Jen, Amanda and all the staff are extremely helpful and accomodating. We were allowed to visit our sister, with precautions due to Covid, recently and they made every effort to make this happen for us. Thank you ladies!

They lost all of my mothers clothes, the food is horrible, worse than jail food, they let residents assault my mother, the aides left my mother in her bedpan for hours and hours and were verbally and physically abusive. The facility is filthy. They don’t follow any Covid safety protocols. It’s like a prison in there.

Head lice in the facility, disgusting. How did this happen??? Perhaps the Aides are not doing a very good job of showering and cleaning the patients. The hairdresser spends too much time talking, she should have noticed this. The Aides are not compassionate and caring at all. Too interested in their loves lives and phones!!! The second floor Day Room is dirty and disgusting. Weekends are a joke, rarely do they have enough help on the second floor!! What does that do to the quality of care for the patients!!! This facility makes me just sick. You should all be ashamed.

As I visiting today, I noticed that the patient whom I was visiting had a dirty bed. there was blood, chocolate and something else that I could not determine on the fitted sheet. I am then told that they only change the beds on shower days!!! How can this be?? I changed the bed myself. I still say that the Aides on the Second Floor need to be better at their jobs. There is so much texting and phone usage. Why are they even allowed these devices when they are working. Another day of disappointment at this facility.

No stars. Each year since a former resident (family member) passed away, the insurance company forwards our family a bill for an annual flu shot and other things like eye exams. Ashes shouldn't need a flu shot. The bill usually comes around the holidays, a fun reminder of the loss and refreshes the doubt of quality of care of residents. Quite a significant and consistent oversight.

I hadn't visited the gardens in several years. The RN and CNA's were very friendly but the facility was very dirty. Residents furniture not in great shape. Med cart with meds sitting in front of nurses station. Also nurses station not designed well.

I felt as though there were not enough nurses to the ratio of patients in the home. Some patients with dementia would roam the halls and bother other patients, or steal items from their rooms. The atmosphere was not cheery, more dim than anything, with a yellow paint on the walls that looked like dirty lemonade. There were no public bathrooms, therefore people visiting the home had to use whoever they were visiting toilet. Overall, I was unhappy with the quality of this nursing home. Also, the outside of the building was not landscaped at all. Instead, it looked as though the grass had been burnt off with dead flowers and bare trees. In the middle of summer. Need I say more?

Hornell Gardens has grown larger in the last few years. I visited my friend there on several occasions and most of the time I am really impressed. The do a great deal of educational and recreational activities and they even have gardens in the summer for the clients. My friend really liked animals and the Hornell Gardens let us bring our small dog to visit. All the residents enjoyed the dog, not just my friend. The food and the service seemed good. People working there were friendly. Like with most living facilities, there were a few negatives. The smell in general is not great. It does not smell bad, or unclean but it smells like people who are shut in. The air just smells musty. Some clients who can not get around sit in the hall, and it can be very sad to see them but as I tell my kids it is nice to visit all the residents. In general I would give Hornell Gardens a positive review.

my name is Ellie Koch and I live in San Diego, CA. I have an elderly aunt staying at Hornell Gardens. She has only been there since Nov. of 2010. I just want someone to be aware of the kind of care the patients receive there because we are very concerned about our aunt. She is being charged $9,100.00 a month to stay there. She shares her room with another lady. When she rings her bell to ask for help to get to the bathroom (she can't walk by herself) she is left sitting there so long that she has an accident. When we asked the nurse on duty about this she said they have a 'potty schedule' and it wasn't her turn to go. A friend found her unresponsive and had her sent to the hospital where they found her lungs had filled with fluid (this has happened before). My problem with this is that Hornell Gardens said she had been unresponsive for four days! Yet no one thought to send her to the hospital. Most recently my cousin in VA called Aunt Ginny and Aunt Ginny couldn't talk because she was having so much trouble breathing. My cousin called the desk and asked that she be sent sent to the hospital right away. Our friend went with her and found one side of her oxygen tube to be blocked. SHE fixed it and Aunt Ginny was discharged. We just don't feel that our aunt is getting very good care especially for that amount of money. I would like this to be considered a charge of neglect.
