The rooms at Brunswick Cove Nursing Center were spacious and well lit. They have an activities director but they don't have very active or very mobile residents so the activities are limited to drawings, coloring, and games. They have outdoor areas. The dining area is cafeteria style, but it was still nice. The staff there was very nice too.

The shared room is big enough for two. The closets and bureaus are small but sufficient. The food is lacking. When I visited the food was cold by the time the resident got it. The last meal I saw was unrecognizable so I was glad i brought the resident someting to eat that evening. The resident lost a lot of weight while there. The resident remained unchanged too long and had a severe rash on her entire backside, which was a sxurprise to the helper who finally came. She remarked the resident called often and was dry when she came. However, the resident was in much pain and that included her private areas. Thank God for Hopsice who gave her compassionate care a few times a week. There may have been a few who worked at Brunswick Cove who were kind and helpful, but some just gave up on this resident. I would expect compassionate care no matter the problems the resident faced since anyone who comes there really needs help and constant care. Otherwise they would not be in a nursing home. I hope something is done to improve this facility. I never saw residents in any activities except watching TV. Most are in their rooms constantly. I would never willingly have any of my loved ones go there now that I have seen the care of this resident.

Items sent to the laundry are "lost' even though the person's name is clearly written on it. This happens often. Things are stolen from patient rooms. Towels are not provided (even if you are told they are) and if you bring your own towels, they are often stolen.

Food is hit or miss. Sometimes there is only a spoonful of vegetables on the plate. Many staff members are kind, but often others are short tempered and controlling. My friend's clothes were stolen from the laundry. Items were labeled with her info. It was reported to staff, but nothing was done. She does not have the money to replace clothes that were given to her as a gift. What kind of a place is this that cares so little for it's residents?

If you have other options for care for your loved ones, I would highly recommend avoiding Brunswick Cove. Both of my grandparents spent time at Brunswick Cove, in 2011 and 2017. Very little care was provided. No one was ever attending to them when we would come visit, or come in for care while we were there. We would visit, sometimes for hours and no one would come to change them. My grandmother was given things we repeatedly told them she was allergic to. Nothing seemed to be monitored (unrine output, bowel movements, fluid intake, if they are eating and getting any nutrition at all). Extremely lacking, pitiful care.

My friend has been at Brunswick Cove for six months now. There were some problems when we went there. My friend’s roommate is really in a sad situation because she is totally blind. My friend, who is more mobile, keeps their room clean and takes the trash out. I spoke with the cleaner, and since then, it has been better; however, I wouldn’t rate the place highly. It is not a good place. We have not been happy with it.
