"Lakes of Paducah Senior Living is a beautiful area. It's got lots of green space. There's a couple of lakes on the property and they have a nice little screened-in porch area for my in-laws as part of their unit. They have a sit-down dining every day for three meals, where someone comes over and takes your order, which is nice. It's a very intimate setting and not real large, and Paducah is a small town, so it's just a very friendly atmosphere. The person that we met with who was in charge of placing people was great. There's a lot of different things that they do for the residents. They have a one-bedroom deluxe that has a little small kitchen space, a nice living room with a screened-in porch that goes right off the living room, and they can watch birds and all kinds of stuff because there's so much green space around. They have a nice walk-in closet, a bathroom with a walk-in shower that has a little bit of a step up, and lots of grab bars which are good for elderly people. It's a very safe environment. They have a few different meal options. If you don't want what's on the lunch menu, they have four or five other options you can get. They can take your order. If you're not feeling the chicken salad that day, they have a bistro burger or a chicken sandwich and just some easy things that are included. You can get a chef salad instead of having the lunch entrees they offer. They have a little winery section, lemonade drinks, an onsite salon where they can get their haircut done, different activities every week, and in some cases, they even have outings where they take them somewhere. They also have an area where they have a pool table, a bunch of card tables, a puzzle room, and a mini library where there are books available that you can read. It might be one of the best places I've ever seen. It's a really beautiful place. Communication has been great too. They're very informative and they know exactly what they're dealing with. It's not cheap, but for the money, it's a good choice for us, and there are no hidden fees."

"My father was in Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. I think they took pretty good care of my father. I was well pleased. It was a good-sized facility. They had two large areas for the people to congregate, and they had staff that really watched over him. My father tried to get out of the facility and they had people on each shift that guarded these doors and made sure that nobody got out and he never got out. He was trying to get out five or six times a day and it never happened. He has dementia and even when he wouldn't sleep at night and he would get up, the nurses would let him sit with them in his wheelchair at the nurse's station, and they'd watch over him. There were some things I wasn't thrilled with, but they were still pretty good. They took good care of Dad. I was there when they took my father to dine at a table, but I didn't eat with him. They would sit him with people that he would be talking to and be chatty with, and they would group them together, which I thought was a good thing. They had bingo, a lot of stuff, and card games, but my father wasn't able to do that. I saw my husband's aunt participating, and there were so many of them that participated with the card games and the bingo. It was a big hit. They seemed to be enjoying themselves."

Fun daily activities for residents. Delicious meals and snacks served in a family set dining area. I Found the perfect place for grandma! I Would recommend Metropolis Nursing and Rehab to anyone for long term or short term care."

"Tamms H and S shelter care was a country paradise to stay at. The building itself was in somewhat disrepair, but the setting was nice and very rural. It is a small little town of about 300 people and there are not that many businesses. But, there is a small gas station and barbecue joint if you are looking for food or necessities. The quaintness of the town is what I liked the most. Also the weather is very warm there being in southern Illinois, and I took a liking to that too. The building I stayed in was very old, but it was quite large. The food was alright and you could order pizza or buy your own food whenever you wanted to. The staff were not payed much, but they were very knowledgable. they assisted with doctors appointments and your money for cigarettes and such. You could smoke there as much as you want to. I highly recommend this place for anybody looking for a shelter care out in the country. "

"I toured Misty Meadows Senior Living Center a couple of years ago. I didn't really see anything that I didn't like about it. I liked the whole thing: the beauty shops, the laundry area, and that they cooked the food and served it to them. I liked the dining room and that you had a choice of different apartment sizes that you wanted to. It was really an awesome place. They had their buffet all set up, and the food looked awesome. They also take you if you need to have a doctor's appointment. You can have a birthday out there, where you can pick what food you wanted or do your hair. They're just right there for you. It's not in a busy area. It's kind of out at the edge of town in a nice wooded-like area where people can sit out and enjoy the outdoors."

"I found the 'Legacy Personal Care' facility because I was interested in talking with someone about dementia in the elderly because my mother has dementia. I made an appointment to sit down with one of the staff. She took time from her busy day to listen to my problems and experiences with my mother and give me advice. She also let me see the facility where the members were sitting together in a room that had very nice furnishings. The room was very bright and airy and seemed to be a very inviting and comfortable place for the members to sit and chat and watch TV and do other activities. I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the facility compared to other facilities I had ever been in. It was actually like a nice hotel. The lobby and offices were well appointed and even the restroom that was available for the members was decorated with pictures and flowers and candles just as if it were a bathroom in anyone's home. The staff member was extremely empathetic with me and gave me other information that would help me with my mother. She in no way pressured me to bring my mother there as a client/member/patient. A Couple of months later she called me to let me know of a seminar about dementia/Alzheimer's in the elderly and about guidelines for the caregiver. I was impressed again that she would take time to call me about this seminar. The seminar was not a part of their facility nor affiliated with the facility but was something she thought I would be interested in and that would help me. I felt that this facility is staffed with very genuinely caring personnel and if, in the future, I need a place for my mother, I would feel confident they would provide excellent care for my loved one. I would recommend this facility highly. "

"It was very nice and very upscale looking. The food looked really good. I talked to the residents, and they seemed happy there. The apartments were nice, clean, and comfortable. Every one of that we looked at were very similar. I knew there were activities. They had a calendar each month, so there were different things going on. "

"I visited a friend at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. It was good, but there were so many people there with so many different needs. The patient to staff ratio was low. It was clean, but it had a little bit of age to it. The staff was friendly; they just had a lot to do. It wasn't one-on-one as much, and it felt more like an institution."

"It's a much newer facility and it is beautiful. There was just one turn off for me with Autumn Ridge. My mother orders her medication online. She gets a three-month supply. It's much less expensive than if she had to go to a drugstore and buy it a month at a time. When they were talking about the medication, they said that all medicine had to be purchased through this local drugstore. That turned me off because she takes a lot of it. However, the staff was very pleasant and the place was very clean. "

"The staff, for the most part, has always seemed helpful. If any issues ever arose then the facilitator was quick at solving the issue/s. I have had two family members at this facility and have felt like it was always clean. The staff has always seemed to be gracious toward not only my family members, but to other residents as well. Residents are treated to their mental and physical abilities and barriers. Those who are able to walk have free roam of the facility as well as the fenced in garden area in the back. There are covered tables and chairs, flowers, bird feeders, and birdbaths for the residents to enjoy. Those who are confined to a wheelchair can be assisted into this area as well. One family member of mine is bed ridden. She has been in the facility for a few years now and we have never felt that she has been neglected. Bed sores have not been present on her while she has been staying at the facility. Overall, I feel that the facility is a friendly and safe place for their residents. "

"Arbor Place’s staff is dedicated to treat patients with Alzheimer’s, and the nursing staff is excellent. They had special training in dealing with that kind of disability. When you walk down the hall, that’s where the bedrooms are located. It looked like a hotel room, and no TVs are allowed in the bedroom because they want them to interact. They had a living area with couches, chairs, and a TV. They have a family style dining table. It is one long table, and they all eat together. The food is prepared so they do not have cut it. If there’s a particular food that one of the residents doesn’t like, they will try to find a replacement. It’s a lot of one on one specialty. They have their own courtyard to where they are allowed to go in and out. They have a RN on staff and someone else during feeding period. If the family agrees, they will take the residents out to trips. The grounds were very nice and well-maintained, and they have two separate outdoor patios. They have on-staff physical therapists; you don’t have to go to a doctor to do physical therapy. Mom has physical therapy every day, they take them to activities, and other residents also involved. I am really happy with them so far. "

"We toured The Bungalows at Mayfield. Their personnel were very nice. We met one lady who's a resident there, and they care for her well. For a place like that to have just one room, it would be good for somebody who got rid of everything and just had that as their home. I would not eat in their dining room and put that on the lowest approvals. I can't eat on carpet floors. It did not smell good. The facility was new. It looked like it had just gone in a big circle so that somebody with memory problems wouldn't get too awfully lost before somebody could find them and bring them back to their unit, which was good."

"My dad is at Mills Health & Rehab Center. I have been pleased with it. I have not had any problems. They have lowered his bed as low as they can get it, where he'll only have about 15 inches or so to fall to hit the floor. He fell out of his bed yesterday and they had fixed a 2 1/2-inch-thick mat on each side and they keep the bars down, so he doesn't crawl out. I think they're doing everything they can to keep him safe and I have been pleased. Everybody that I have talked to has been very helpful. They tell me all they can about dad and what they're doing, they ask for my opinion, and they've been very supportive. The only thing I can't do is visit. They have no visitation so that is the only thing, but most nursing homes are not having visitors, and I can understand why. I have not seen it so I have no idea how it looked like, but he is in a room by himself. My father does not talk since his stroke so he can no longer speak. I can't communicate with him and I have to communicate with his nurses. They're giving him pureed food and thickened liquid. But I was a little disappointed because on the day he came home, Monday, they told the hospital they could do the palliative care and put this package called Clinimix in him. When they were almost ready to put him into the ambulance to take him to the nursing home, the nursing home called and reneged and so the case manager there at the hospital was furious. Anyway, they called back, and they worked it out, but I did not think it was very professional. All I've been in is their closed-in porch area, and it is very nice."
