I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mother is living in Quabbin Valley Healthcare. It's for long-term care. That's her forever home. She's in a memory care unit at this nursing home. I like that it's close by. I like that they have activities for about 12 hours a day. They do everything. I believe they have a hairdresser there, although my mother won't use them. They have a church. The staff is wonderful. They are very attentive. The food seems great. They need better cleaning. The care is wonderful.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

The staff is really incredible there. They foster an inclusive, safe, and interactive environment for the residents, and I feel that they genuinely care for the patients. The facility is clean and organized, and it seems to be a really tight ship. The patients mostly seem to be happy, and those who are able are encouraged to be social. Patient inactivity is average for a nursing home, but I feel that if a patient is able to engage in interactive activities they are encouraged to do so. I sometimes feel a sense of college dorm at the facility, not in any of the bad ways, but in the way that they attempt to build community through social events and the diversity of activity areas throughout the home. It is an excellent facility with a dedicated staff that is an asset to the local community. Of each of the horror stories I hear about nursing homes in the media, I cannot imagine any sort of that instance happening here. The facility is second to none, and the excellent staff complements it.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

The facility is clean and smells as good as can be expected. When I walk through it I often see the residents engaged in activities in the cafeteria. There are several nice rooms to use for your visit or you can have your visit in the patient's room although that is discouraged. A family friend who was in the long term care section often enjoyed watching television in one of the very sunny common areas. The spot was so sunny and cheerful that it seemed more like a small salarium in a quality hotel than a nursing home.My grandmother was also in this facility after she had a moderate stroke and I have mixed feelings about the care she received. The majority of the staff was attentive and compassionate however we did run into problems with them not responding to our concerns. For example we told them that something was not right and we thought she was having more strokes and they didn't do anything until that night when she was admitted into the hospital with a massive stroke that proved terminal. Quabbin Valley is a nice enough facility and we've seen many friends and family members receive good care here, however I cannot give them an excellent rating due to some of the staff members ignoring our family's concerns regarding our grandmother.
