With a mother limited by aphasia (from a stroke) and advancing Alzheimer's disease (at 90) and a father beginning to lose his overall dynamic health (at 89), living in an "independent retirement community" in Williamstown, MA---and my home being in NJ, I could not sleep through the night nor could I continue to work and care for a husband with prostate cancer, if I did not completely rely on and trust the aides who take care of my parents from At Home TLC. From the director, Missy, to the scheduler/office staff to all the aides who spend so many hours doing such a compassionate and good-natured and patient job with my parents, the entire organization is a treasure to all families facing elders in need of help throughout the day and/or night. Another key to the success of this agency is Diane, the RN who, in addition to a full time job at a local nursing home, oversees my parents' health issues and maintains seamless communication with the aides as well as the geriatric doctor she was instrumental in getting my mother to see as her primary. The people who work for At Home TLC are angels and I know from dealing with aides at home health agencies in western NY that they are truly professional and reliable---I don't want to suggest there aren't many like At Home TLC, but unfortunately, this high caliber of service and integrity is not always available to families. As I said, the minute I realized I was NOT thinking about my mother or worrying about my father, I KNEW that TLC was the key to our family's sanity in the midst of serious, debilitating chronic illness. Recently, TLC has introduced us to a social worker also who has offered invaluable strength and counsel to help family members cope with changing landscape in my parents' home. I am indebted to them all.
