"My father-in-law stayed at the rehabilitation facility of Memorial Care Center in Belleville. They only had one or two actual full-time residents still there. Everybody else was in a temporary rehabilitation situation. They are not equipped for a cognitively declining person. They just don't have staff, and they don't understand how to handle them. There were a few staff members who did really great with him, but most of them did not. They also have no activities at all for anybody who's in a cognitive decline. If they are in a double room, there's no room at all for anything. They're tiny, and my father-in-law was in a double room briefly. The food also lacked flavor. It lacked even visually, looking at it. A lot of times, my father-in-law didn't even wanna eat it, and he was still eating quite well then, so it wasn't just a situation where he had a cognitive decline and just wasn't eating. This was a situation where it just didn't taste good. They need to work on their staff, especially training for cognitive decline, if they're going to take those types of rehabilitation patients in. They also have to have more involvement of some sort because I never witnessed an activity there, and we were there every day, all day and night. It was crazy, to be honest."

"I toured Valley Home. It seems like they were busy communicating with people, and people were willing to help you. The staff was very helpful. We didn't try the food, but we saw their menus that they write up for every day and every meal. The rooms are small. It's an older facility, but they have nice common rooms and places where people can get out of their rooms for. They have gatherings every day, including social and various activities. The community was caring, smaller, and felt comfortable."

"My grandfather was in the Alzheimers unit. Staff were always cheerful and the common area is expansive. They have bird cages, which my grandfather enjoyed a lot. I heard good things about the food though I never tried it myself. My grandfather's room was a small, single-bedroom that was always tidy and they allowed him to have his piano. He was encouraged to play it rather frequently too. Visiting was made fairly simple, they had instructions on how to get in and out of the unit posted that were obvious to visitors but not obvious to the residents. My dad said that the plan of care meetings went well and that people were thorough. Our whole family felt good about the unit when we learned that one of the staff member's mother was living there too--we figured no one would know what that place was like better than the staff, so it must be good if they had their own family living there. My grandfather did pass away there and I was grateful that they had kept us up to date on his status so that I was able to see him again right before he went. All and all my experience with them has been very positive. "
