We visited our friend at The Blake at Colonial Club. Our friend was well cared for. She had issues with a tendency to fall because she had fallen and broken her hip before she had to go into that community. After she got out of rehab, the family placed her there. Because of a fall while she was living alone, she hit her head and had bleeding on the brain, which triggered a slight case of dementia. So, she had issues remembering where her room was at The Blake, and so they had to have special people constantly aware of her whereabouts, and they were very attentive to that need. The facilities were very pleasant. The dining area was attractive, and the facility where they hosted the Parkinson's event was present. The receptionist was quite helpful in directing us to where we needed to go. The facility was very secure. While we were there at the Parkinson's event, I noticed that a large group of the in-house patients were being entertained with an activity, and I think it was bingo. The parking area was very adequate.

If the facility decides to shelter in place for a hurricane the generators only support the public gathering areas. The apartments are not supported by the generators. After learning this, my family decided this would not be the best place to care for our love one.

My experience at The Blake at Colonial Club is fairly good. It was a little bit rocky at the beginning because the care was not dependable. It was always different people instead of one person. But it has leveled out to where the care is usually always the same person. It's very new and well-maintained. The meals have improved and they're above average. I'm not an activity person, but they have music, and they can go to various restaurants in the area. They have a bus that is handicapped accessible. It has a little lift which is available. However, because of the location, it's difficult to get to New Orleans to shop or to go to the bank. There's no public transportation, which I use quite often that gets me to the more business-related location. Aside from that, getting to the hospital and my doctor's appointments has been satisfactory.

My mom moved into The Blake at Colonial Club. They offer a very structured agenda for memory care. I like the setup for non-emergency medical transportation and I thought that was a plus. The room and the surroundings are very agreeable. I like the ratio of staff that they have in memory care. The staff is very caring, very interactive, and very inviting. I've eaten there once or twice, and it's been really good. Every day, they have activities going on. They have music, weekly mass or some type of religious service, bingo, movies, exercises, and other activities all tailored to the needs of those in memory care.

The Blake at Colonial Club is an excellent facility. I like the newness and the modernness of the rooms and the group rooms. They offer everything that a person could possibly need. They have a salon where you can get your hair and nails done. The facility was great. We could not tour the memory care, so I did the assisted living, but I was told about the memory care. The staff was all great. Even when I came in, they had me identify myself, and put in my information in a kiosk at the front desk. I like the safety of it. They're just topnotch. I didn't consider it a good location for me because it was in Harahan, but because the facility is so beautiful, I would consider the location.

The Blake at Colonial Club is beautiful. The food is wonderful and they assured me that the care is going to be better than where my mom is now, but I have nothing to say about the care yet until my mom gets there. We saw the room that she's going to stay in and it's just a little bit smaller than what she had, but the bathrooms are so much nicer. There's actually a counter with a sink and cabinets in the bathroom. There's a walk-in closet also, and everything looked really, really clean. There was nobody just laying there or sitting in the hall sleeping. I saw the memory care part, and on her floor they have a full kitchen, a piano, and a place where they get their hair done and everything like that. The people I talked to were very nice and informative. We also tried the food and when I looked at the other residents, what they were eating was basically the same to what we were eating. I had salmon and hamburger while my husband had a fresh salad, and everything was fresh. It was a three course meal and it was very nice. If you wanted a homemade dessert, they gave it to you, but if you don't want homemade dessert, they have a snack bar that they can go to whenever they want to get muffins or drinks and stuff like that.
