Franciscan Hospice went to the hospital for my husband and they were excellent. They made sure he had the right care at the hospital. The caregivers were all good. We didn't have anybody who wasn't really up on their job. I was very satisfied.

As far as signing up for hospice and having someone come to my father-in-law's home, I don't think Franciscan Hospice did a good job of explaining things to my father-in-law. They did not properly explain that he would only have comfort medications and that he was going off everything that he needed to stay healthy. They had hospice people come to their house once or twice a week. They provided some equipment for him, e.g., a bed and a wheelchair. However, we were not happy with the fact that my father-in-law was more or less coerced into signing up to be a hospice patient. If he understood what he was getting himself into, he wouldn't have. They need to involve the family much earlier. I don't think they gave him a lot of options.

My mom went into Franciscan Hospice and died a week later. They were very friendly, compassionate, and took very good care of my mom. The rooms were very nice and offered more than what I expected. They had excellent facilities for the family. They had a kitchen where they served soup, cookies, coffee, and tea every day. There were places to sit at tables, chairs, and couches. It was much more than I could have ever expected because I've never been to a hospice house before, and it was just excellent. They were so attentive and everything that I didn't really notice anything that they could have done better. I just felt that it was good all the way around.
