"I toured Brookstone Estates of Mattoon South, and it was excellent. The staff who gave the tour was also excellent. I liked how the rooms and some of the facilities were set up. Their dining area is restaurant-style, and they have really good activities."

"I like The Glenwood Supportive Living of Mt. Zion. They are very nice buildings, and they're decent apartments. It is a good facility. The staff member was informative. She knew what she was talking about. She was a good person, and she was friendly. It's assisted living and they have a nursing staff on hand, which a place likes that usually needs. That's always good to have on hand. Their dining area is nice. She didn't further take me in there, but I have seen pictures of it."

"I had my wife at Heartland Christian Village for a while. The staff was above average, and there was a high level of conscientious behavior on the part of the administrator and the senior nurses that I had a chance to be exposed with. They had a few private apartments if you didn't require full-time nursing care and wanted to be able to utilize the centralized eating facilities. If you needed to, you could migrate from the apartment into the nursing home at some later date. She had Alzheimer's, and they did not really have the facilities to be able to cope with Alzheimer's patients in the evenings. It did not have the staff or the manpower to cope with them outside of the time shift. However, you could come in on daycare. You just couldn't have somebody there on a full-time evening basis. They seemed to have a wide variety of spaces available -- private rooms, double rooms -- and they have a Medicaid room as high as four to eight people in them, which was a warehousing-type of environment and not very tasteful. From the standpoint of recreational facilities, they had regular games, activities, walks, and painting classes. They had a nice indoor courtyard that you could go and sit in and watch the birds or butterflies. "

"The lady who showed us around Jarman Center was very competent. It was a very nice place. They showed me all the different rooms they had. They had the smaller ones and the little larger ones that looked very nice. The place was clean and cheery looking. They had a lot going on, and they served three meals a day. They're there to help with anything you might need."

"Tanglewood Village is wonderful, pleasant, and bright. We went to visit a room, and each has its own kitchenette but not where my parent would actually cook. They have a place where you go eat, and they serve good food. During the time we were there, one of the ladies there baked something, so they were passing out the dessert she made. It was like a little community inside for elderly people. It is definitely very clean and really nice. "
