Continuing Care Retirement Community Reviews for Taylor Community

I visited this facility

We had dinner at the Taylor Community Inc., and we liked that. We liked the people; everything. It was just very expensive. The dining room was nice and the rooms were nice. They were not too big or small.

I visited this facility

I visited the Taylor Community last summer. It’s one huge apartment with one building which is 3 story high. They also have individual houses up and around the property. The houses are very nice looking. It’s very "country". My sister-in-law likes it very much. She has a lovely 2-bedroom apartment there. Everything is very high-quality in the building. They have a view of the lake and the mountains. They got everything else as well; a lovely dining room where they eat dinner served to them. They also have garages for rent; its $40 a month for those who have cars. In addition, they have different activities such as going out to places weekly. However, it’s expensive, they need to buy in to that.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I really liked Taylor Community, because it had every level of assisted-living that a retired person could need. Where my grandparents lived, they had a free-standing house and they did their own shopping and cooking most of the time, however they could always go to the community dinning room and anything that they needed they could call and get done. In the winter the snow would be plowed minutes after it stopped snowing, and repairs were always done promptly all over the house. There were also emergency buttons in all of the bathrooms that triggered an ambulance to come right away (when I was a child, I unfortunately tested this). When they got older and found that they needed more care they were offered everything they needed and were given different options. They were able to stay in their own home while receiving care, but could have moved into the community building, too. The staff were extremely friendly to my grandparents and the rest of the family and always made sure to give a personal touch. When my grandmother got sick the director of Taylor Community came by almost every day to visit and get updates, and when she passed away they arranged another memorial at the Taylor Community for all her friends and the residents who couldn't make it to the funeral. The one thing that caused a problem was the location. While Laconia used to be a very nice town, it has recently become rather run down and this facility appears to be the only nice land left. Additionally, it was built on a hill. New Hampshire gets a lot of snow and ice in the winter and driving up and down the hill could be rather precarious (especially for the elderly). The hill also made it harder for some of the residents to walk and/or ride their bikes.
