"I went to see Inspired Living at Kenner, and I was impressed with their memory care facility. I thought that they were going above and beyond. It was wonderful. They had no fluorescent lighting, so it wasn't institutional-looking. They had nice amber lights, and it smelled clean. The dining room was full of everyone who was living there. It was kind of at the end of breakfast when I came in. I've gone to see facilities somewhere else, and their dining areas are empty. That tells you that if nobody is there, then the facility is not promoting community. They're not promoting people to get out of their rooms and socialize. We also came across a lady who came up to me and asked if I had found my daughter, and the lady who was giving the tour said we found her and we're all good. That was an example to me of how they react. I just thought it was wonderful that even though she was doing a tour, she stopped and made sure that this lady was okay. She didn't correct her and say I was doing a tour and not looking for my daughter because they say that doesn't help the situation. If you correct them constantly, then it just makes them more confused. She said that there is always a cook. I've been to places where they have three meals, and they're at certain times of the day, so if the residents don't eat, then they don't get anything. I've also seen places where the amount of food that they give is just pitiful. I don't see how somebody can survive on that little bit of food. It was kind of like a plate at a hospital. In this facility, she said that there's always someone in the kitchen. If they want a hamburger in the middle of the night, they can have a hamburger in the middle of the night, and I thought that was great. The staff seemed helpful and happy to be working there. They didn't seem disgruntled or aggravated. They had a couple of outdoor spaces, and they were very nice. The facility was on a chunk of land, so there were areas for the residents to walk out into green grass. They had trees, and they had a moat, but it was on the backside of a wrought iron fence, so you could see the water, but you wouldn't be able to fall into it. Seeing water and all that is very soothing, so that was another plus for me. You could go and sit over by the water if you wanted. They also had a screened-in area, which is great, because in the evening, when the mosquitoes get bad, you can still go sit outside."
