What ongoing training does the staff receive in dementia care?
Staff receives a formal 40 hour specialized training on our SVAYUS program. After the formal training, the staff receive education and training on an ongoing basis and when a need is identified by the supervisor.

Average age is 80 years. Our seniors enjoy the following- Reading, exercising, day camps, fishing, shopping, concerts, theater, movies, sporting events, bible study, indoor games such as Bingo, Billiards, card games, coffee/breakfast club, wine tasting and many more.
What programs or activities does Lantern Of Saybrook offer to enrich residents' well-being?
Fountain of life- JIVE and SVAYUS. Two unique neuro rehabilitative and therapeutic specialized program designed by an Occupational Therapist only offered at the Lantern communities. The objective and the goal of the program is to enable our seniors age gracefully and function at their highest level of independence. The primary objectives of the program are as follows- Brain health, Physical strength, social, emotional and mental well-being. This highly specialized program is offered at no additional cost

The nursing staff will call, e-mail and text (if preferred) about the seniors well-being. The family member will be informed immediately if and when there is change in the seniors mental, social and physical being. The nurse is extremely flexible and will work around the family member's schedule and preference.

Care staff ratio is determined based on seniors level of care and service needs. On a daily basis, care staff resources are assed and allocated. Adequate staff are made available based on the seniors needs on a given day.

The Lantern community is pet friendly. The pet must stay in the seniors living space and it is the responsibility of the senior to care for the pet. The pet can enjoy both indoor and outdoor space as long as the pet is under the direct supervision of the senior.

All staff receive mandatory training once every month. It is a condition for employment. In addition, they require special education and training every quarter.

The Lantern community provides a large safe and a secure spaces for seniors that like to walk and explore. Secure doors, alarm system, cameras and frequent well-being checks are few of the many techniques and strategies the staff use to assist the seniors with their desire to walk and explore various spaces.

Fountain of life program- JIVE and SVAYUS. Svayus is an exclusive function relevant therapeutic care model based on the theories of perception in action, retro genesis, progressive lowered stress threshold, person environment occupation (PEO), basic ability to function (BATF) and neuroplasticity. The objective of Svayus is to enable our seniors to function at their best ability. Svayus activity program is based on seven basic skill sets that are essential to maintain and facilitate over all functions- Social emotional activities, large motor skills, small motor activities, visual activities, reasoning activities, listening and language activities.
Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?
The nurse and the SVAYUS program coordinator in collaboration with the nurse practitioner and physician will asses seniors health and cognitive functions. The assessment is ongoing and will be completed as needed.

SVAYUS- Life full of vigor is a highly specialized personality centric rehabilitative care program. The program uses various treatment techniques through activities and exercises to enable seniors live a functional and dignified life.
