a bedroom with an attached bath with toilet and sink, but she had to go down the hall to use the showers. The staff was very good, kind, and went out of their way to meet, even exceed, my sister's needs. She didn't particularly like the food there as she's vegetarian and she often struggled to find something that she enjoyed eating."

"Solon Nursing Care Center has a good reputation and it's very close to where I live. The staff has been very caring to my aunt. They have plenty of activities for the residents to be involved as much as they want or as little as they want. My aunt is in a small room and her meals are provided. I have eaten there and I enjoyed the food. "

"I went to United Presbyterian Home. I looked at a one-bedroom apartment. It met my needs pretty well, if I get to that point. The community was small, and they have quite a bit of stuff there. Where I'm living now, I don't have a lot of stuff. The staff was very good, very helpful, very friendly, and knew everything that I had questions about. I had no problems with that at all. They have things going on in the home and different activities. They have exercise, a library, a spa, and a pool of some kind. I ate there one time several months ago, and the food was good."

"My grandmother is a resident here, and she absolutely loves it. She has Alzheimer's disease, and can sometimes be a little bit difficult. The staff seems to be very kind and understanding of her condition, and do their best to make her comfortable. The facility itself is wonderful. It has a gym for the residents, a bistro where residents and their visitors can eat, and they even decorate for the holidays. Each time that I have been at the facility, I have also seen their menus for lunch/dinner. It seems like they always have very hearty and healthy meals. My grandmother seems to like the food very much. It also has some very nice gardens and courtyards around the building if you want to take a walk outside. The building's layout is nice also, because one part of it has the residents that need more help functioning throughout the day, while the other section has the residents that do not really need any supervision through the day. For the residents that do not need a lot of supervision, they can actually get rooms that are similar to apartments and include kitchenettes. The section where the people who do need supervision live is very secure, and the doors require codes in order for people to get in and out. If someone leaves without using the code, an alarm goes off. There is usually at least one staff member near the doors. Overall, I feel very good having my grandmother there, and she seems to really enjoy living there. "

"We visited Lutheran Living a week ago. They have always been very kind and very attentive. With the situation now, they are just very aware and very good at trying to take care of everything as well as they can. The staff was good; they are very nice. My grandmother has tried their food and she didn't like it. I have seen the assisted living part, the transitional care, and the special care unit. The rooms were very nice: they are newer, and they are very clean. I like the fact that they are newer and that the place has a good feel to it. Even though it's not your preferred place to have a loved one, it's a nice place to have overall. Everything is limited right now, but before they had a little café where they could go to eat or meet family members. They also had activities and a hairstylist."

"I went to Highland Ridge. I like the cleanliness of the building and the apartment size. They have on-site dining, which is really nice. They have a salon, and they have like a little area outside that you can go to. There is a community room. The staff was very pleasant, and she gave a lot of information about the living room and stuff. It was well organized; they just forgot that we were going to be there. Otherwise, the portion of the food was really good. The dining area was very clean and elegant."

"All American was not my first choice; it was actually my last but they were the only ones that have available room in the area. The staff is wonderful; they helped us with a lot of stuff and a lot of paper work that he had done, and they helped file for Medicaid for my dad whereas other places wouldn’t. The only thing I noticed is that it’s kind of dark. I think they need to paint and get newer equipment, but other than that I think it would be a good place. It seems dull, but it’s very clean. They even introduced me to the head cleaner; I thought that was really good. The person who gave me a tour me was very good. I think they need to work on the rooms a little bit more as it’s very small and cramped. "

"Wheatland Manor seems nice. The staff seems very competent and cheerful, and are taking good care of people. We were able to visit my father just through a screen. They opened up a window in the dining room, and we sat outside that window and talked to him. Everybody had a mask on. I have not been able to visit him inside. The communication is very good. He said the food is not always his taste."

"My mother was at the Rehabilitation Center of Lisbon for a couple of months. It's a beautiful place and has nice scenery. The food was excellent. But how the place is being run is very, very cold. It was hard to get help there because people were changing so much, but they had some very nice aides there. I was there about every day and somehow that concerned them. So, it bothered me that just because I was coming there a lot, they got upset about that and they were kind of intimidated by it. That situation kind of started to wear on me. I found some places to transfer my mom to and they sabotaged that. They lied to them and said that I was doing things, and they gave them my wrong phone number so they couldn't call me. The administration should be more accessible to people and be more considerate. We had dealings with the head nurse, which was not good because she was under the thumb of the administration. Mom did not get help from her at all. I did not feel that she was caring. They had bingo, but very few people came out to it. They took some residents out for walks. They had a beauty parlor, a fountain, and a little tiny garden, but nobody was ever out there. One of our contentions was that we were just given a bill and we were not told what it was for, we just had to pay it."

"My mom is in the nursing facility at Wilton Retirement Community. It is close to Muscatine and the staff there have been very helpful. Mom just loves interacting with all of them. Right now, she's in a semi-private room which is neat. When you walk in the door off of the corridor, the room splits. One lady has the side on the right, and my mom has the side on the left. The bathroom is right in between the two of them in the room. There were some parts in the other nursing homes I visited, well, they were actually in the assisted living section, that I think would be good. All the staff that I have interacted with have been very knowledgeable. Mom needs somebody strong and not going to simply listen to her saying "I don't want to do that," but they do it in a nice way to where she doesn't have a problem with them telling her what to do. They are very patient with her. I've looked at their calendar, and I know there are at least three things going on during the day. These activities typically include bingo or games, crafts, music, and most days, exercise time with all the residents."
