I visited the Selborne House of Laurel's senior apartment community. The thing I like least about it is probably the long hallways, as it is a fairly big place. I did like the fact that I could get around fairly easily in it. They had a day room that was set up for people. It was a situation where I could live independently and be able to go to a general room to watch TV for example. It would be fairly open, and I wouldn't have to have a TV of my own. The room they showed me was very nice. It was roomy and had all the amenities like a stove and refrigerator. I also know they have certain systems for trash. I generally felt pretty comfortable there. The facility is very clean, and they have good maintenance. They have an eating area where they might have some coffee or snacks available, but the meals aren't served to anybody. It's a very independent place. The first time I went there, the staff members weren't very helpful. The second time I went, the lady there was different and was extremely helpful in giving me a tour. Also, I went a year apart, and the monthly fee went up $100 a month, and to me that seemed awfully excessive for the rent to go up that high. I was expecting something around $1,100, but when I went there it was already $1,300. I suppose that's still good, but to me who can only afford $900 a month. That was an awful lot. That's one reason I decided to go somewhere else on a rental. We also have several cats, and they only allow two cats there.

Selborne House of Laurel seems to be very, very kind and very, very helpful. They really want to help you with whatever you need here. For example, I asked the maintenance yesterday if they could come up and break all the moving boxes down, and they did. So, they've been very kind, and they were the most economical for me at this time. I prepare my own food, but they have a food giveaway on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of every month. The facilities are very clean. They have a shuttle that comes and takes you to the local supermarket and takes you to the stores and picks you up and brings you back. So, I think that's pretty reasonable and very valuable for the price.

I have been here at Selborne House of Laurel for 2 months now. The people are nice. I like it because it's really quiet here. They have a laundry room, a gym, a library, and a TV room where we can watch movies on weekends. On certain nights, they play games. I'm pleased with it. It's a 4-story building and it's all 1-bedroom apartments. Mine has a balcony.
