My mom is staying at Autumn Lake Healthcare at Calvert Manor for rehab. I like its location. The nurses and the CNAs all worked well together. They're good. They need to improve their kitchen, their food sucks. Their staff were friendly and helpful. They have activities, like games, movies, Sunday services, music, and arts and crafts. Medicare is paying right now, but I imagine that since it's a nursing facility, it is very expensive.

Let me start by saying most everything they tell you on the phone this place will provide is mostly smoke and mirrors. We thought rehab might help my mother get back on her feet ( she was 90 )after a week hospital stay for a fall at her assisted living home. In addition they promised to assist with her meals, swallowing and speech. While the PT department was great ( daily ) the rest simply fell apart at the seams. They do NOT assist with feeding individuals and in fact not only do they not adhere to dietary restrictions but sometimes they wouldn't even take the lid off the plate delivered. So it sits there for hours, NOONE monitors how much she was eating or helped her until we had a fit 2 weeks in and they outsourced a company to assist. While the nurses were good, the aides are average at best because they are SO UNDERSTAFFED. Showers once a week if you beg, very little interaction because they simply do not have the time and so the one hour they are not at PT they are sitting in the bed in a wet diaper. She developed a horrific rash in her perineal area due to lack of cleanliness and the sheets were always dirty. Staff would not change her clothes for days and therefore they were always nasty and stained. Her phone charger went missing almost immediately and within a week she forgot how to use her phone. Once contact is restricted, its a slippery slope. You can believe me when I say they will try to hang on to them the full 28 days that are paid for by Medicare even when you want them out. Mom fell out of bed twice in the same day ( 12 hours apart ) and the second time scraped up her arm so bad she needed stiches and a bandage. One of her aides made the statement to my relative when asked about her possible departure date that " she will never get out of here". Final kicker was when they took her in the middle of the night to the ER for a blood transfusion ( that she didn't get or need ) and did not contact a single family member . I found out randomly the next day. Long story short, if the client/ patient cannot advocate for themselves in every form and fashion, do NOT enter the doors of this facility. (and yes, I DID manage to get her out although it was not easy ) I wouldn't let my dog stay here ( at least a vet would call me with updates, information and keep her clean and dry )

Our loved one stayed here for a respite and we were disappointed. Some staff were very nice but the communication was poor and the staff did not seem to know how to care appropriately for our family member. There was not any meeting upon admission to discuss care as we have received in other facilities. We had 4 respite stays for our family member over the course of a year and this was by far the worst. I would not recommend this facility especially for an individual that is not able to advocate for themselves. It might be fine for a rehab stay for someone that can communicate their needs. Some of our concerns were brought to administrative staff and we were told by a third party that they would "look into it". We did not receive any response at all.

Menu leaves much to be desired. Although the say alternative meals are available, they rarely ever are. CNAs and nursing staff is wonderful, very caring and kind but they are short staffed. We found they dont share patient information to incoming shifts. We were told they were "agency personnel". Not sure how that excuses not knowing a patient has dementia or is a fall rish, etc

My best friend was there for a few months for rehab. The food was terrible and I wouldn’t feed it to an animal, a few times they forgot to feed her. The CNA’s were nice and Samantha W. was excellent and went above to make her comfortable. Alot of the nurses and CNA staff are traveling so the patients cannot form a personal relationship with the patients. It used to be excellent when my mother was there. The CNA’s and nurses were friendly and permanent employees. The food was excellent and like home made and a lot of thought went into what they served the patients. My mom was never overlooked during meals. It’s so bad now I had to take food in for my friend so she wouldn’t go hungry. The meals are not only bad but the serve them cold. I’ve seen animals treated better. It’s sad the money they are taking in they could do much better. Oh, whoever coordinates Dr appointments didn’t have the paperwork done for her Dr appointment after she arranged and paid for transportation herself, they don’t take their patients to the doctor. They have to arrange it themselves. Very ridiculous and it’s a shame it lost the personal feel that made them such a great place. The administration seems more concerned with keeping costs ti a bare minimum that making the patients happy and feeding them decent food. They can’t leave ti get food so at least feed them something a step up from dog food. Calvert Manor, get your act together and stop skimping on your patients and strive harder to keep regular help that care about people. The rooms are okay, activities she didn’t go to any, interactions with the staff were okay but the one CNA Samantha was a bright spot for her and treated her like family. There needs to be more like her. I hate to see a nice place like this go downhill because of a change in ownership. I can only hope they will get it right or I don’t see the them lasting.

Calvert Manor in Rising Sun brought great expectations. Their health officials take their jobs to heart and the recreational activities that the elderly are involved in create a great atmosphere to interact in. From the food that they eat to being cooked well to the clean facilities, Calvert Manor has given me a comfortable feeling about their professionalism.

This assisted living provider was a well kept and an organized facility that made sure that the patients felt like they were at home. The staff was kind and caring to the patients, and well trained. We had an older fellow that fell and they were quick to respond and give immediate care. The ambulance wasn't needed because the staff was so well trained and knew what to do and how to help the gentleman heal without causing him more expenses through a hospital or ambulance. While the staff is amazing the place itself was kept clean at all times and had small touches in each room to make sure that the patients we happy while being away from their family. I remember talking to a frail woman who reminded me of my great- grandmother. she was so happy that we visited and couldn't wait for our spring show. Her kids didn't see her that much and she loved being with younger people her kids' ages. I felt very glad to be allowed that time with her after we did our songs. The staff was great and the facility was amazing.
