The tour we had of Village at the Crossing was quite nice. The people were helpful and listened to what we needed. They were very receptive to listening and helping us find a place. They did what they could to help us with the process of acquiring the apartment. Their rooms were adequate. They're very small bedrooms, but enough for a full-size bed. I would say that a queen-size bed would fit in the ones that we're looking at. We're looking for two people. If I were one person alone, it would be more than adequate. The main selling feature for me was the washer and dryer in the unit. It's a combination, and I've never used one before, but hopefully it will help me keep on top of what I need to do without having to go out and drive since I have limited mobility. It's hard for me to move around. We chose the side that had an angle to the room. There was no price difference, but the bathroom was larger and the bedroom was smaller. There was no elevator for this side of the building, though, just a walk-up, but I hope that will be adequate in the long run, although I'm kind of concerned about mobility. They also do not provide any meals whatsoever, although there used to be a kitchen there. It's in pristine condition because it's not in use. They do have kitchens in each unit, if you're capable. It's more of an independent living situation. There seems to be an indoor courtyard sort of area, which is nice because it's sort of in the center of the building. I'm hoping that we could spend some time there with our small dog. The place looks quite clean, and there are no smells other than those of people who are cooking. The smells of the cooking get out into the hallways, so if you don't like fish, you're going to be in trouble.

When my loved one first moved into Village at the Crossing the facilities were very nice and they were kept up. The inside has a multimedia room with a library and TV, and an interior garden, but within the last two and a half years they've changed. Some management and other facilities have gone down. Dishwashers and washing machines would be broken for six months plus time and they don't get repaired. They no longer take care of the outside garden areas or the landscaping. When things die, they just let it fall down or the city of San Bruno comes in and cleans it up. They no longer provide the dog poo bags. They rely on the surrounding condo and apartment complexes to take care of it. The management has changed and the facility has become run down. It was a beautiful community in the beginning. There is a computer lab, a gym, and a pool table. There is also a kitchen area, like a professional kitchen, with tables that you can rent out for parties, but only residents can come. No outside family can come and have a party there, so you couldn't invite your daughter or her family to come and have dinner with you there, which is strange because it's a senior resident building. You're trying to encourage family and friends to come and visit them, and same with the senior activities, but no family or friends can participate in any of it, even if it's a Halloween costume party. That kind of made it a little bit somber. Some of the residents have been leaving because they want to have their families come and spend time with them. However, if you wanted to invite your neighbors for dinner, then you could do that. There is one maintenance man who was previously the landscaping gardener. He is now the handyman, and then there is a nighttime security gentleman. They're all very pleasant, but they go through the staff very quickly. They advertise that they have a senior bus, but the bus hasn't been running since the driver quit over a year and a half ago. The senior bus sits out there with flat tires and has not been run for over a year and a half, so if it shows that they offer driving services to appointments or to the grocery store this is not true.
