Garden Gate is a beautiful and well-maintained facility with independent living one and two-bedroom apartments that allow retired and/or seniors to live in their own homes (apartments) with a month-to-month rent requirement. The apartments have full kitchens with appliances, roomy dining and living room, nice sized bedrooms with large bathrooms. Each apartment either has a nice patio or a deck overlooking the wooded area around the Lake of the Ozarks. The facility also provides a daily continental breakfast and dinner and supper as part of the rent. The staff are wonderful, caring individuals who clean each apartment once a week, cook meals, and provide activities and crafts. Each staff member is also trained in CPR and First Aid and are available at a moment's notice if someone pushes their facility provided "emergency alert" button. This is an independent living facility with no medical or assisted living services; however, the owner and her staff are some of the most nurturing, attentive, helpful and comforting people to be found on this earth. If someone does not show up for dinner or supper, they are going to the apartments to check on individuals. They laugh and play games and show movies, etc. with folks. When someone is ill, they immediately notify the contact/family members and are there monitoring until said contact arrives on the scene. They assure emergency services are called immediately if necessary. As in the case of my mother, they also cooperate with Hospice staff and work closely with family. My mother lives in her one-bedroom apartment there and has developed new friendships and community contacts. When she has become physically ill, the staff has always called me (her daughter) and awaits and monitors mom until I arrive. As I said before, the facility is beautiful and spacious and full of light and the grounds are beautifully landscaped. There are laundry facilities on each level (two-level building), a beauty shop, an exercise room, a huge entry way with a large living room used by all, a library and puzzle room, and a large kitchen and dining room with an attached outside patio for outside gatherings. Each apartment has their own private mailbox and receive a weekly menu of each upcoming meal and activities are posted on a huge whiteboard. I am a registered nurse and appreciate the caring attitudes and non-medical care provided to my mother. I recommend this facility to anyone and will probably seriously consider moving there myself, with my husband, as years begin to pass by.

My experience at the facility was very amazing. The facility has many features which I feel benefit the elderly such as a gym, hair salon, and more apartment style living. Each room is one bedroom with a living/kitchen combination so if the person decides to cook they have the option to. If they do not they have the option to go eat as a group with the other people living there. My grandma goes and gets her haircut weekly in the hair salon and uses it as a means to communicate with others and socialize, this opportunity may be used to set up card games and other activity for later on which she would not have if she was living at home by herself. What I enjoy the most is that it is a very clean facility and safe for her to be in. I have seen nursing homes and assisted living at its worst and it can be downright depressing with the filth people can be forced to live in. Everything is cleaned routinely and gives the elderly their freedom to feel like they are their own person. I would recommend garden gate to any family who wants to keep a loved one under close watch, but let them flourish among others and live their own life.
