I visited a friend at Gateway Capitol View. The management seems to be very nice. I've met with them before, and they were really kind, very helpful, and very informative about the property. The maintenance and cleaning staff are also good. Every time I've gone to my friend's apartment, the hallways were always clean and fresh, so you can tell that they're keeping the place up. There is a sitting area, which is also a meeting area, that has always been kept up. Upstairs, on the first landing, they have another sitting area. I noticed when I came in that some of the ladies were sitting in the little landing area, talking to each other. It's a very nice property and so well-kept. It's quiet, and you don't see a lot of people coming in and out. The seniors seem to get along well. I know that they have a computer room, exercise room, and I think they also have a theater. The unit itself is really nice, especially the kitchen area that's full of cabinets. The only thing that I don't agree with is the fact that seniors sometimes need help to get to their bathroom area from their bedroom. To leave your bedroom, you come into the living room area, and go through the kitchen to get to your bathroom. That's the only thing that really doesn't make sense to me. Once we get older, we have a lot of needs, and one of those is to get to the bathroom quickly. The facility itself, pretty much like all senior areas that they build, does not allow a lot of space. The apartments are very tiny because the square footage is really not a lot. The last time I was there, it seemed like a lot of the seniors had cars, but they didn't offer very many handicapped parking spaces. I also feel like there should be assigned parking. There's a nice-sized parking lot, though. They don't have a whole lot of activities, but they do have activities that are being scheduled. I think they might have outings that they schedule through a group where they have a bus come. They also have a bingo night or something like that, so they have different little things going on there. Normally, it would be one of the senior citizens who might plan things like a trip somewhere. As we know, seniors love to go to the casino, so they might plan a trip here or there. I just don't know too much about whether the property itself organizes different events for them. They don't serve food, and there's no place where they serve food, but they have organizations that bring food for low-income people who need it and different other things. They have people come by that serve the community food bank for people in need. They drop off food and things for them, but the facility itself has no kitchen where they cook. This particular property is based on your income, and most people there receive Social Security. It's a government-funded facility, so it's based on the money that you get, and your rent is rated off of that. It's not a bad place to live.
