I toured Kendal On Hudson. It's clean. The people were friendly, professional, courteous, and kind. They have swimming and a gym. They have scheduled exercise classes if you want to join. I met a few staff and they're very professional, very kind, and very friendly. I have tried their meal. They have an indoor restaurant, and the food is delicious. It's a beautiful place. They have assisted living, independent living, and nursing homes. The Hudson River is right there and it's beautiful scenery.

We went to Kendal On Hudson. It's lovely, absolutely lovely, and the dwellings and the activities, they're resident-driven activities, in other words, it's not like on a cruise where there's a director who says," Okay, today we're going to do this." The residents make decisions. They come, maybe someone moves in and they are a sculptor. They work in clay and nobody's doing any sculpting. So they say I'd like to continue to work with Clay, and Kendall makes it possible, opens up a space, and says, Let's put a kiln in here. I felt that they were very experienced and friendly and gave us plenty of attention and time and they even have a person who coordinates your move-ins so that when you do go to live there, the unit that you move into is refurbished to your desires. You get to pick the color scheme and the kind of flooring. They typically refurbish the kitchen and put countertops down just like you were moving into a new home. I like that. We met someone who lived there because our friends who live nearby have a friend who lives there with her husband and we met him. It was interesting because his wife, who is our friend's acquaintance there, is a musician. And so she brought to Kendall more music and music groups than they might have had before. The gentleman himself is still going into New York a couple of days a week to work. He's a professor, and he talked about how comfortable and easy that was for him to do so. Those were nice things to learn. The gentleman we were speaking with, they were used to living in New York City and dining out a lot, and he said the food was just fine. They have a program where some of the lunches when you come into the dining room, you get a number, so you sit at a table that's random to make everybody have a few days a week where they meet other people. And they dedicated a couple of tables that always would be random. I kind of felt that that was a cool way to encourage people to get outside their comfort zone a little bit. How much harm can one lunch do? Some of the units had an outdoor entrance, right on the ground level so people could get in, just walking down the road and crossing a little path and going in a patio door, instead of going through the entry and elevators and whatnot. Maintenance and upkeep were exquisite. The only thing I did not like about it was that I felt that the entry for coming from the parking lot, your visitors arriving, and so forth, seemed very medical, institutional. So the desk was like you'd be greeted with when you walked into a hospital. It didn't look like a concierge desk at a hotel. It looked like a sign-in desk at a hospital. And part of that's what people have to do with COVID. They have to have barriers and whatnot, but it was architecturally designed so that there was this big sort of desk, but it was very different from what you'd encounter at an apartment complex. That turned us off. I think the other thing that we've learned about places like Kendall is that their age and their organization in the Quaker principles are very, very sound and well-respected, and they put a lot of effort into the financial stability of the organization. Because that's something you need to think about when you put money down to go live somewhere, you want to make sure it's going to be 10 or 15 years later, it's still going to be working as well as it was when you first went there. You have a lot invested.

Kendal on Hudson is a lovely place to live where the residents and staff are one community. Everyone is on a first-name basis and cares about each other. The food is excellent I'm sure due to having three amazing CIA trained chefs preparing it. The residents run all the activities -- there are 28 different activities committees, including art, music, horticultural, trips, social events. Speaking of music we get world-class musicians like the Manhattan String Quartet. They have a great indoor pool and fitness center while offering many fitness classes. They show movies at night when there are not Speakers. The movie is then replayed on their TV channel the next day. We are right on the Hudson River with gorgeous views of the Palisades. The apartments are beautiful, some with river views and some with garden views. You have a nice kitchen with full-size appliances including a dishwasher and washer/dryer. The administration is first class with many years of experience in senior living. They care about both the residents as well as the staff and are completely approachable. if you are looking for a life plan community, I highly recommend Kendal on Hudson. Come join us!

Kendal on Hudson's staff is organized and part of the community. They also seem to be very pleased with where they are and they provide good care. The place is absolutely gorgeous and it's right on the Hudson River. The lawn in front of the buildings runs right to the river and there's a state park next to it. The state park looks like part of the grounds, so the facility is very attractive. Another attraction is built on the grounds of the hospital, so when you have continuous care, you will move from the residential part to the assisted living, and then skilled nursing care and the hospital is right there. I will be going there. We have eaten several meals there and it was very good.

We visited the independent living level of Kendal On Hudson. It's convenient and the food is very good. The facilities stood out to me, they also have nice rooms, and the kitchen is very fine. I think that the place was run admirably based on the service.

I moved into Kendal Hudson nine and half years ago. I feel very comfortable here. It's a continuing care community, so they have different levels of care. I'm in the independent living. Several years ago, I had surgery. I had to be in the nursing unit, and it was very comfortable because my friends could come to visit. It's been a comfortable place. I have a 1-bedroom apartment with a living room, a balcony, a full kitchen, a bedroom, and a bathroom. The food is very good. For the independent living, the residents plan the activities with whatever it is they're interested in. In the assisted living, they hire activities people to plan activities. But for independent living, it's up to the residents to set up their own association and their own activity planning.

I visited Kendal on the Hudson for my mother. She is going to move in in January. We chose this place because the people seemed engaged, interested, and active, the facility itself was very impressive and comfortable, and the apartments were comfortable. The facility was clean. The apartments were very pretty with a good view. They were relatively spacious. The people who work there were helpful. They seemed concerned and informed. There was an art room for the very advanced level, a good library, and a pool. The food seemed good and comfortable. There were a lot of options. Overall, we were really impressed with this place.

I usually travel now and then and I need a place where my mom can stay short term. I was glad Kendal has this type of service. The facility is not too far from home since it's in New York state. It's more rustic and I think it's good for me to get off the city. The cost is not that expensive compared to here in New York City. They did have respite care and not just long term stay. So that's what I'm looking for, respite care. So when she wants to come home, it would be easy for her to do so. Also, it would be a place for my mom to relax. She has the tendency to be so busy at home. I'm glad I found Kendal.

When looking for a place to have my grandmother stay,I tried to find somewhere with a nice atmosphere and caring staff. Kendal On Hudson Clearwater is by far the best of the nursing homes that I visited. Upon arrival, staff was warm and quick to greet us. After taking an hour long tour of the place,I found out that there was much to offer. For one,the residents are given true care. Workers have strict schedules of when they must clean rooms and serve foods. This organization allows things to run more efficiently and helps to make sure that the residents are always attended to. The staff is very nice and genuinely sincere. Taking care of the elderly doesn't seem like a job to them and it shows.Another plus is the fact that the nursing home is situated in a very safe neighborhood. The scenery of the nursing home is beautiful and peaceful .I feel good knowing that one of my closest relatives will be here

Kendal on Hudson is a relatively new facility (about 6 years old) and is still "coming of age". At the outset, such a large preponderance of the residents were fully independent that the focus was more on independent living and less on providing care to those no longer capable of living fully on their own. As the population has aged, the facility has become more aware of, and focused on, the needs of semi-independent and dependent residents. As a result, Kendal on Hudson, while still developing services for those in need, is maturing into an outstanding community that will take residents from fully independent living to full-time nursing care. It is located adjascent to the Hudson River (no direct access), Phelps Memorial Hospital and a lovely state park; and within easy access to travel and shopping facilities. The food service is good and continually tries to adapt to the preferences and needs of the community. The apartments are roomy and very nicely put together. There are many, many resident-organized activities, including regular educational programs and faith groups; and a highly-qualified, caring staff.

About Kendal On Hudson in Sleepy Hollow, New York
The concept of Kendal on Hudson emerged when two separate organizations - both with a vision of developing a continuing care retirement community in Westchester County, NY - discovered their common ground and worked together to accomplish that goal. In the mid-nineties, The Study Group for Retirement Alternatives, a committee of the Purchase Quarter of The New York Yearly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), asked The Kendal Corporation to work with them to explore developing a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) in northern Westchester County or areas north. The Phelps Memorial Hospital Center board and staff leadership had been exploring the possibility of developing senior housing to be located on their river-front property in Sleepy Hollow, NY, for several years. When the two organizations were brought together in 1994, they began to work toward the creation of their common goal.
