I liked The Cottages of Monroe. It's the place that I want to go to if ever an opening comes. I liked the cottages, the people, and the layout. Everyone was friendly and there were activities planned. They have exercise, lunches delivered, wine and cheese, trips, and dominoes. It's more like a community. I didn't want any place that reminded me of nursing homes or skilled nursing. I want to be in a regular community and that's what The Cottages of Monroe were. The lady that gave the tour was very friendly. She took us around and showed us the whole facility. One of the residents even let us look at her home so we would get an idea of what it was like. They were duplexes and the lady we visited had a very lovely front porch with flowers in the front. They had a small patio in the back, too. It was everything I was looking for. They had a community room where once a month they have breakfast and where they have activities. Since it's exclusively independent living, you cook your own food.

The Cottages are spacious and luxurious with 9′ ceilings and crown molding. The main entrance features a no-step entry opening up into the living room. Every room is suitable for "full size" furnishings, so you can be sure your furniture will fit in your new home. Kitchens are fully equipped with a self-cleaning oven/range, frost-free refrigerator/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, and garbage disposal. The kitchens in all our cottages are modern with pass through windows looking into the dining room. A full-size washer and dryer, provided by the Cottages, is in the main hallway. The bedrooms are large and feature spacious closets with hanging rods and shelves. The 1-bedroom, 1 1/2-bath cottages have one large bathroom attached to the bedroom and one half-bathroom attached to the sun room. The larger, 2-bedroom, 2-bath cottages have both a bathtub and a shower. If your home ever needs a repair, we provide 24/7 maintenance. When you visit our neighborhood in person, you will discover that each Cottage also features the following: an alarm system; front and back door dead bolt locks; paneled interior doors; insulated windows; interior and exterior lever-type door handles; smoke detectors and heat sensors; 12′ wide single-car garage with remote; 2-hour fire wall between units for quiet; central/natural gas heating and air conditioning; brick and vinyl exterior; floored attic storage and garage storage closet; pre-wired telephone and television outlets. We visited the Cottages of Monroe. The place was really nice, because they were like actual houses. Its pretty much like independent living, and thats nice. It's what my grandparents are looking for, but the waiting list is over a year long. The houses were a good size, the listing person was really nice and friendly, and she really knew the community members. They have a community house, a community dinner once a month, and a lot of the members use the house to host events, get together, and hang out.
