When my sister and I found this place, it was an answer to a prayer. Our mother was there for 3years. She passed away 6months from today. There never was a time that my brothers and sister felt she was not being cared for. During the 1st 6 months during her "adjustment time" , she wanted to go back to her home. In the last 2 1/2 years she again wanted to go home but she was referring to Helms Gordon. She made several good friends while there and her roommate hit it off at the very beginning. Moma wanted to take her whenever we went anywhere, even to her great grandchildren's birthday parties and if she couldn't go Moma brought her cake back. Kay G. is awesome and she takes care of her residents. She is demanding on her staff but at the same time she is fair. I am sure I would love to work there. Bill, Jerri, Shirley, and Donald -children of Margie L.

There are only women there, about 28 women. The staff there are great with even the most difficult of residents. Kay the owner is there and will stand up for each of her residents, health care, and well being. The residents are treated as if they are the owners and staff’s own family members. Meals are prepared for the residents 3 times a day, the resident’s clothes are washed everyday. There is a small rec room with games, books and puzzles for the residents. The residents can get their hair washed and cut by a caring, family team of hairdressers, who also care for and love the residents. In the middle of the week doctors or NPs come in and check the residents. The facility also administers the residents medications as many times a day as necessary. My family member was there for several years...always got excellent care.

Helms-Gordon Residential Care Center is very small and only has 32 residents. It's only women, they don't have any men, it's real quiet, and there's absolutely no smell. It's warm in there unlike a lot of nursing homes where it's freezing inside. They have two separate rooms for TV, and they do some exercises. The staff was very nice, and they have good food. My wife has dementia and she couldn't find her room every day, so they put a big sheet of paper on the door with her name on it. They're all very friendly there. I've been there at lunchtime a few times, and everybody seems happy.
