Oaknoll Retirement Residence is a very pleasant and nice place. The setting is really nice. There are several dining rooms and a number of activities. They have a theater and a pool. The studio room in my price range, was small and I would have to bring in my own furniture. The staff is extremely knowledgeable. They have everything there.

Oaknoll is one of the more "posh" assisted living facility I've visited and includes a pool and spa, a library, a cafe, a movie theater, a salon, and other amenities not generally found in other assisted living facilities. There are also the more usual services like housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance at Oaknoll. The residents are able to pursue a lifestyle of their choosing along a continuum of care from independent living to assisted living. There is also on-site nursing for residents as needed. One nice thing about Oaknoll is that regardless of a resident's health status and individual needs, the price remains the same. Something that I imagine is an especially nice perk for those living on fixed incomes. In my personal experience, the residents of Oaknoll are more active and social than residents of other assisted living/retirement communities I've visited. Whether this is because of the demographic of people who are able to afford the cost of living at Oaknoll is such that they are generally in better health or because Oaknoll itself promotes such vitality among its residents is uncertain; however, my own guess is that both contribute.

Oaknoll Retirement Residence is a top notch facility. There is a waiting list for the facility and I think that says a lot. People can't wait to get into the facility because it's known as the best in the area. On our local radio station you here a famous radio personality (and senior citizen) Dottie Ray talk about the highlights of the facility and based on my experiences she is spot on. Everyone is very friendly, the facility is very clean, and I feel like my grandmother is in good hands. Before we made our decision for our grandmother we visited a number of facilities in the local area. There were some very questionable places and once we visited Oaknoll we knew that we had found the best place. They offer shuttle service and my grandmother loves this feature because she likes to visit the Sycamore Mall and the Coral Ridge Mall. She has met a number of friends and she feels like she has a great network of people to talk with and take part in activities with as well.

Oaknoll nursing home is a great nursing home in a quiet community. Located on the west side of Iowa City residents are close to the downtown area but also have a quiet living environment because they live near mostly graduate students. Iowa City is a great college town that has many activities and restaurants. There is also a Wal-mart nearby. During the tour there was a wonderful screened in porch and sun room, plus a recently added spa and movie theater. I was surprised that there was also a gym and full sized swimming pool, because I enjoy doing water aerobics and it seemed like a nice place to do them. If the transition to assisted living is necessary that service is found on site as well. The people I saw at Oaknoll seemed happy and seemed to be at least in their 60's. I'm not sure if this is where I will wind up retiring to but it is certainly a great choice.
