We went to Park of the Palms, Inc. It was nice, we saw the staff members, they were great, but the rooms were smaller than other places. They had some small group stuff like games. The person who gave us the tour was great, and they had a swimming pool. The food was very good, and the dining room was very good.

I've chosen Park of the Palms. There is warmth about the entire place. It does not look like a retirement place, and it does not look like an assisted living. In fact, I stayed three nights. They paid for one, and the other two I paid for. The residents made me feel welcome. I went into dinner, and I was a bit late on Saturday night. When I got there, all the tables were taken, so I sat by myself at the table, which was fine. Across from me, there were four ladies sitting on one table and one looked at me and smiled, and that was nice. She smiled at me; she wanted me to feel welcome, and it was great. Also, they have all the amenities, plus it goes from assisted living all the way to hospice care. Then there is a church there, and they have services on Sunday. I attended the Sunday church service, and even then, I felt welcomed. The room I stayed in was like a huge luxury hotel room. The unit that I toured was a two-bedroom-two-bath -- it was a duplex -- but it shared laundry with one other unit. Then, I saw a two-bedroom-two-bath with a washer and dryer in the unit, and that was the one in the quadruplexes. The place was immaculate, and I was very impressed. The dining room overlooked Brooklyn Lake. It was just beautiful. There were lots of trees. The whole place is beautiful. There was a library and a swimming pool. You can go on tours wherever you want to go. Plus medical, there are doctors and nearby hospitals. They can come in, or you can call if there is an emergency.

My mom is in Park of the Palms. It is wonderful. She is happy and busy. It is just awesome. Everybody is really friendly and attentive. She has a large bedroom, a large living area, and a small kitchen. They have game nights every Wednesday, a swimming pool, picnic areas, and a church. They also have a bus that takes residents to the grocery store. She says the food is wonderful. The dining room overlooks the lake.

We're pretty happy with Park of the Palms right now. Mom was resistant at first because we moved her out of her home, and she's never been in an environment like that, but she adjusted fairly quickly and she's happy. The facility is a little dated, but the personal attention makes up for it. It is less expensive than a lot of comparable places that we found. It is a small town atmosphere type of a thing. It's like individual little apartments, very clean. The staff is very attentive. I've been there several times during different meals, and there appears to be plenty of food. I know they changed chefs, but Mom appears to be very happy with what she's being fed. Unfortunately, she's not all that mobile to where she could partake in a lot of activities. They have daily things that are group activities, and sometimes field trips as well to get them out and about. They have cards, and they have clubs.

I liked Palms at the Park because it was a smaller community and the location was near Jacksonville which was where my cousin and aunt live. I liked their dining room, which was located in a big lake and overlooked the lake. They had a gym, a fitness room and a library. They had planned activities and they also had a church on the grounds. The staff was tremendously helpful. And I fell in love with it when we drove through the front gate, the church was right at the entrance when you came in and it's old Florida, stuck old buildings with Spanish archaisms and the price was very reasonable. You could either take the meal services or not. If you wanted a meal, all you had to do was call the dining room and make reservations.
