"I toured Lakes of Paducah Senior Living. The facility was more like a hotel kind of thing. It was very nice and modern. I saw the apartments that they had for independent living. The kitchens are small. They have a refrigerator and a microwave. The square footage is only 500. The staff that took me around was very helpful, friendly, and open, and answered all the questions. She told me some things I didn't even know I needed to know. She was very personable and very knowledgeable. Lakes of Paducah Senior Living is on a lake; it's a man-made lake. There's a walking path. It's a nature kind of setting, even though it's in the city close to everything. Some apartments had sunrooms, and some apartments had a screened-in porch, but there were no outside entrances. There is only inside coming and going. They are pet friendly, so you can have pets. The only drawback I saw was that there's no outside entrance from your apartment. It's only two floors, which is great. They've added some new units on the ground floor. They have patios, they have a nice gym, and they have a nice family area where you can have parties with your family if they come. The dining area was really pretty. It didn't look like an institution."

"Southgate nursing home in Metropolis Illinois is one of the friendliest and cleanest facilities I have ever visited. My grandmother is currently a resident there and I go there to visit her every now and then, and when I do it is always a pleasure to see the smiling faces on the nurses there as they greet me when I walk through the doors. Most of the girls even know me by name there, which is unheard of judging by the other places she has been admitted to. I know they probably aren't supposed to do this, but they always ask me if I would like something to drink to help me cool off as I usually go there right after work and I happily always say yes. I absolutely love going there to see my grandmother, and even some of the staff members, as some of them are my friends. Keep up the good work girls!! "

"My mother stayed for six week of rehab for a non weight baring broken ankle. She had a lovely room that was very roomy with a lift chair. The staff was always available and attentive to my mom and her needs."

"Tamms H and S shelter care was a country paradise to stay at. The building itself was in somewhat disrepair, but the setting was nice and very rural. It is a small little town of about 300 people and there are not that many businesses. But, there is a small gas station and barbecue joint if you are looking for food or necessities. The quaintness of the town is what I liked the most. Also the weather is very warm there being in southern Illinois, and I took a liking to that too. The building I stayed in was very old, but it was quite large. The food was alright and you could order pizza or buy your own food whenever you wanted to. The staff were not payed much, but they were very knowledgable. they assisted with doctors appointments and your money for cigarettes and such. You could smoke there as much as you want to. I highly recommend this place for anybody looking for a shelter care out in the country. "

"I toured Misty Meadows Senior Living Center on Devers Road in Metropolis. It's more country-fied, and to me, that tops the other ones. It's nice and has a country atmosphere. When you go in, you think you're going into an old country home. It's clean and has the friendliest people you've ever wanted to meet in your life. They'll take you from one apartment to the other and show you what they've got. The people were just finishing up their meals when we got there, and they were still sitting around talking and visiting. Some of the employees were sitting there talking and visiting with them, too. People work on puzzles and things like that. It has a very friendly atmosphere and a down-home feeling. I would pick this community if I were going to go to one. It was wonderful. I walked in the door, and some of the staff were back in the dining area, which I saw when I went in. They began to wave at me and say hi. The apartment was nice and had little sliding doors with a little patio. The two-bedroom apartment had closets. It's big enough that you could put a little half-size bed in and have another bedroom. You could get into the bathroom with your wheelchair, and I'm a big person, so my wheelchair is also big. I could get that wheelchair through the doors, into the bathroom, in and out of the apartment, and down the halls. The only problem is just the cost."

"I found the 'Legacy Personal Care' facility because I was interested in talking with someone about dementia in the elderly because my mother has dementia. I made an appointment to sit down with one of the staff. She took time from her busy day to listen to my problems and experiences with my mother and give me advice. She also let me see the facility where the members were sitting together in a room that had very nice furnishings. The room was very bright and airy and seemed to be a very inviting and comfortable place for the members to sit and chat and watch TV and do other activities. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the facility compared to other facilities I had ever been in. It was actually like a nice hotel. The lobby and offices were well appointed and even the restroom that was available for the members was decorated with pictures and flowers and candles just as if it were a bathroom in anyone's home. The staff member was extremely empathetic with me and gave me other information that would help me with my mother. She in no way pressured me to bring my mother there as a client/member/patient. A Couple of months later she called me to let me know of a seminar about dementia/Alzheimer's in the elderly and about guidelines for the caregiver. I was impressed again that she would take time to call me about this seminar. The seminar was not a part of their facility nor affiliated with the facility but was something she thought I would be interested in and that would help me. I felt that this facility is staffed with very genuinely caring personnel and if, in the future, I need a place for my mother, I would feel confident they would provide excellent care for my loved one. I would recommend this facility highly. "

"I visited The Neighborhood at Paducah. I saw a room and I saw the front of the building. It seems like it's convenient to get to and it was nice. I don't have any bad things to say. The structure looked nice and the cleanliness was superb. They were friendly. The rooms were adequate. The courtyard was pretty and green."

"My wife is doing all right there. Well, she wants to come home, but I could not take care of her here by myself because she needed more rehab and professional care. I think her needs are being met there. Their cleanliness is fine. They're constantly cleaning their facility. It's the best facility around here. It's a nursing home but there's one section of that facility that's strictly for physical, speech, and occupational therapy. So if you have a specific need, they have a specific area for that so you get focused treatment. The nurses I've had contact with, and the CNAs, and the social workers are friendly. Really nice people they have there. I have no complaints at all. The rehab people are really nice because they know the patients by their first name. Right now, that's where my wife needs to be; to get the help she needs and I'm comfortable that she's there. "

"My aunt and uncle lived in Autumn Ridge Supported Living for several years. It was a very nice place that was brand new when they moved in. They served all their meals right there. They had some residents on Medicaid. They did a few day trips, shopping trips, game nights in their dining hall, groups visiting from various churches in the area, singing and preaching. The carpeting in the halls was nice. It was nicely painted, very upbeat, and very bright. The decor was bright. Most of the units were one-bedrooms, but they also had a two-bedroom unit. They had the schedule of events and meals for the month posted on the bulletin board. My aunt and uncle stayed in their apartment to eat and they kind of discouraged that. They wanted the people out socializing in the dining room, which impressed me. The staff was very caring. The food was kind of bland, which it had to be for their diet. Activities were age appropriate, and they had pretty good participation."

"The staff, for the most part, has always seemed helpful. If any issues ever arose then the facilitator was quick at solving the issue/s. I have had two family members at this facility and have felt like it was always clean. The staff has always seemed to be gracious toward not only my family members, but to other residents as well. Residents are treated to their mental and physical abilities and barriers. Those who are able to walk have free roam of the facility as well as the fenced in garden area in the back. There are covered tables and chairs, flowers, bird feeders, and birdbaths for the residents to enjoy. Those who are confined to a wheelchair can be assisted into this area as well. One family member of mine is bed ridden. She has been in the facility for a few years now and we have never felt that she has been neglected. Bed sores have not been present on her while she has been staying at the facility. Overall, I feel that the facility is a friendly and safe place for their residents. "

"Arbor Place’s staff is dedicated to treat patients with Alzheimer’s, and the nursing staff is excellent. They had special training in dealing with that kind of disability. When you walk down the hall, that’s where the bedrooms are located. It looked like a hotel room, and no TVs are allowed in the bedroom because they want them to interact. They had a living area with couches, chairs, and a TV. They have a family style dining table. It is one long table, and they all eat together. The food is prepared so they do not have cut it. If there’s a particular food that one of the residents doesn’t like, they will try to find a replacement. It’s a lot of one on one specialty. They have their own courtyard to where they are allowed to go in and out. They have a RN on staff and someone else during feeding period. If the family agrees, they will take the residents out to trips. The grounds were very nice and well-maintained, and they have two separate outdoor patios. They have on-staff physical therapists; you don’t have to go to a doctor to do physical therapy. Mom has physical therapy every day, they take them to activities, and other residents also involved. I am really happy with them so far. "

"We toured The Bungalows at Mayfield. Their personnel were very nice. We met one lady who's a resident there, and they care for her well. For a place like that to have just one room, it would be good for somebody who got rid of everything and just had that as their home. I would not eat in their dining room and put that on the lowest approvals. I can't eat on carpet floors. It did not smell good. The facility was new. It looked like it had just gone in a big circle so that somebody with memory problems wouldn't get too awfully lost before somebody could find them and bring them back to their unit, which was good."

"My brother-in-law is now in Mills Manor (Mills Health and Rehab Center). We were only able to see the outside of the facility because of COVID. This is the second time that he has been there. The staff is very caring. The first time they worked with him, he was able to come along pretty quickly. This time, it's not so quickly. Now, they do weekly meetings and phone meetings to talk about him, which I like, because they tell me how he's progressing or digressing, whatever the case is. The staff is just wonderful there. Back then, they managed to get a weight on him, and he could walk. They really worked with him. However, this time, he is not eating and stuff. It's not that the staff is not working with him, it's just that he doesn't want to do things. The reason that we put him in the Mills Health and Rehab was because we thought that with his dementia, he might remember some of the people there or be familiar with the building itself inside. He does not participate in activities because he's only doing physical therapy and speech therapy."
