My beloved husband and husband for almost 56 years was at Ross Worthen @Carlton-Willard.. My husband was a very loving and kind husband. and also a great Dad and Grandfather and friend to all.. He was a resident there for just over a year in the memory unit. and I cannot say enough good about how wonderful ,caring and kind the staff was. The care he received was exceptional. and I cannot say enough good about each of them. The staff was always attentive, kind and professional to him and to me and our family members as well..

I am highly impressed with the care my mother receives at the Ross Worthen Memory Care Unit at Carleton Willard skilled nursing facility. The staff are invested in their work and are so caring. They treat my mother with respect and dignity. The rooms & premises are well kept. The staff follow Covid-19 guidelines carefully and do all they can to keep the residents safe. The occupational/recreational team creatively offer a wide range of innovative group activities. The leadership including program manager and nurse manager are very involved, on site and promptly respond to patient needs and family questions.
Very Happy Spouse

I like the reputation, the staff, and the residents of Carleton-Willard Village, but they don't have a room available for Mom. The food is great, and the dining area is lovely. The staff is superb.

Carleton Willard rooms and grounds were excellent. It’s very attractive and comfortable. My husband and I found it very warm. The woman we talked to was very friendly and accommodating. I have been in this place often and found that a lot of people who went to my church were living there. When we asked her what her waiting list looked like, she said the wait would be between one and three years. It’s in a nice town surrounded by places to walk, which is quite nice. There are little paths. I particularly liked that you could get out and walk around enough to actually lose sight of the building.

Carleton-Willard was more of a complete Lifecare unit. You can start with independent, then assisted, full nursing, and memory care. They have the entire spectrum. We like the layout. It is sort of village-like. It is quite large. So the idea of being in a long-term care village was nice. The rooms were nice. There were townhouses and apartments. However, the thing that we didn't like about them was that their buy-in was large, but also they reduce the return by 1% every month, so after 8th month in the third year, your entire buy-in is gone. We didn't want to lose that. That idea of paying upfront for long-term care didn't make sense.

I only visited Carleton-Willard for about half an hour in July 2012, but I got a very positive impression at the time I was there. My step-grandmother is currently living in Carleton-Willard's assisted living facility, after transitioning there from their independent living apartments. I appreciate that she is able to transition towards receiving more care as her age increases and her Alzheimer's gets worse, all within the same facility. The facility seemed very clean and well-lit, and all of the staff were friendly and engaging. Her rooms were a nice size and looked very comfortable, and the staff ensured that the grounds were pristine - including her personal patio. There were dozens of activities to choose from each day - we saw signs for movies, croquet, jigsaw puzzles, billiards, etc. They held daily events and had a great library including recent titles. There were respectful, small memorials to residents who had recently passed, and great welcome signs for new residents. The facility seemed incredibly well maintained and truly geared towards the residents' best interests including not only comfort but also day-to-day enjoyment.

The staff are very friendly to my grandma, as well as to us whenever we visit. They seem to always recognize us and know all about us. My grandma likes to be treated very well and we can see that she is thriving at Carleton-Willard Village. She is active in bingo, has many friends, and paints watercolors there. She even had the opportunity to have her artwork displayed, which she was very proud of. There are always activities and outings, and the facilities are clean and nice. There is a wonderful outdoor pond with koi fish and turtles. My grandma is from the south so she likes to be able to sit outside in the warmth during the summer. There is also a very nice restaurant there - perfect for visiting family and friends. She can get her hair and nails done at the beauty salon in the home, use the computer facilities, and have access to a piano. During Christmas time they do a wonderful job of decorating the place. I think my grandma loves it there and therefore we love it as well, to see her thrive and do so well!

Everything was fine while my relatives were still independent. But once they started sinking deeper into Alzheimer's, it became clear how inept Carleton Willard was of taking care of those in the greatest need of sympathy and quality care. My grandmother was put on a number of anti-psychotics that worsened her descent into paranoia and the cloudy fog of dementia (she's since been taken off of them at another facility and has never been better!). My grandfather was confined to a depressing, dirty, and (to him) frightening wing that also worsened his condition. The staff was unsupportive and unapologetic for all that they put my relatives through and I would not advice this facility for anyone with any possibility of developing mentally debilitating conditions in their old age.
